This place is really special. It’s packed with watches, clocks, jewelry, family photos, and who-knows-what-else. It’s clearly been the same way for the last 70 years it’s been there. The shop owner, Mr. Takechi, is extremely kind and meticulous. I brought in my watch and we found it to have a manufacturer defect, and he offered to sit on the phone with the manufacturer for me. I wish it hadn’t taken me years to find this place.

I was in Omaha for the summer when the battery of my Seiko watch with a perpetual calendar died. I know that these watches can be difficult to fix, but I took it to Takechi’s hoping the owner would be able to do so. He gave it a shot, but he wasn’t able to get it working and told me that he would have to send it in to Seiko. This wasn’t particularly shocking given that I had to send a similar watches with a dead battery to Seiko in the past. At that point, he told me that if my watch was less than three years old, it would be under warranty. Although my watch was less than three years old, I told him that I didn’t have the paperwork for it, which was at my home in Colorado. He told me not to worry about that and that he knew someone at Seiko who would be able get me a discount anyway. It sounded a bit too good to be true, so I asked how much it would cost if it wasn’t discounted. He estimated that it would be $ 50-$ 75. I told him that if it was over $ 100, I would want to hold off, but he was confident that it wouldn’t be that expensive. That seemed about right to me given my past experience, so I had him send it off. When I went to pick up my watch, he wanted to charge me $ 135. I was naturally taken aback. I told him that he had estimated the cost much lower. At that point, he told me that not only did they not consider my watch under warranty but also that they had needed to do additional work that he hadn’t anticipated. I was naturally pretty disappointed with this outcome. If he wasn’t able to give me a discount, he shouldn’t have suggested that he could get me one. I would have happily waited until I returned home before sending my watch in so that I could have gotten the repairs covered by the warranty. Moreover, I expected him to have a better sense for how expensive the repairs would be given that he is an authorized Seiko dealer. Although he only charged me $ 120, that was still significantly higher than he estimated. I wish he hadn’t misled me about how much the repair would cost, and I’m particularly upset that he suggested that he could get me a discount when he couldn’t.

My watch second hand was loose, which in turn was not keeping the time correctly. I shopped around to a few places, and all said they would need to send in the watch to complete the repairs. I found Takechi’s on a whim while searching online and decided to try it out. Immediately was greeted by the owner Steve who couldn’t have been nicer. He told me he would not finish any of the repairs until an estimate could be made. I called 5 days later(was out of town) and Steve said he had the watch completed. I was only charged $ 19 for a procedure I know would have probably been double had I taken it somewhere else. Steve informed me what was wrong and how intricate of a process it was to go into and thru the back of the watch. Also, some other things needed fixed as he said the alignment of internal components was off. I will definitely be back here if anything else needs fixed with my watches!

I needed a new battery for my 10 year old watch and the waitress at breakfast swore by this place so I walked in. The owner immediately greeted me with a handshake and listened to my problem. While he was replacing the battery I mentioned that the date function of my watch was lagging a day or so. He fixed that with a smile too and I was out the door for less than $ 10 and 10 minutes. The other cutomers in the shop were greeted by name and appeared to be repeat customers. If I lived here I would bring all of my jewlery biz here.
