Deservedly, 5 Stars awarded to Peggy, John, and Laleh !!!
Not only are they all topnotch at styling, color, highlights, and barbering, they are interesting and pleasant people. I couldn’t be more pleased my longtime hairdresser, originally the owner of Laleh’s Hair Design, (now Ricks Rather Rich ice cream) is now at Blades. In her absence, Peggy and John have both done my hair and I was more than pleased.
Blades’ clientele caters all age groups, and I am impressed with an increasingly hip group of young professionals who patronize the shop, as well as longtime regulars — both men and women. In addition to their professionalism and expertise, the shop atmosphere is interesting, and a variety of reading material and music is offered, although the conversations are best!
Peggy is exceptional with very young children. I’ve seen her do entire families all of whom seem genuinely appreciative of her efforts — Mom & Dad can offer a Ricks ice cream as a reward to a reluctant or nervous child.
Blades is located in the Charleston Shopping Center, an ideal location for a variety of shopping needs and eating options. It’s a fun place to go-you’ll be entertained as well as getting EXPERT hair care. I have NEVER seen a less than great haircut or «do» at the end of a service, or a disaatisfied client
My sole hesitation in recommending Blades is they will become even more sought after, and I’ll have trouble getting an app’t! They accept walk-​ins.

Peggy’s been helpful when I’ve had questions and when I was ready to update my look. She’s generally on time with my appointments and her work in quick and consistent.
The shop is generally clean and it’s very easy to park.

Great place! Ask for John, he’s the coolest ;)

Since I moved to California a few years ago, this is the first place where I was really satisfied with my hair cut. A friend recommended this place to me, and I wasn’t disappointed. I asked for Peggy and she spent a lot of time listening to what I wanted. Overall, it is a very good deal for $ 20.

This place is awesome — I’ve had my hair cut at a bunch of different places in Mountain View and nearby and this place really wins out. I think it’s about $ 20 for a haircut and it’s well worth it. The inside is very clean and looks very nice.
The best part about this place is John and Peggy. They’re both super friendly, nice, and cut hair like no others can. Peggy recommended some product (Redken) for my curly hair and I’ve been using it ever since — I always struggled with having long hair because I didn’t know such a thing could look good until she applied some after my haircut.
John is always friendly and telling jokes — he’s really a blast to be around and I look forward to having my hair cut about once a month at this place. I also asked him to even out my beard and he gladly obliged. I would definitely recommend Blades to anyone.

I’ve had my hair cut by John several times and with one exception I’ve loved them. He listens to what you want, then follows through. The cut is good, the shape is excellent and I’m happy with it. Interesting to note the prices mentioned below; he charges me $ 50 — more than he is apparently charging others! Who knew?

Found this place through Unilocal and it is good. Peggy was good at her job of trimming my hair and also as a conversationist — I wold come back to this place.

Still a great place for a kids’ – or dad’s – haircut. Took the preschooler to Peggy while visiting Palo Alto, and he got the best cut he’s had – well, since we left Palo Alto.

Now I’m only giving this a «2 star» instead of 1, because the other gals/​staff there were really friendly and nice to my two boys. We had the worst luck getting JOHN there.
Although he cut both my boys’ hair fine — his attitude was not impressive. He did seem to work at a «feverish pace» as if «he can’t wait till this is over». He did not make me feel welcome or «happy to have us» as customers. Yes, ok, mind you, my sons are age 5 and 2, but still — his body language and mannerisms read «I don’t like dealing with kids and can’t wait till this is over». He was not pleasant, does not smile, and charged $ 20 each for a kid’s haircut! It’s a bit overpriced I say. I’ve had others cut my kids’ hair — and they’ve done it with a better attitude, made me feel welcome, and made me feel like I wanted to go back to them. The ONLY reason why we came here was because we were doing something in the area and the location was convenient.
NOTE TO future NEW customers: Don’t waste your time going to this place IF you get stuck with JOHN — I’m sure he’s been cutting hair for a while… maybe he’s been doing it a bit too long that he doesn’t enjoy his job anymore and needs to retire.

After coming to the Palo Alto area for school, one of my major concerns was about finding a good, inexpensive and consistent barber. I was fortunate to find all three criteria covered at Blades.
I’ve had the pleasure of getting haircuts from both Peggy and John over the past two years and have never had a problem with their results. While you may find *slightly* cheaper haircuts in the area, I’d always pay the extra couple dollars to ensure a quality haircut. Thanks to both of you for two great years of haircuts!

