Ingleside Inn

There is a certain charm in staying in a building which probably is at least 100 years old, but sleeping isn’t one of them. Each time someone anywhere in the complex flushed a toilet, took a shower, washed their hands or face, every pipe in the joint joined in a cacophony of sound. The heating unit wass an old wall mount that sounded like a freight train when it was in use. It very efficiently heated the room in about five minutes, but the heat was quickly lost to the gaps on each side of the door. Other than that, the staff was friendly, helpful, and Melvyn’s is a treasure. We had a blast at the bar and in the restaurant for the New Year’s holiday.

Had a blast here. Very charming. Will definitely come back. Great restaurant and fun bar! Pam B

I absolutely LOVED my time at the Ingleside Inn! I came to Palm Springs for my 21^st birthday with large group of people. They put my group in rooms that were all next to each other and were so accommodating. We went in August and had such an amazing time! We will definitely be coming back again!

THE AC DOES NOT WORK. Well, it does if you sit next to it and they bring in a box fan and offer bags of ice too. Given, it was unseasonable hot and humid this summer, but with being a 4 star hotel, I would have thought «climate control» meant not waking up in a pool of sweat. We ended up leaving after a few hours. The good: it is a very cute place and unique and might have been okay in less heat. Everything needs a bit of a face lift. And and no HBO.

Let me start by saying that I have stayed here before and LOVED it. Everything they promise on their site was absolutely true. It was magical and peaceful which is why it pains me to leave this review.
The location itself is spectacular… But (and this was also an issue last time) there is no ‘ample’ parking here. You have a one way, curved driveway that is used all day and night by people who come to enjoy the restaurant (I did eat there on my last visit and yes they fussed about the attire but the food was really average so I am not sure what the big deal is there). Parking here is a pain in the ass. Period.
My biggest pet peeve this time is the claim that this is a quiet getaway and on my last trip it was. As a matter of fact this is exactly why I came back! This time I step out of my car (after being told to go out of the driveway, around the corner and back to the beginning because there was zero parking) and I hear the horrifying sounds of screaming pterodactyls and by pterodactyls I mean children — from baby to teenage.
If this was the Holiday Inn or something like that I wouldn’t mind but I came here for that so-​called quiet getaway the Ingleside loves to boast about. Splashing, crying, screaming kids throwing balls around… I didn’t pay the amount of money I did to be at a poolside Chuck E. Cheese. I really don’t want to swim in a pool with dirty diapers.
Add in last night, at 2am there were tons of people right outside our room drunkenly yelling an entire conversation having zero respect for the guest of the hotel.
So between no rest during the day and no rest during the night, I can only conclude I am staying in a Twilight Zone version of the Ingleside Inn right now.
I have a reservation here for September and I am probably going to cancel that and take my hard earned money somewhere I can truly relax in peace.

My wife and I stayed for the Fourth of July weekend and the overall property exceeded our expectations. Tucked away, but just off the main downtown strip, you are both secluded and right near the heart of downtown. The property is an old 1920s villa-​style retreat, very quiet, except for the birds, a random water fountain or two, and the buzz of occasional cicadas. The suite we stayed in was very clean, super charming and had its own private patio. We were fortunate to stay in the interior courtyard so we had a great view. The bathroom was spacious and seemed very new, but true to the overall style of the property. The air conditioning was adequate considering it was 110 during the day (keep in mind there is no central air). Parking is ample, free, and is conveniently behind the property. We were initially let down by the pool area (at first). Slightly worn out lounge chairs, but when we took to the pool area on our last morning, we found it to be a slice of paradise. Quiet, calming and frankly, AMAZING mountain and Palm tree views.
We highly recommend this property if you are looking for a quiet and romantic getaway. Loaded with CHARM and the staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming!

Had lunch at Melvyn’s yesterday. Mediocre food and the doorman was pretty rude. If you show up dressed as we all dress in PS, expect them to fuss about your attire. When we finally got in, the place wasn’t very nice so I am puzzled why we needed dressy clothing to eat there. Felt like BS. The waitstaff was good. I had a Cobb salad and it was fine but I won’t come back due to the rudeness when we arrived. Oh. Bring $ 3 to park.

