Only in Johnson county would they charge for water, I guess the concrete cowboys don’t like tap water. Owner is a douche, pretty apparent with the grey dreadlocks

My first time there was last night. I went to see Travis Marvin sing. It was small but wasnt busy prolly bcuz it was a sunday. Drinks were reasonably priced, well normal for OPKS. It made a good impression on me, I’ll be back.

Good country bar, typical laid back country crowd, which I enjoy. I would definitely make this a regular place if I lived in Overland Park. There is a nice big dance floor, plenty of places to sit, and room to move around.

Attended a Saturday afternoon 4PM to 6PM Bön Ton Soul According Band concert. We have been attending these concerts for the past 7 or 8 months paying a $ 10 cover charge and enjoying their comeback. We get there early so we can get a booth versus a high top table or standing. Arrived early this Saturday and was informed they was now a $ 50.00 fee to sit in the booth. This is crazy business decision for a Saturday afternoon concert already charging a $ 10 cover and mostly a Senior crowd. Very nice venue for this afternoon get together but this recent charge for a booth is a way bigger turnoff versus revenue generator if any. Hopefully management will agree.

Do not order a drink at last call because they will force you out of the bar before completion. The waitresses and bartenders were nice enough, but the bouncers were among the least reasonable people I have ever encountered. Ask that your friend finish their drink, and you will end up with broken glasses and a missing baseball hat(criminal charges pending). It is rare that I talk badly about an establishment, but I will certainly never return to Kanza Hall.

Only went because of a concert, but I will never be back. When we asked about specials, the bartender sarcastically replied«Everything’s special.» A simple we don’t have any would have sufficed. We settled on basic vodka and mixer drinks. When I specified that I want mine with lemon the bartender again had another sarcastic comment. Bartender also didn’t know(or wouldn’t disclose) drink prices prior to ordering. He also said they were out of a specific mixer and not even five minutes went by before a different bartender was using it on a different drink. Due to poor service and a sarcastic bartender I will never be back.

The drinks are very expensive, and it’s way too crowded. But that speaks to the atmosphere. I actually met my fiancé at this place(she remembers it anyway). But a honky tonk ain’t a honky tonk without the dancin’, and Kanza has that in spades.

** First time visiting Kanza Hall and I know I will be back. I so want to learn the moves! The bar as a whole is very well laid out, clean and inviting. The only part about the layout that I didn’t much care for is the rail all the way around the dance floor, which you also can’t take drinks onto. I’m not one to leave my drink unattended or in front of someone I don’t know on the rail. As a bar fly for the night, I really enjoyed watching those that were just there to have fun and also those that were there to «pick someone up.» Those that know all the dances and are just there to have fun are the most entertaining. Man, they know their stuff! Kanza Hall is also attached to several other bars with different themes; Fuel, Millennium? and one other. Kanza was the«hot» place the night I went but we would stroll over to a different one to get our drinks. ** Since this was my first time, I will come back and edit the review with more details later… but overall, I would highly recommend this conglomerate of bars. Pretty cool idea, I must say.

Oh, Kanza Hall… How many nights have I spent there? When I lived in OP, this was the closest and most fun bar. The bartenders are fun! Especially Scuba Steve! There’s another one who also does really fun tricks, like the human torch-thing(dude, I don’t know what it’s called) and different ways to open a beer bottle. Usually I’m against exploiting humans, but… I exploited him. haha. I asked him to show my friends and I so many tricks, I’m sure he was getting irritated with us, but he did it with a smile on his face! It was very fun and I could have watched him kick bottle tops off all night, but there was dancing and fun to be had by all! There’s a huge dance floor and many booths and tables around. Just don’t take any drinks on the dance floor! That is a huge NO-NO! The crowd is definitely a mixture of people, I never know who I’ll see from cowboys(fake ones, of course), REAL farm boys(dirty boots, baseball cap), older people, young people, different races and genders, bachelorette parties, etc… I even met a dude from the Real World there! Can’t remember his name, but my friends knew who he was(or else I wouldn’t have known), … he had a huge head… physically and characteristically. Get there early on certain nights and you can get free line dancing lessons and you’ll be able to pull out those moves later on in the night when they play the song! They usually have a great DJ(he’s from one of the country radio stations) and some Wednesdays they have concerts(of course, you have to buy your ticket). The only negative thing I have to say about it is that you aren’t allowed drinks on the dance floor… how are people supposed to know I’m drunk! I can’t be seen dancing while sober!!! And there are a few creepy dudes(at any bar) there who take advantage of the dance floor set up, which has a railing all the way around it… kind of like a corral… Be sure to watch your drinks and be safe. And watch the railings, you can tell which guys can be creeps, usually just staring in to the dancing queens, deciding which will be his next target. :P

Hottest spot in town on Friday and Saturday nights. Great patio, talented bartenders(7 along the long bar so take your pick), and awesome people watching and dancing. Connected to 3 other concepts by patio so something for EVERYONE! Just wish Johnson county went out during the week so Wednesday and Thursday were busier.

This new country bar is next to(and owned by) Fuel on 119th and Metcalf. Has nice spacious booths for bigger groups, a large bar and seating around the HUGE dance floor. When we were in there the music was loud but not too loud. Plenty of slow and line dancing going on.(Is there anything more Caucasian than the country line dance?) The dance floor is plenty large for many people to fit on with seating all around the bar so you don’t even have to go far to get your dance on. The drinks were tasty. The mixed drinks had plenty of alcohol and were priced about right. Wednesday is ladies night with $ 1 drinks and no covers for the ladies. Guys, we pay $ 5 to get in. Normal drink prices weren’t cheap but we not outrageous either. We like a solid country bar and this is far better than PBR.
