Been here a couple times, and liked it each one… it’s pretty tiny inside, however I’ve never really felt the crush I do at other bigger bars… it’s certainly a divey hole in the wall from the outside but upon entering it has that feel of a good locals hangout… there’s a patio out back which is small but nice, especially for the vapers and smokers… Prices are really good and the service has always been spot on… I’ll come back

The Rose and Crown is a 5 minute walk from my apartment, with the positive reviews I have read on Unilocal it was just a matter of time before I stopped by for a cold one. I sat at the bar and waited for 10 minutes before I even seen the barkeep. A big turn off was that she put her leg up on what looked like a counter behind the bar and and tied her boot. Not cool. $ 2.50 for a domestic beer is not too bad. The patio is really nice, I always dig green space in the middle of the city. I came back to the bar from the patio to order another beer, the same bartender. apparently thought that she did not have enough makeup on, and was preoccupied doing her makeup behind the bar. I waited for about 3 minutes and decided to leave. Perhaps my expectations of service is a bit high. I will go back in a couple of weeks to see if the Barkeep was having an off day or something. I am rating the Rose 2 stars because of the patio and vibe. The service was substandard even for a Dive Bar.

Rose & Crown is a pub I randomly wind up at every once in a while. Yes, the patio out back is among the best in the city. Yes, the bartenders are über friendly and hospitable. Yes it’s kind of a $hithole, but in a good way. Come here for stiff pours and cheap beer($ 2 cans of Busch all day, every day). If you’re extra brave, attempt to find the restroom in the basement. It’s quite the adventure, especially when you start to realize you’re in the nether regions of an old mortuary. Creepy! Whether you’re a dad who simply can’t bear one more second at the nearby children’s museum, or a couple of party-seeking college students, you’ll feel right at home at the Rose & Crown. Not sure when I’ll be back, but I I know it’ll happen eventually.

Was not impressed with my service tonight. When I walked in, I was the only female inside and wasn’t spoken to or acknowledged by the bartender until I got right up next to the bar and leaned in so he had to see me. It still took him a while to get to me. Over pour like crazy as well… which can’t be making anyone money when you’re filling my tall glass ¾ of the way with Hendricks before adding tonic. Also, when I went to close out my tab, the bartender took no notice to me to close me out until my significant other asked for my own bill. He got to it then, but in no way was he positive or apologetic towards me… a good taste was definitely not left in my mouth.

Rose and crown has always been one of my favorite bars. I know if i leave there then i am going to hurt un the morning. The staff is friendly and drinks are fairly strong for the right price. My go to spot during CWS. I can watch games and not feel like a sports bar

Ahh the Rose! Easily one of my favorite bars in the entire country, possibly the world :) I went to school at Creighton so the Rose was walkable and much more fun than closer bars like the Jay. The door is barred and usually locked because of the neighborhood, and you might have to ring the buzzer to get in, but don’t let that deter you! They have a great jukebox, dart board, a few couches, and a funky fish mural painted on the wall for some reason. The drinks are strong, cheap, and delicious and if you ask the bar tenders to surprise you, you will end up with a magical beverage. Unlike some dive bars, they won’t give you a funny look if you order something«exotic» so have fun with it! I’m not sure if Ross still works here, but he was the BEST(if you meet him, ask him to make you his version of a White Russian and kick back The Dude style). And of course, the morning after, you should drop by for one of their kickass Bloody Mary’s which my boyfriend swears are the best… EVER. The jewel of this place(as most of the other Unilocalers have mentioned) is the patio! It has trees growing out of the middle of the floor and plenty of tables and chairs to hang out in. Some nights during the warmer months they have live music out there which is fun because you feel like you are getting a private show since its such an intimate space. It is great during the summer and spring, but I was an all season patron; you can often find groups of smokers outside during the winter months, myself sometimes included(WHOCARES that the snow might be up to your knees out there, as long as I can take my drink!) They have a few of those gas heaters outside but I don’t think they have ever been turned on during the 4 years I was a regular. The crowd is usually a mix of college students and younger people on «going out nights»(THURS-SAT night) with a handful of regulars the rest of the time. People there are very chill and I have only seen a fight break out once. The only con would be the scary downstairs bathroom(which is a fun adventure if you are appropriately buzzed), but the upstairs one is actually pretty clean for a dive. Also, there is NOT a pool table. Overall a classy establishment :) Can’t wait to go back!

When it was suggested that my friends and I go out for drinks at the Rose & Crown many years ago something worried me. I’m not sure why. Maybe because I never heard of it or I couldn’t picture what would be located on 20th and St. Mary’s except scary things! However, I sucked it up, made my way down and within minutes of ordering my drink and finding my way to the patio my emotions went from skeptical to never wanting to leave. EVER. Too bad my bank account and my liver wont allow that to happen… Honestly, I do frequent the R&C more in the warmer months because I do love their patio. It’s perfect for day or night drinking or… if you’re a trooper BOTH! The drinks are reasonably priced and if you have a suggestion for something new for them to stock I have found Matt the owner is open to suggestion! Though you can occasionally find me there during the cold months, I mostly stay away because it tends to get crowded and a little loud. I know, I know. Call me lame, but even in the warmer months the place has a tendency to turn up the stereo a little too loud and my little ears just can’t take it! It’s probably the R&C’s biggest downfall. They ruin the wonderful ambiance of the patio by allowing the stereo to play so loud you’re forced to scream above it. Regardless of the noise, the bartenders are super friendly and you have my word the neighborhood isn’t as scary as it may seem.(Don’t mind the metal bars on the door, they’re only for decoration)

The first time I visited Rose & Crown was in part because of Ryan T’s review. In particular his description of the restroom. A buddy and I were visiting from Kansas City just for the purpose of finding interesting bars and that description sealed the deal for us that Rose & Crown would be on our list. In a touch of irony, both of us forgot to use the restroom while we were there. So I had no choice but to return to Omaha a couple of months later just so I could urinate at the Rose & Crown and see what Ryan was talking about. :) Ryan, I agree! Anyway, I’ve been to about 25 or so bars in Omaha and Rose and Crown is #2 on my list of my favorites. The bartenders are cool and quirky and the patrons friendly. While it was dead on my first visit(a Friday night), it was packed on my second visit(also a Friday night and about the exact same time). My main kudos for Rose & Crown are for its patio. I’ve been to hundreds of bars throughout the midwest and It’s one of the top patios I’ve seen.

I only go to Rose and Crown in the warm months of the year for the reason that Ryan already mentioned. No, not the silence of the lambs bathrooms, but the patio! It really takes you somewhere else, where trees have faces and could at any time tear the deck apart if they were so inclined to get up and walk around…(So, the trees grow up through the patio, in case anyone didn’t get that). Bartenders are always up for a good time and are more than happy to share their opinions or just a laugh with the patrons. Obviously this place isn’t for everyone but that’s what I like about it the most.

The main attraction of the Rose & Crown, aside from the creative cocktails that the bartenders have a tendency to concoct for patrons, is the fact that it’s directly across the street from the Omaha Children’s Museum. So while your little Timmy is across the street learning about what makes a hot air balloon fly, you can do some flying of your own. One thing I will mention is that the bathroom set-up here has the feel of Buffalo Bill’s basement from Silence of the Lambs. Watch out for the hole and guys with lotion and little white dogs.
