Fresh & Easy

A healthy grocery store that is open ²⁴⁄₇ next to my house?! Yes please!!! The store is organized and clean. The employees are always friendly and ready to assist you! The only downside about it for me is that it doesn’t have much choice on salad dressing. I shop here like almost everyday for my basic groceries over the big supermarket because it’s fast and easy! :)

I first stopped in here on the recommendation of a friend — she said they had quinoa on sale. By the time I stopped in I guess the sale was over because it seemed pretty expensive to me, but that’s kind of this store. It’s a little on the pricey side but you can find some specialty items and healthier food options along with your standard favorite brands of stuff too. This store is clean and well stocked, with wide, easy to navigate isles. The employees were working hard and one made eye contact with me and smiled, asking if he could help me find anything.
I like their selections on breads and pastries as well as their quick and health-​conscious grab-​and-​go lunch options right at the front of the store. They had some fresh flowers here but the roses looked a little sad around the edges.
Overall a good store in a part of town that doesn’t have a lot of options for health foods or specialty groceries.

New management is raising prices, and doing away with coupons and sales. Worse of all they decimated their wine selection. Boo

I like the things fresh and easy has, this location in particular is not much different from other fresh and easy stores. They have all the essentials, but i went in for a juice. i went in without being greeted by a team member, but then again fresh and easy is not known for its customer service, but for its awesome prices =D.

I do not appreciate being made to feel like a criminal and/​or child when I am trying to purchase alcohol! This store requires that all alcohol purchases be rung up completely separately from your other groceries, (as in two separate transactions) and they require the check out attendant to ring up the alcohol themselves.
This means you have to wait on an attendant before you can even start your check out, which isn’t easy because they are almost always busy or not paying attention and have to be tracked down. Then, they have to ring you up in front of everyone else, causing a scene while other customers are waiting for assistance. Not only that, but most of the attendants I have dealt with seem to have some sort of prejudice against people who buy alcohol and they are very condescending. Yes, I am buying 6 bottles of wine. That’s because I get a 10% discount on 6 bottles, not because I am some kind of a drunk living in a van down by the river!
My husband and I tried going through two separate registers to save time, and the attendant ran after me and made a scene about carding me just because I had been with him! We are 40 years old for crying out loud! We’re not a couple of juvenile delinquents trying to stock up on cheap wine down at the local grocery store!
I don’t mind having my ID checked when I go buy wine, but this is ridiculous. They will tell you it’s part of some new state laws and they’ll be sure to get a dig in on Jerry Brown, but no other store I go into (even stores with self check out) make me jump through so many hoops for a $ 4 bottle of wine. Oh, and if anyone in your entire party is underage, say a younger relative, they won’t sell alcohol to you at all!
This isn’t even the worst experience I’ve had at this store. I had purchased some feta cheese, and when I brought it home I realized that it had gone bad, as in moldy, smelly bad. I took it back to the store for an exchange. The manager took my bad cheese and told me to just go get another and find her before I left the store. By the time I went back to the cheese aisle, one of the attendants were already PUTTING THE BAD CHEESE BACK ON THE SHELF! I had to tell him not to put it back because it was bad. Do they always put returned items back on the shelf to sell again? They didn’t even wait until I left the store!
I gave this place a LOT of chances, but lately more often than not, I am just reminded of why I hate shopping there.

My name is Katherine Gabasan, & I was shopping in the Oxnard Fresh & Easy on Channel Islands and Rose, when an employee had asked me to leave. I did not understand why this had happened, because I had never done anything bad to this store before. I am actually a frequent shopper, because this store is the closest to my home. After walking in, and maybe stepping a few feet, an employee named James Mesa, started to harass my girlfriend and I, and told us to leave. He had told us, that we were no longer welcome at any Fresh & Easy from today on. This does not make sense to me, we constantly shop there, and never had any problems before.
He is the only employee at this store that is extremely rude.
If you can avoid him, avoid him. He makes shopping at Fresh & Easy not worth it.

I really don’t care for the store. It seems pretty dark, the prices are outrageous the staff is really not friendly.

