Truly, utterly horrible. My wife and I have a low bar for Thai(because we love it so much). The ambiance is lacking. Pink painted ceiling beams, old industrial carpet, and cheap décor. That didnt impact the review. The service — poor. We were sat after standing in front of restaurant for 2 minutes with no greeting. The waiter brought out the hot tea 10 minutes after we ordered it and didn’t refill. No followup within 5 minutes of bringing out the entrée. That took away a star. The 3 missing stars all came from the food. The spring rolls were clearly prepared earlier as they were soggy and vegetables with a classic ‘refrigerated taste.’ The Pad Thai was simply offensive. Not even sure how to describe it, but we had 2 or 3 bites, pushed the plated into the middle of the table, and asked for the check. Like I mentioned, we love Thai — I even like frozen and cafeteria Thai. I am not a snob, this place is just horrible.

By far, THEWORST Thai I have EVER had(and I have had a lot). I have made it better myself… and that’s saying something. We ordered spring rolls. The wrap was chewy and soggy and the vegetables were lackluster and flavorless. When they were dipped in the sauce, they were then just flavorless sugary spring rolls. They were better than the pad thai, however. I can normally eat what other people call«bad» pad thai. I’m pretty forgiving… this crap on the other hand, was beyond bad… beyond description. I took a bite and spit it out. Literally. I have NEVER had anything that horrible in my life. We paid for the remainder and then left the nearly untouched dish on the table and left to find something edible. GROSS.

This used to be the Thai place to go to in palo alto. However, they seem to have forgotten one major point of running a restaurant: you have to keep trying. Today’s service was extremely slow, the first person in our party of 8 got their food half hour before the last and staff kept us in the dark and was very unapologetic. When I asked to speak to a manager I just got told that he/shes not there and not a soul cared to ask what my complaint was or if they could take a message, etc. Bottom-line: today, no one cared. Service has been on the decline for a bit but today it hit rock bottom. Quite honestly thaiphoon down on Emerson has food that’s quite comparable if not better anyway. So if you are in the area and wondering where to go choose another spot for Thai or you may be disappointed.

Wow… not a lot of love for Krung Siam but I have to say I found nothing wrong with my experience here. My bf and I came in on a Sunday afternoon we ordered a chicken satay appetizer, a bento box of sorts and I got the crab meat and shrimp fried rice. The food was delicious and the server came around to fill our water more than twice. it was a slow day however. There were only a few tables occupied but service was not out of the ordinary like other reviewers noted. Prices were reasonable. I mean c’mon, it’s Palo Alto, did you expect anything to be less than 10 dollars? Anyhoo, I’m a fan and I would go back!

I came here for lunch yesterday with my sister who is in town visiting. We were seated immediately and they took our order as soon as we closed our menus. I had the panag curry with chicken and she had the mee kow with chicken. My order came out pretty fast, however, hers took an extra 5 minutes. I felt bad eating while she had nothing, but I didn’t want mine to get cold. Once her dish finally came out, my sister enjoyed it. My panag curry was just ok. I’ve had better for sure. Would I go back? Probably not.

Went here with my sister who was visiting from LA. I wanted Thai food for some reason, and this place looked as good as any. We showed up at about 8PM on a Saturday night. I was pretty worried when I walked in and found there were only 3 tables occupied. Saturday night on University Avenue, and it’s virtually empty? Usually means trouble. So I tempered my expectations and we were seated immediately. Water came quickly and the waitress was attentive — although I felt like she came to ask us if we were ready too early. Just little nit-pick stuff. We decided to order a simple chef salad and the green curry chicken. The salad took way too long to come out, considering it was a salad. The curry chicken was ready first, so we just had them bring that out right away. Better to have food as soon as it’s ready, even if it’s out of order, than have food that’s been sitting out for 10 minutes and getting cold just to avoid plates coming out in the wrong order. The chef salad was okay. Veggies were nothing special, but we liked the dressing. It’s sort of a soy sauce thing, but not quite as salty, a little sweeter, and with some lemon taste. Oh, now that I put that in words, it doesn’t sound at all like soy sauce… The green curry was pretty darn good. Nowhere near the quality of some of the more trafficked places you’ll see in, say… Berkeley, but it tasted good nonetheless and I didn’t find anything dissatisfying. Nobody will contest that there are better restaurants on University Avenue, but better Thai places? I can’t say for sure. That said, this isn’t a bad option to settle for if you’re craving Thai and happen to be in the neighborhood.

Pass. Disinterested staff and below average food. No wonder, it was empty at rush hour. Yet to find a good Thai option in this immediate area. Everything is mediocre.

