Mayan Hardwood

The only reason I gave a 2 star is because they actually have some of the items I needed that Home Depot and Lowes doesn’t carry but there customer service is beyond awful. I asked the guy at the custom cabinet desk a question and he told me I gave you the brochure and that he couldn’t help me with any questions I had and then proceeded to sit back down at the desk to do nothing. When I asked him again he rudely told me to look in the brochure! Don’t hurt yourself helping people!

We at Andrews fine cabinets have been purchasing lumber and our moldings for two years. The staff has always been great even when it gets extremely busy. We are glad to have them as one of our vendors. We look forward to continuing our partnership with them.

I am a professional contractor and have been buying from Mayan Hardwood or the last 15 Years. Never had a problem. They always have good quality hardwood, and sufficient quantities in stock, a wide variety of trims, and woodworking supplies. They also carry doors and cabinet parts. If they don’t have what you want in stock they will get it for you. The staff is great at taking their time to answering your questions. Special orders are always available quickly and on time every time. I refer all my customers to shop for their materials at Mayan. This is the only place to purchase your cabinet building materials, doors, and trim.

Great place, plain and simple. The long winded reviewer, all due respect, sounds like a lot of decorators I used to work for, who don’t know what they want and ask you to move the same stuff ten times. There is plenty of expertise here as to wood, make your own decisions about what you’re there for IMO and you’ll be fine. It’s not a Nordstrom’s.
The prices are great and I’m a serious hobbyist woodworker and have been to all the local shops and this has the best pricing and selection of all the local shops. Lots of good board to choose from especially if you know what you want. Check them out I say.

Nowhere else local to get these woods. I was referred by a fine cabinetmaker & by an all-​around construction guy both.
Do your homework on what you need 1^st.
My project was to restore an antique park bench with cast iron end pieces and teak or mahogany slats. A few of the 1″ back slats were damaged or missing.
Waiting for the right plank to be cut to my lengths took awhile. Bench not yet complete however when it is done it’ll last at least another 100 years.
Wish Mayan had certified woods to ensure consumers aren’t contributing to deforestation & global warming.

My friend was really struggling with picking out the baseboard and casing style for his home. He was having anxiety and needed to get this project done. He had already brought home several samples and I helped him narrow down the baseboard and casing but he really wanted me to visit Mayan Hardwood with him to see all of the samples to make sure he made the right choice. My friend asked me to accompanying him because I have worked in the design field for over 10 years in new home construction and renovation. I have been selecting materials and components for homes and offices and felt confident we could visit the place he selected and place an order. Keep in mind this visit took us a month to plan because of both of our busy schedules. When we entered I immediately asked for assistance and gave the young lady details on why we were there. However, an order clerk and a secretary behind a desk was not willing nor trained to offered specialized support. All of a sudden I was in home depot… but a more expensive home depot. By the time we got to our third person I never heard the «5 W’s» in customer service. «What, Why, Where, Who or When». I had to repeat myself each time and each time I got the same answer… all the styles look good together, take them home to try. Where was the hardwood specialist?! Know wonder my friend had been struggling. Finally an older gentleman approached us. I asked if he was a salesperson on the floor and he said no. OK. He did not offer to tell us who he was. I decided to go for broke and repeated for a third time why we were there. Because he didn’t ask any of the 5 W’s” we had to reinvent the wheel once again. He started off with «take the samples home to look at». I replied… we have already done that… we are now here to make a final choice and order. I was getting frustrated. Finally a light bulb went on over this gentleman’s head. As I entertained my friend with visions of how good the baseboard will look the gentleman approached us with 3 casing samples that would all very nicely compliment the baseboard we had decided on. All in stock, all ready to go, Yes! With three samples in hand and a distraction from multitude of choices on the wall, my friend could focus and pick. Done! I had to take a phone call outside and was very happy that not only did my friend order he made sure the product was delivered within the hour. Now I have to go back to how this experience could have been made much more productive. There should not have been time spent having to speak with three people on a showroom floor. If my friend could pick out the product himself, he would have gone to home depot not a specialty hardwood store. Mayan Hardwood needs to ask themselves; Do they want to be a self-​service run of the mill hardwood outlet with clerks taking orders or be a specialty hardwood store offering superior customer service.