This place sucks. Too many bad experiences there.
First, while the place bills itself as «Fresh» they often let the produce sit on the shelves to the point where its going bad. For overpriced produce, this is unacceptable.
More alarmingly, Fresh and Easy recently issued recalls on both their peanut butter and their hummus offerings. The PB recall was due to the recent salmonela scare. However, when I inquired about their hummus, their shelf-​stocker had no answers except that I «shouldn’t eat» the hummus I had bought a few days prior. I wouldn’t have even found out that there was a recall if I hadn’t asked the shelf-​stoker why the hummus was missing. Nowhere around the store did F&E publicize that there 1) their products might be unsafe and 2) that you should bring it back for a refund. When I returned to get a refund on my (potentially hazardous) purchases, they took forever to give me my money back. Their idiot cashiers didn’t seem to know how to work their machines to give me a refund. It seems it wasn’t «easy» at all.
I was a fool for continuing to shop there, but today I’ve had enough. When I walked in I was told that if I wanted to shop, I would have to leave my backpack near the door. Are they serious? I am a bicyclist, and my cycling backpack is worth $ 160 without anything in it. I can’t store it in my car because I didn’t come in one. I’m not going to leave it by the door where someone can easily run off with it because I know the assistant (if there even is one) near the check-​out station isn’t going to run after and recover my backpack. In more reputable stores, if they don’t want you to walk in with a bag they at least have the courtesy to check your bag in behind a counter or someplace safe and supervised.
Overall, this place has unfresh and sometimes unsafe food, terrible service, and unfriendly policies. I will not shop there again, and I advise you to find another place to shop.

Decent selection with the basics but doesn’t have everything. Only draw back is the parking. If you come when the shopping center is busy, good luck finding parking. Best to avoid the lunch and dinner time hours.

I go here when I am too busy to cook, have work to do, and need some quick eats. I typically can get in and out of here in 5 minutes. Their sandwiches are the best of the local grocery store premade sandwiches, and their self-​checkout machines actually work well. This place also tends to be pretty damned cheap, and they have a lotta fruit, trail mix, and other healthy stuff.
Wouldn’t recommend it for buying a few weeks worth of food though, as the checkout is slow on big orders. Also, weekends can get a little congested, as the aisles are small and it’s a small store.

This place is getting better and better! I used to never go here but I started randomly shopping here about 6 months ago and I feel like its improved so much even within that short period of time. They have great brands that even Ralph’s doesn’t carry. Theyre not quite up there with Whole Foods and Sprouts but theyre better than Ralph’s Von’s and Lassens.

I love the convenience of this place and the fact that it’s close enough to my house that I can run and make a trip this somewhat health-​conscious establishment for groceries.
I also appreciate the variety of quality products they carry. Some highlight items from this store include wheat pizza dough, pre-​made butternut squash, walnut & beet family-​style salads when I’m in a pinch, raw almonds, and the amazing clearance section where they sell all the food about to expire on major discount. I’ve had a full lunch w/​$ 2 from that section!
Aside from that, while I do appreciate their efforts to buy locally (right?), what I do not appreciate is the over-​packaging on produce. Most fruit comes in some kind of pre-​packaged plastic bag here. Though admittedly a small point, for a company that boasts on cutting costs to consumers via other means, it seems ironic that while most produce sections across the city have their produce laid out for the consumer to pick and choose, this place displays a produce aisle full of fruits & veggies in plastic bags. Maybe it’s just me, but something about buying my fruits and vegetables in a bag irks me, so I avoid whenever possible. That, and their selection is usually limited to a few varieties of vegetables at a time. I’m better off going to Amar across the street as far as produce.
Other than that, no complaints. Staff is okay and I particularly like the blonde guy who’s usually stocking down some aisle when I go. (Sorry I don’t know your name!) But he’s exceptional and goes out of his way to make sure you’re finding what you need.

Fresh & Easy is exactly that — fresh AND easy! How fresh and easy? Read the other comments and you’ll soon learn. Even with a «crowd,» the flow is easy-going…I have NEVER felt rushed there. One person commented that you’ll basically dictate how much time you spend there… loved that one… HAHAHA…
Lately (as in within the past month) this location added a bakery for the made-​daily breads. Since it’s the only location I go to, I can’t and won’t speak about the other stores.
I’m loyal to the Channel Islands Blvd location because:
(1) their selection’s great, but the salads are AWESOME — great variety and always fresh;
(2) their discounted breads;
(3) there are NEVER any lines; and,
(4) the staff are ALWAYS smiling, easy to get along with, VERY helpful, and ALWAYS present! My congratulations and thanks to whoever trains them!

A smaller, more quieter option than the busy hectic over-​crowded mall across the street. Stocked with more organic type items for decent prices. Store is clean, spacious, brightly lit, and doesn’t feel over-​stocked. :)
A plus is that its so close to my mom’s house, so its super convenient to drop in if I need a few items.
I wouldn’t do my regular grocery shopping here though, just quick trips to pick up a few necessary items. I just like it because its less hassle (more parking, less people… and you know sometimes you just don’t like people…:P)
I bought a fresh & easy brand of pancake mix: pumpkin and pecan flavor one time. It was a little too sweet for my taste, but my family loved it! :)