Grilled chicken was ok. Wasn’t dry. But I’m comparing it to campus dorm food so any change is good for me. The veggies in the beef curry thing were nice. I had already eaten but wanted to come hang out with friends. I got the appetizer summer roll-ish thing. The portion was quite generous, but my god, the peanutty sauce was sooo sweet and too much and overpowering. I was expecting a light dish, and it was too heavy for me due to the sauce. Ugh, so close. Why do restaurants feel the need to disguise the star of the dish with sauce? Also, wtf, I got my appetizer AFTER my friends got their entrees and had started eating. Ok…

I’m confused. Last night’s dinner was actually enjoyable… especially penang chicken curry and beef + eggplant. The other three items — basil chicken, druken noodles and yum woon sen — were decent as well. Ending the meal with sticky rice with mango and fried banana with coconut ice cream was a delightful idea. Only if they could keep it consistent… I’d hate to come back and update this review with a 2-star again.

Thai food? That means I have high standards. I’ve def had better food than this. We were seated immediately and were served water and complimentary soup. The soup was basically progresso vegetable soup w/some spices. Yeah, I know. Totally whack. 0⁄5 The spring rolls came out fairly quickly, but I found the rolls to be smaller in size than normal restaurants would make, not to mention, their spicy peanut sauce was obviously watered down. 3⁄5 Calamari was an interesting take, but it was just batered and fried squid, nothing else. The sauce served it was quite tasty. 4⁄5 Duck and vegetable special was tasty but disappointing because there was less than 10 pieces of duck(not to mention, highly fatty) amongst the hoards of vegetable on the plate. If I am paying $ 14 for a platter with DUCK as the first word, I EXPECTDUCK! 2⁄5 Fried whole fish was tasty(#68 on the menu), but still a 3⁄5 for me personally. Pinapple fried rice was THEBEST but then again, how do you screw up fried rice? Great presentation though, 4⁄5 Pad Thai w/assorted seafood was good, but the mussels still had specs of sand in them. Like really? Seriously? Come on man. Handle your business. Dish was overall too sweet. I know it’s a sweet dish in general, but the sauce was overly sweet compared to how it should be. 3⁄5. and that’s just cus I like seafood. Lunch size Red Curry and Brown rice was a good sized proportion and quite tasty. I’d recommend most people that come here to only frequent for lunch time and get the lunch special proportion for one. Thai Iced Tea: TOOSWEET. BATHROOM: Only one stall for both men and women, wallpaper has been poorly applied, and the entire bathroom experience is one of slightly disgusted proportions. I think I’ll stick to my preferred spot in Fremont, thanks.

Of all the places on University Ave., my friend and I go here. First off, the décor was dated and pink was everywhere, which probably should of been the first warning sign. My friend and I decided to get pad thai with chicken, garlic duck, sweet-and sour chicken soup(tom yum gai), and steamed white rice. The food was okay. I thought the pad thai and garlic duck were a little sweet for my liking. Also the rice was somewhat mushy and my friend found a small fly in our soup after we had two servings of it. We told the manager and he didn’t charge us for it. Yeah, we are not coming back here again.

I’ve had my share my Thai restaurants and I was quite disappointed with this place. The place feels like it hasn’t been maintained, and service was okay. The only thing I enjoyed was their shrimp appetizer that tasted like rice crispy.

It didn’t taste awful. But it wasn’t very good either. Not good enough to pay $ 10.95 for a small portion of pad see ew with shrimp.( ) 4 shrimps total. Noodles weren’t even hot when it came out. $ 8.95 for a silver noodle soup. Looked impressive because they served it in a traditional pot with flames coming out.( ) But that was all. The broth was sweet. Most of the ingredients probably came from a can. Left more than half the soup in the pot and didn’t even bother to take it to go.

For the life of me, I can never remember which one is Siam Royal and which one is Krung Siam until I’m halfway through the door. I’ve been to both several times! One of them is supposed to be better than the other, blah blah blah they’re both good and neither is great. They both serve up a nice Thai iced tea, decent pad thai and drunken noodles, decent spring rolls, decent panang curry, and decent Thai barbecue chicken. One of these offers 10% off your bill if you pay cash… flip a coin, folks. For the record, the above is copy-pasted, as promised, from my review of Siam Royal five minutes ago. Pictures indicate that this is the one with the ugly puke-pink walls. This means that they have good mango sticky rice and pineapple fried rice.