Peggy does a great job and is always fun to talk to. She listens to how you want your hair cut and makes great suggestions. The banter back and forth between Peggy and John adds to the entertainment value!

My 2 sons (13 and 9) and I have been coming here for over a year now, since moving from the East Coast. Over the years we have all had bad haircuts from the chain stores, but never once here have we been disappointed.
John is a classic barber shop entertainer, who simply loves what he does. If you don’t like his first joke, he’ll keep trying. Don’t forget to ask him for Blues music recommendations. My iTunes charges have been as high as my haircut fees. Peggy does a great job with haircuts and is warm and welcoming to the boys who never want to go get their haircuts. She simply doesn’t let them stay in a bad mood. She is always cheerful, unless John irritates her, and I love the back and forth between John and Peggy throughout the day anyway. As an aside, I dare to call you her «Mom» when you are there.
If you would rather eat dinner at a fast food restaurant, and always shop at chain stores rather than local business, then go around the corner to great clips and try your luck with recent beauty school grads. If you want an experience and a reliable cut, try Blades.
I am a bit nervous to be too positive, because I don’t want to wait in line! But, they deserve it.

John seems like a nice guy, so now that’s out of the way.
Now, to what’s really important…
This place is insanely overpriced; $ 20 for a simple trim, nothing off the top, no scissor work. You gotta be kidding me (…the only reason I even came here is because my barber of 12+ years is having his shop remodeled).
Second, despite the fact I was the only customer even in the shop, John seemed to be working at a feverish pace. Umm, for $ 20 (not including tip) take your time a little bit and make sure you get it right.
Third, dude was super rough on my head. I’m definitely not used to being jabbed with clipper guards and left feeling raw. Most barbers are able to give you a proper fade with just the clippers and a comb. He was blasting through my hair with various clipper guards; I could have done the same at home.
I’m cool.

I don’t trust hair stylists at all. Everytime I go get my haircut done, they typically cut too short, layer it too much, or thin it out. And I always leave the salon in tears…
BUT JOHN IS DIFFERENT. I scheduled an appointment with John since both my husband and daughter get their hair cuts there (by Peggy and John respectively). So I thought why not. might as well. My long Asian hair was getting waaaaay too long and bohemian looking.
I sat in John’s chair and 20 minutes later, my hair was done! Exactly how I wanted it. Cleaned up. Trimmed. Still very long. Fashionable. Trendy too. I am a satisfied customer and would totally come back here again.
WELL DONE!

This is a tough review because it isn’t about the haircut which is fine– short and easy. I am not picky at all. I just let him cut as he wished… and o said i liked it. We had a pleasant experience.
It’s because when I asked how much I owed him John way over charged me. The website says a woman’s cut tops out at $ 30 but he charged me $ 40. and I know that the last time I paid $ 25!
I won’t go back… ever. I don’t like being cheated. It was only a $ 25 haircut.

Got my hair cut by Juan. He took his time and asked a lot of questions about my desired haircut. We had an awesome chat and I really liked the finished product, at a good price. Looks like I found a place to be a regular.
They’re in the middle of a minor remodel so I’m curious if they will retain the traditional barber shop appeal.

Both Peggy and John deserves 5 stars and more.
I moved my office to the neighborhood a few months ago, so I was in search of a new haircut place nearby. I found Blades using Unilocal.
The first time I was there, I had the pleasure of meeting John. In addition to a great sense of humor, he also does a mean hair cut. I gave him specific instructions on how I normally like my hair. He thought for a second and made an alternative suggestion. Said that I should try it and he guarantees that my wife would be happy. Sure enough… :)
The second time, John was off for the week, and so I had the pleasure of meeting Peggy. As reported by others, she is great to talk to and easy going. When I go to a haircut place, I normally dozes off. But here, it’s like visiting the local bar. LOL. Her hair cut skill is great also. Since I was new, she would make a few cuts, and then ask me if it was OK. Like John, she also made a few suggestions on how I can do my hair for the look that I want, and even do it in a way so that I can extend the time between visits. I love it. I told her that’s not good for business. When I went to Super Cut, they cut you in a way so that you have to go back soon. And Peggy is doing the other way around. She just laughed and said the goal is to have happy customers. What a concept!
Finally, at $ 17, that about the same price as SuperCut, but twice the fun and many times better quality wise…
