I have a problem. Ice cream. It’s at every turn and I am a definite fan of this amazing concoction. So I whined long enough and to kick off my birthday weekend, the hubby agreed to take me here for a scoop. Open until 10pm Monday through Saturday, we were in business. After a late dinner on a Friday evening, we still had enough time to make it here. We walked in and we were greeted by the friendliest gentleman. He made sure to remind us to ask for samples and we investigated our options. You, kind sir, are the reason for the third star. I looked and noticed that all of the ice creams appeared semi-melted. I asked about this and he said that it all depends on what’s mixed in. I tried Late Night Snack with potato chips and it was mushy and gross. So sad! He pointed out a handful of ‘firm’ options. I chose chocolate chip cookie dough and Heath bar something in a cup. Almost $ 6 and we were out the door. The Heath bar was mush. Not just the ice cream, but the pieces of candy. It leads me to believe that the ice cream was either old or not stored at the proper temperature for lengths of time. The cookie dough ice cream was almost practically melted, but the large chunks of dough have me something to bite into. Sadly, I shall stick to the Ben & Jerry’s pints from 7 – 11 or Jewel and remove my bookmark from this location.

Stopped in for a cone on the way home from Barrington last week. As others have said, what’s not to like about Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. We shared a Cherry Garcia cone. It was a waffle cone rimmed with nuts and chocolate. Like I said, what’s not to like? We don’t have a B&J near us at home, so this was a treat.

This Ben and Jerry’s is a small corner ice cream shop that has all the usual flavors with a few extra shop only flavors, including my personal B&J’s favorite — Seven Layer Coconut Bar. It is everything you would expect from a small ice cream shop — many types of cones, flavors, and pre-made combinations of shakes and smoothies for you to pick from. They can also make anything you want into a shake which can either destroy the ice cream or make it amazing depending on your choice. One scope of this, one scoop of that — they don’t mind and will make it however you want but be careful not to make an ice cream suicide. I have made a few mistakes of turning flavors into shakes and it just makes it blah — the chunks get blended up and their parts as well as their flavors are disturbed. The service is excellent as it is a family owned shop and it is kept very clean. Most of the time the same guy is dishing out the ice cream or one of his family members. They are all very friendly(how could you be sad working in an ice cream shop unless you were lactose intolerant) and it provides a nice atmosphere to chow down either on the bench outside or the tables inside. The only problem of course is the price. Ben and Jerry’s is not the cheapest ice cream when you buy it at the store so of course it is a little expensive when you get it at a specialty shop. It is in the ballpark of other ice cream shops, but just a tad bit higher. You can pick up pints of many of the ice creams in the same shop for the same price as two scoops — all you miss is the con. Also if you are tricksy you can ask for a hand packed pint for just a little more than a regular pint and get the flavors they don’t have in regular stores for a much lower price than getting cones/cups of the cream. All-in-all it is a nice place to stop by if you are in the area. One thing I have yet to tackle is the Vermonster which they sell at the store — one hot day with a group of 10 or so I plan on getting it done!

They give damn good BJs here. And let me tell you, it’s not everyday I take on two men at the same time, so you’d better believe it’s a special occasion when I let down my guard and allow the milky, rich fruits of Ben & Jerry’s labor to enter my temple. With that being said, I’m about 3.5 hours pregnant with a 7-layer coconut bar ice cream baby… and it feels like a 5 pounder. I’m hoping for a quick nightly gestation followed by a swift morning birth of the former double scoop, chocolate-dipped sugar cone treat. I’ve pass by this BJ’s about 4 – 6 times every week for roughly the past year and have *somehow* managed to never go in. It’s been hard, and I was tempted every time, but today I gave in to my desires, and only half-regretted it for bout 45 minutes after when I determined that all my pants are too hurt-y to wear during or after eating ice cream. This location is open till 10pm(super convenient!) and has the friendliest and sweetest little owner man and young girl(maybe his daughter?) working in the shop. They offer tastes, don’t judge when you want you want to take an already artery-clogging and food and mix it with another and then plop a straw in it to make it easier to take down faster(BJ ice cream milk shakes?! What, what?). What I’d really wanted was the Bill Murray Caddy Shack ice cream but understand it was a limited edition thing and even if it weren’t, keeping anything with Bill’s face on it in constant stock is going to be difficult. He’s a hot commodity, and can’t say I’m surprised by the shortage. Anyway, I went with the 7-layer coconut bar flavor and my boo got the late night something-something with Jimmy Fallon on the label that I had been eyeing because of the delicious flavor combination, but decided to boycott because Jimmy Fallon just seems like a hack-y douche and there will always only be one late-night man for me… David Letterman4Lyfe. Oooh, and I found out they sell a lot of the flavors they don’t have available for scoops, in the little frozen pint thingy-s on the right side of the store, as well as offering frozen BJ cake options… which is perfect because my BF has totally been wanting some BJs for our anniversary. So, though I really, REALLY enjoyed my BJ this time around, I’m hoping I can abstain and remain BJ free for at least a little while, while I try to convince my pants to fit again.

I went in yesterday for free scoop day and I was rather disappointed. I love Ben and Jerry’s, who doesn’t? But my ice cream had a really weird texture, it was almost as if it had been unthawed and refrozen. I got the late night treat, and the potato chips were kind of off puting with that texture. I was also disappointed that they didn’t have Chubby Hubby.

So fun we found this one! Delicious. Ben & Jerry’s doesn’t disapppoint! Unfortunately, there isn’t one closer to my home… or is there? The one in Lincoln Park shut down many years ago and I am not familiar with the one posted on Unilocal that says there’s one in Schaumburg. Lucky for me, this one happens to be near my Sister’s place! There isn’t an Oberweis in her area to compete with! It’s a win-win and I’ll be back.

i went here for first time few days ago. they have decent typical ‘ben and jerry icecream’, but fantastic service. staff there are eager to help you find what you want, if you are unsure what you want, they will give you tiny spoons of icecreams for you to try. can be little pricey for just icecream, but its ben and jerry. only got 3 stars because it is pricey. icecream and service are both wonderful.
