Specialties
Our Traditional Olive Grove produces premium, nutrient rich organic and kosher olive oils. We also provide tours and tastings — please call to arrange.
When one adopts a tree, in the fall during harvest season, one may hand pick their own olives.
Harvesting at the beginning, mid and later maturation periods of the olive allows us to offer robust (top 2.5% regarding phenolics worldwide), medium, and mild intensities plus two citrus (lemon and blood orange) olive oils for a variety of food pairings.
History
Established in 2004.
Following extensive California olive production research, a group of professors from UC Berkeley established in 1913 the Berkeley Olive Grove at the base of Table Mountain (an ancient volcanic formation). The variety chosen was California’s heirloom Mission olive. Early newspaper articles quoted the Berkeley Olive Association’s reference to this grove as their «thousand year project».
The professors — spending much family time at the grove in summers and during fall harvest — did very well. Eventually 400 of the 500 acre estate went to one family.
Since 2004, the Grove has been carefully renovated for its return to the «former glory» and sustainable environmental balance.
Each year Berkeley Olive Grove 1913 extra virgin olive oils have achieved highest awards in premium international competitions. Also, scientific journal articles have indicated the unique and extraordinary health benefits.