Lots to love here. Having this place within a short walking distance from home rocks, especially considering the 25-​minute pilgrimage I have to make in order to get to our similar-​veined friend Trader Joe’s. It’s incredibly useful for quick trips after school and sports practices when the family cook (that’s me) gets a teensy bit distracted by deadlines and permission slips and traffic jams and – ooh, shiny things! Was that a quarter?– and temporarily forgets about trivialities such as making dinner for 3 hungry people who are considerably less distracted by gum wrappers in the street that look like quarters.
The prices are reasonable, and the coupons we get from time to time make shopping there even more worth my while. Self-​checkout always makes me nervous, but there’s rarely a wait for the check-​out stands and the staff is always friendly and helpful if we run into a snag. They are also way patient with my 5-​year-​old who really likes ringing up our groceries, and who has been in an «I WILL DO IT MYSELF!!!» phase since– oh, I don’t know, 15 minutes after his birth? –and no one bats an eye when Fresh and Easy backup has to stealthily swoop in to intervene after he’s patiently rung up the same package of arugula 16 times and Mommy is hyperventilating and scanning the store for shiny things to look at to calm her down.
Current favorites include: Lemon Cilantro Hummus. Lots of the pre-​packaged dinners but particularly the cheese tortellini. Refrigerated pizza crust. Water-​packed tubs of fresh mozzarella for my caprese-​salad obsessed daughter. Bagged arugula. $ 1.99 frozen crusty dinner rolls. Cashew butter, which thrilled this unable– to– eat –PB– *or* –almond– butter lady-​person to happy little bits. Kettle chips. One Huge Hunk dark chocolate bar. Lots of other little things I’m forgetting.
It does get a bit unwieldy with marauding youngsters around the time the high school lets out, and I tend to avoid dropping in around the general 2:30−4 pm time slot for this reason. That, and the fact that I can only do about 75% of my shopping trip here and usually have to make a Ralphs trip later for the missing items, are the only real drawbacks to this place for me, but they’re minor. I ain’t mad atcha, Fresh and Easy. You had me at «cashew butter».

Have found myself shopping here more often than not lately. Fresh produce, fair prices, adequate food selections, coupon mailers, plus I really like that smaller store atmosphere.
What I’ve found that I do NOT like about this particular location is the fact that it’s right next to the school. Went during the time school was letting out and I could barely get in the door for allllll the kids loitering right in front of the door. Once I made our inside, there were a plethora of backpacks in a pile in the middle of the floor, seemingly! Kids were just milling about the store, not spending any money, just loitering!
For a hard-​working paying customer, that’s beyond irritating. Management can easily do something about this, but maybe it’s just not that important as I did mention it to one employee who was just as agitated with the unwanted traffic, but didn’t (or couldn’t) do anything about it… Still a fan!

Not for grocery shopping! Only for emergencys or stopping by afterwork for something for dinner or lunch. Clean & prices are easy to read! I bought fresh fruit cup, chicken salad sandwich & kettle chips bag for $ 5.77! The drawback for me. Its close to my job so I bump into co-​workers all the time. Make sure not to have anything embarrssing in your basket!!! Its a self check out but not intimidating to use & there is someone there that helps you bag or if you need help checking out.

I was so excited to hear that Fresh & Easy would be in my city, and even better, in my neighboorhood!
My first exerience with Fresh & Easy was in Vista, Ca. It was 2 minutes away from my house in Vista. It was always fast, easy & convenient.
The Oxnard location is not any different. I go to Fresh & Easy about 2 – 3 times a week. Whenever I need something I just run over there and I am always home in 10 minutes. The food is fresh, everything is easy to find, there are no frills & its self check out so you have control over just how fast you get out of there. There are NEVER any lines and the fabulous thing is, they alway send weekly coupon w/​$ 3, 5 or $ 6 off (depending on how much you spend).
In the mornings, when I decide to go to Fresh & Easy, I always go to the clearance section b/​c they take out any of their inventory that is even close to the «purchase by» or «cook/​consume by» date. So, if you want an extra savings, buy your food in the clearance section & eat that same day!
Trust me, it isn’t «bad».
Fresh & Easy has saved my family a lot of time & money!

So cheap! This market is great. It’s like Trader Joes had sex with a produce department, and an affair with a «regular products» department, and made a giant fresh and easy baby.
The bacon selection is good! They even carry back bacon. Woohoo! Clearly marked good looking seafood, meat, and the poultry is CHEAP! I spent like 40 bucks here, and will eat for over a week.
Woohoo!

Oh Fresh and Easy of the sensible packaging and yummy products, how I wish thee would open a shop in my city.
We have nice people you could hire who would offer to help find things in the aisles, or come reset the self-​service machines when we mess them up. And then give us coupons to use the following week.
We have a matching demographic of 20 and 30 somethings, young professionals and beginning families in certain pockets of town. Good fit, I swear.
I want my Belgian Hunks, and British bacon, and honey and flax granola, and mushroom cavatappi, and sof’ella gluten-​free chocolate cake and frosting mix. And all your stuff that has ingredients I recognize.
Meanwhile, I have to shop at the Oxnard store. This is not good for my carbon footprint. Plus, it’s next door to a spudnuts. That’s not good for my stomach footprint.
