Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Orlando

The draw here is, of course, the price. I received a lovely three course meal for only $ 10. Seriously, you could easily spend that much at Chipotle for a burrito.
In addition to the meal, the ambiance is really quite nice with an open kitchen. Because this is a teaching restaurant, it seems my presence here was greatly appreciated, which can sometimes be hard to find in a traditional restaurant.
I ordered a fava bean basil soup to start with. There were no vegetarian entrees, so the chef came to my table and asked if I would mind trying an experimental tofu dish.
I’m not quite sure what it consisted of, but a cake of tofu was served in a bowl of lemony, buttery, sauce along with pearl potatoes and mushrooms.
It was not the best tofu I have ever had, but not the worst either. I was just happy they were willing to work with me at all.. .and let’s face it, tofu requires a lot of practice.. .it’s not something you get right or even decent the first few tries.. .trust me, I know!!!
The best was definitely saved for last. Desert. Perfect apple pie, topped with vanilla bean ice cream.
Hmmmmm.
AND a lovely surprise at the bottom.. .a thinly sliced pear which added much flavor and excitement. I love surprises in my dishes, and this one was genius!
Visit open table to make a reservation.. .I’ll back, if only for the pie!

Update 5÷31÷2013:
I see the restaurant has re-​opened and no longer offers the incredible bargain prix fixe menus. The prices are still on the low side for a high-​end restaurant.
I haven’t tried it recently, so I have no reason to lower my rating.

Technique is, by far, the best restaurant bargain in Orlando.
It is operated by the students who are attending the Culinary Arts College. I suspect it’s popularity is soaring, since reservations can’t be had for another 5 weeks. Reservations are handled via opentable. com.
The hostess mentioned that the class was only one week from graduation, so we should expect good food and service. The restaurant is spacious, with an open kitchen and plenty of room between tables. There were families with children, all well-​behaved. All in all, quite quiet. No Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen dropping F-​bombs. Which was nice.
We opted for 5 courses for $ 15. Other than my French onion soup, all courses were smallish. I am a big eater, and was quite satisfied.
Let’s see, I had the the onion soup (very good), lobster salad (very good, but with only 3 almond-​size slices from the claw), a Caesar salad (very good, including the single large anchovy), a fish entrée (very good), and poached pears (very, very good.) All courses were presented well.
My brother had the filet mignon, cooked perfectly medium, and he raved about the meat quality. His pumpkin crème brûlée was good as well.
We were feeling rich, so we ordered coffee afterwards. Cost a buck. :) Very good.
Service was good. The server requested that we order all courses at the beginning of the meal, which was fine with me, since I had browsed the menu online and knew what I wanted. Otherwise, flustering may well have occurred, so be forewarned.
Beer and wine are available at reasonable prices.

It’s a restaurant run by students, and is part of the required curriculum for a degree.
FIVE COURSES FOR 15.00 BUCKS! OR THREE COURSES FOR 10.00 BUCKS!
THE WINE LIST (while not extensive but some good selections) IS PRICED IN THE SAME MANNER.
It was a fun time and we got to taste the work of future chefs.