I want my money back. From the outside this place looks decent. My friend and I were hurtin’ for some yummy thai food so we decided to stroll on over here after running a few errands. Upon entry, you feel like you’re in circus circus circa 1989 because the décor brings you back that far. The carpet boggled my mind and the pink walls made me think of pepto bismol. We waz starved! So we ordered the papaya salad, tom yum vegetarian and pad thai vegetarian plates. The flavors were mediocre and the way the vegetables were cut really affected the way everything tasted. The zucchini and carrots were cut with one of those zig-zaggy knives so they looked like a cheap looking garnish or something. A little hard to explain, but even I could come up with a better presentation for food… everything was just unappealing and unappetizing. Service was super slow. This place is a no go… forrrrrrr sho…

Ehh. Mediocre Thai food. So i’ll tell you how I ended up eating here, since I like to share my life on Unilocal.Last week, my boyfriend and I planned to go to a really nice restaurant in San Francisco to celebrate my birthday. But of course, we got into a huge fight and I threw a fit. So, I called the restaurant and cancelled the reservations. By 6PM, I was getting really hungry, and decided to make truce since I still wanted to go out and eat. So, since it was already pretty late, we ventured to Palo Alto rather than SF. I wanted Tamarine, but the hour and a half wait was out of the question for my starving stomach. So we strolled down University Avenue, and stumbled upon Krung Siam and I thought, why not, Thai food will at least suffice my starving tum. I don’t know why, but for some reason if a restaurant is on University, I automatically assume that it has to be somewhat good, but I’m wrong.(after dining here and at Miyake’s). The service here wasn’t bad at all, but the food was really just«eh.» For appetizers, we had the fresh spring rolls, which were okay — tasted like cheapo veggies wrapped up. I ordered the shrimp Pad Thai for dinner, and my boyfriend had the BBQ combo. The Pad Thai was just okay — it wasn’t flavorful enough, and there was just a little bit of tofu and shrimp. My boyfriend’s BBQ combo actually looked to be a great deal — $ 13 for a salad, rice, and three types of bbqed meat(pork, chicken, and beef), but he said that the meat was all really poor quality meat and overcooked. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice, which was pretty good. Overall, wasn’t satisfied.

Okay, let me tell you how spontaneous I felt this day… Maybe I’m being melodramatic. We were shopping/strolling University Ave. and decided to grab something for lunch. There are so many options! Oh my, what should we eat! Pasta? Thai? Pizza? Burgers? I don’t know… let’s have thai food. Okay, well which one? Theres siam royal and theres krung siam… Let’s go to krung siam since it’s next to red mango. Well I get in and it’s pretty busy… not. That’s okay though, because the other places seemed the same way. I ordered a pad thai. It was okay, nothing beats krung thai though. Overall, it was very similar to a one night stand. I was in, then I was out. Pretty cheap too.

Starving, in a pain pill haze, and dealing with a time zone issue. Wandering through Palo Alto, feeling like I am stuck in a normal suburb, my colleague and I stumbled in here and grabbed a booth. Well, to be a bit more precise, I was in a pain pill haze, but she was dealing with all the other side effects also. We ordered the first things our eyes settled on, mine– the pad Thai– chicken– no spices please. For her, the garlic chicken– Hot. Her comment to me was– we shall see. She commented that she had never had it hot enough to make her happy, but she was starved. Our food and beers came… we dug in. My Pad Thai hit the spot– literally. It was great. Not spicy, but also not bland. Her garlic chicken, incredibly spicy– hotter than any she had ever had before. The food took a bit of time, frankly a bit too long. The place was no longer packed, it had cleared out, and other tables that had sat after us ate before us– hence the 3 stars. Since we are stuck out here in the boonies, we will probably be back again. All in all, not a bad deal, cheap and tasty.

In my gastronomic experience, Thai food is supposed to pack some heat, which is clearly missing in the dishes here. Looking on the bright side, I didn’t have any antacids on me, so a part of me was glad that nothing we ordered was remotely spicy. Having been spoiled by the delectable offerings at Marnee Thai, we ordered the Po Pia Sod(fresh spring rolls), thinking they would be somewhat comparable to what we’re used to. What a major disappointment — the soft rice paper was stuffed with wads of lettuce… and not much else! The accompanying sauce was watery, hence the entire dish was bland and lackluster in every sense of the word. Thank goodness our entrees were flavorful. The panang curry with chicken had a smooth, savory yet sweet flavor. The Khee Mow noodles with shrimp was also good, although the solo tomato slice was pretty stingy. Service was prompt and attentive. I guess I shouldn’t complain much as this is considered pretty decent ethnic food in Palo Alto.

A great choice for the indecisive, especially if one is not sure whether or not to shell out an entire paycheck for dinner on University Ave(perhaps if one has not had the chance to check Unilocal). The food is quick and service is great, even at dinner time. I’ve had the Coconut Milk Soup, Chicken Pad See-Ew, and for dessert — Fried Banana with Ice Cream. Yum! I must point out that the Pad See-Ew here is way better than the Pad Thai. Pad See-Ew includes thicker noodles and a darker taste because the dish is more soysauce-based, while Pad Thai is fishsauce-based. Most Americans stick to the Pad Thai(myself included) but I always love changing it up with the Pad See-Ew for deeper flavor.