Stayed one night at the Ingleside Inn… In case people aren’t aware, the winter months are peak season in Palm Springs and the surrounding area. Room rates are very expensive especially on Friday and Saturday. Mid week is also pricey but obviously not as high as Friday and Saturday. Scoured a number of hotel search engines trying to find the best price for a mid– high range hotel. Based on a fairly exhaustive search we consistently found the Ingleside to be a 4 star. We noticed, however, that it was significantly lower priced then other hotels atva similar level.
the grounds are absolutely beautiful. No issue there whatsoever. I also appreciate the fact that it is actually a historic property and that the owner has chosen to keep the original look to the majority of the structure’s outward appearances.
Armida, the front desk lady could not have been friendlier or more hospitable. She was genuinely welcoming and down to earth.
The room we stayed in had to have been the absolute smallest size room on the property. The room was really quite small. the décor and furnishings in our room were dated. Not dated in the sense that the hotel building itself was constructed in the 1920’s, but dated as in the room had not been updated since 1993. you can get a sense of what the room was like by viewing the photos of the room on kayak and probably also from the hotel’s website. even the sheets and the comforter felt worn to the touch. Not new or even newer, just old and worn out. The room’s furnishings were all dark and given that there were only two dim lamps in the room it made it difficult to find things in our luggage even in the middle of the day.
The air conditioning system was also very dated. it was a large box that stuck out from the upper portion of the wall and was very loud when it clicked on and was running. I think my main issue with our stay overall was the shower. Space why is the shower was great, but water pressure wise it was awful. Please be sure to check out my photo as a visual aid…
at the time of this writing our beloved Golden State is in a several year drought :-(I initially thought that perhaps the hotels owner had made the executive decision to lower the water pressure in all of the rooms to help in the water conservation effort. when I read the Unilocal reviews for this hotel I quickly came to realize that that idea did not check out; a writer who stayed in or same room noted the very, very low water pressure in the shower also.
This may be neither here nor there for some people, but there was an old dilapidated staircase in the back of the property that attaches to the second story unit. It has clearly been neglected for many years.
the lawn area surrounding the pool and the pool itself are both beautiful. I really like how they decided to stick with the original pool rather than filling it in and creating a new, modern one. I think this works because the pool is in good shape great shape despite its age and the style goes with the rest of the property.
overall, I can see why this hotel was definitely lower priced then others in the area. If you choose to stay there and are not expecting your room and overall experience to be that’s of staying at the Riviera up the street (which received a multi, multi million dollar overhaul in 2008), you’ll be fine and enjoy your stay. After all, it is a very good price for staying in the dead center of North Palm Canyon Drive. $ 110 ($ 133 0.t.d) was very reasonable during winter and at that rate it is sure to become a real bargain come summertime when hotel prices drop across the board and Palm Springs.
I think Mr. Haber’s (the Ingleside’s hotelier) enthusiastic dedication to his hotel would be more apparent if he fixed the water pressure issue and updated the rooms (including increasing the amount of available light).
Lastly, there is a pretty big «to do» made over various celebrities who have stayed otherwise visited the property over the years (the angle Ingleside Inn as well as Melvyn’s Restaurant & Lounge). The odd thing that I couldn’t get over was that it seemed the vast majority of celebrities who stayed or visited did so almost exclusively during the seventies and eighties. A small slide a slideshow from a small electronic frames at the check in counter displayed a few notable celebrities from recent years. There wasn’t a single photo added to the walls from more recent years. How do I know this? Because their photos taken on the property with hotel owner are displayed ALL OVER the bar area of Melvyn’s and are included cover to cover in books authored by Mr. Haber located on the night stand of the guestrooms. I simply couldn’t get over how odd it was that all the photos, as many as there were, were all taken, essentially, during one time. just odd…

Have read other reviews and agree that this place has ambience — everyone already knows it was once a pit stop for some of the stars maybe once. Even some of the old regulars dress up like stars, funny really. I will mention a couple of things though– one is the rates are going up up up… and have also noticed this in Melvyns Bar too probably because of popularity or from some other influence. The place does need refurbishing in some areas. The spa/​jacuzzi area is shabby — the tub needs a new coat of cement and paint and its way too hot. The lattice and sign replaced. Another thing is they need pavers around the bar area near the pool, the grass never grows there and can get muddy and patchy. another thing is the green slime build up that seeps into the pool. yuk!!! The upstars standard rooms need a refurb. No more champagne upon check in — They have now introduced a resort fee daily. few other changes. Love the staff — good service.

The hot water pressure in our room (#2) was quite low. The shower water came out almost like the misters on restaurants along Palm Canyon Dr. There was no vent in the bathroom. I did report these issues to the manager who did write them down. Yes, as others have said the lights in the room are quite dim. I don’t know why they don’t put in fluorescent bulbs. Some of the rooms don’t have a lot of natural light. The staff was very friendly and accommodating as to locking up our bikes. The pool and grounds are beautifully attended to.

As someone who believes in service Ingleside Inn is a top notch business! We stayed with them over the weekend and enjoyed Villa 7. From the front desk to the housekeeper to the groundsman, everyone was friendly and cared to make the stay as pleasant as possible. The pool and grounds are very well kept and it has a perfect old Palm Springs quality… peace and quiet. The grounds were beautiful and are a quick walk to the center of town. We’re coming back for sure!

I was a guest here during the 4^th of July holiday and generally was trying to make the best of the situation considering so many other places were sold out I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Ingleside was available and based upon the cockroach in my shower on the last day I think I’ve learned why.
The first room I ended up in was a sauna with no airconditioning (worst than places I have been to in Mexico) There was however a non-​functional air unit from god only knows when and suffice to say that I could not breathe in there and the floors were filthy… somehow I managed to get into another room which was not far off from the first.
You will see from photos that the grounds are simply beautiful and the most charming I have seen in the area– but my stay here was downright scary to think of how disgusted I was to learn that I had been eating in a room infested with roaches that size is so far beneath health & safety standards the only time I plan to come back here is in a bad dream.
Also, prices for those rooms are not ok whoever owns the Inn has no regard for the safety and health of it’s guests, period. I was seduced by it’s charm and history but that all went out the window when I found a large cockroach in the shower that was pretty much it for me.
My mere hope is for someone else who is perhaps reading can easily benefit from my bad experience. If you are going to stay here regardless of this review I would insist on seeing your room before placing a reservation whether you have been here before or not and be very clear on what you are getting. I searched Unilocal and the Ingleside website but the situation was untenable and many other places I called were sold out for the weekend.

Great hotel. A nice oasis. Hidden yet still close to the main palm springs area. Complimentary water and soft drinks in room. Fruit basket and cheese were a plus as well.

We’ve always enjoyed our stays here and keep coming back. Our criticisms are small but worth mentioning for those who care to know.
If you’re coming here to relax, and that includes reading, the lights in the rooms at night are dim. The Ingleside’s installed the new bulbs that are supposed to last a half-​life, but deliver ugly muddy light that strains the eyes.
The bar cannot make a mojito cocktail, because they don’t carry fresh mint. That herb just needs to be stuck in the ground and will grow like crazy in any of the dozens of the Inn’s flower beds! Nor could the bartender make a Pimms Cup, because he doesn’t stock ginger ale! WTF?!
Their wifi is iffy which is annoying. But overall, the grounds are charming and lush and the place has soul, it you prefer corporate chic or a new hip clip joint, by all means don’t come here. But for a lovely and romantic getaway with an Old Hollywood
vibe, the Ingleside’s hard to beat.

Fabulous property, classic old Palm Springs style. Not a contemporary or modern place but a step back I’m time.

Room 113 is above the Bar so if you stay on a Sat night the music goes till 1:00am
I have to say I loved the pool area I give that a 5 star rating due to the fact is was mellow and not filled with hipsters

Visiting the Ingleside is like visiting your favorite aunt or staying with family for the summer. Each room has character and warmth — not just your typical hotel room. Having lived on the East Coast this reminds me of the summer cottages you can rent by the beach or a trip to the Cape. I work in hotels and can usually get a discount elsewhere but this is my personal favorite in Palm Springs.
After reading some recent reviews I was worried that things had taken a turn for the worse but was so incredibly happy when greeted by a familiar face at check in and an awesome room. How many guests can say they love being in certain rooms and remember their last stay by the location and the unique features and personalty? There are great suites and I love the library room but am just as comfortable for a more simple stay in one of their courtyard or porch rooms.
Hiring the right staff can be tricky and every hotel has an off day but I am always excited to return to the Ingleside. Since my first stay about 8 years ago this is really the only place in Palms Springs. I strayed a couple times to try something different but the allure of the trendy places can’t be matched by what the Ingleside offers — a quiet getaway with warmth and ambience. Rooms have been renovated over the past years but retain the same charm and uniqueness. The grounds are beautiful and the staff always amazing. Melvyn’s is a step back in when it was about simple and great food. Their brunch is pure and simple indulgence with freshly baked croissants, fresh fruit, and classic menu items.
I also have to say one of the redeeming qualities that few mention is this is mostly adults and has a more mature crowd. You can lounge by the pool and have a great conversation with other guests who are also regulars. I always tell my friends about this wonderful hotel and encourage them to discover this gem. If you are looking for trendy and contemporary look elsewhere — but if you long for a quiet reprieve away from the hustle and bustle — filled with the unassuming and simple approach to hospitality you have found your new vacation spot!

I suppose it has its charm but this place needs updating. It might impress your relatives from Ohio but not jaded Angelinos who’ve seen it all. Staff was very nice, especially the front desk lady and valet guys. Courtyard and grounds are picturesque. The décor of the villas is dated and there was a musty smell in our unit. Plumbing of our shower growled when on. Lovely private patios and nice breeze when French doors are opened. The price is very reasonable so you can’t expect 5 stars. Convenient to downtown and adequate on site or street parking. I did not get the appeal of the on site restaurant Melvyn’s. Much better choices nearby in town.
Liz Taylor, Blue Eyes and other aging celebrities once frequented this place but that doesn’t make up for the overall slightly above average quality of this property.
Good for the price. The welcome basket was a nice touch (another ½ star for that) Free but weak wireless signal (sorry, taking that ½ star away)

Quaint
