I came here for public skating on the outdoor rink with my boyfriend. The rink was small, but ice quality wasn’t bad. It was crowded though. Lots of little kids going every which way, and adults who were not very steady on the ice made for a potentially dangerous situation in such a small space. I brought my own skates, but my boyfriend rental and said the rental skates were good. I would go back, but only if I knew it would be less crowded.

Came here with my girlfriend for her company’s holiday party! this is a really great venue for ice skating ! It’s super nice and clean and the ice is kept very smooth. You can either skate indoors or outdoors: outside they have a Christmas tree and festive light decorations!
Btw all their skates seem NEW which is a plus. Old skates are gross.

I had the opportunity to come here for a church fellowship event to decorate gingerbread houses and go ice skating. To ice skate there is an admission fee and a skate rental fee. I was not sure if we received a special group rate. We picked up rental passes from our pastor to redeem them for skates. They do have toddler sized skates starting from 6. The main rink is outside and there is a small rink indoors for team practices and stuff. Our group reserved an area with tables and there was a fireplace. We had it for 3.5 hours and I also noticed someone having a party on the other side of the rink. There are two parking lots which is not so obvious as you pull into the private lot. The lodge is in the middle and there parking on either side of it. We enjoyed watching the zamboni do its thing after our event ended.

It’s really about what you’re catering to the crowd. This tiny outdoor rink only open part of the year is not the ideal ice skating experience for every speedster. But what Winter Lodge knocks out of the park is creating an intimate and enjoyable environment for friends and SOs.
Last time I checked the prices were $ 10 without rentals, $ 14 with. Rentals provide plenty of size choices for both figure and hockey skates. For personal belongings there are lockers for rent, but every time I’ve gone everyone operated under «don’t be a jerk» and everyone just leaves their belongings at a bench somewhere. There are 2 – 3 2 hour windows open every day. These windows are sometimes specified to certain groups, like Wednesday 8 – 10 for 18+. Feel free to check their website for the perfect window for your family and your sad lonesome.
The size of the rink is expected — pretty small, you could probably finish a lap under 20 seconds. It’s really cozy though, not just in size. It’s warm enough where you don’t have to wear a thick sweater. There’s a wall where you can sit down WHILE ON THE ICE, which I’ve never seen before! Plus in winter time when there’s a tree with lights in the center and the snow falls is just lovely.
I wouldn’t hesitate to bring my girlfriend or any of my bros here. A really fun good two hours for anyone with an interest in ice skating.

My daughter learned skating at Cupertino before. I am not sure which level of lesson to sign her up. She was put into pre-A, and I was told that instructor would evaluate and put her in the right class. She stayed in pre-A, but my daughter told me that she was not learning anything new. So I called and was told the same thing again. My daughter asked the instructor herself, the instructor told her that it was too late since three sessions passed already. I feel bad that we spend money and time, and my daughter is not learning new things.
The stuff said that instructor did not put her in another class, that means my daughter still needs to learn the skill sets. I asked what skill sets she need to learn more, she said that you looked at the website yourself.
After talking with them, my impression is that it is not something that they care, and they don’t want to give more specific answer. My daughter may not be at strong A level, but if she feels she is not learning anythings, she should be given a chance to try level A, we are willing take the challenge if there is any. They simply don’t care.
They don’t have a good communication for this.

This place is seriously a hidden diamond. One of the cutest little ice rinks I’ve seen, it has lights, two fireplaces and even a snow machine that starts up ‘snow flurries’ every hour or so. It reminded me of the small ‘neighborhood’ ice rinks that pop up in Europe in the winter. Open from the end of September to the beginning of April, it gives you a lot of time to go and try this place and I really recommend you do. It makes a perfect date or a fun night out with friends or family. I saw people from all categories and skill levels while I was there. It does get a bit busy it seems, so next time I think I will go during the adult only session on Wednesdays. The staff here was super friendly, and they kept the ice organized as well as brought out the zamboni when it was getting a little rough. They offer skating lessons and it was really fun to watch the practice (in a separate, indoor rink) while waiting for the ice to be resurfaced.
This place really should rate 4.5 stars, but I bumped it down because it was pretty crowded on the ice (my poor beginner boyfriend was always getting jostled and knocked off balance by kids playing around), it doesn’t have a great place to store your stuff (you have to keep everything just shoved under a bench. It seems like they don’t have issues, but it’s unnerving to leave your purse unattended so we put mine in the car), and also (so nitpicky) I would have loved there to be some sort of concessions; a cup of hot chocolate and some cookies would have made this absolutely perfect. That being said, I will ABSOLUTELY be back and will recommend this place to all my friends. We had a great time, and I’m glad this place has managed to survive the years!

The place is so lively and pretty, I didn’t want to leave the rink even when my feet begged to go home.
I went here with one of my friends, today, from 3 – 5. This is my second ice skating experience, and it felt so awesome to be able to skate, though I fell on the ice multiple times. The rink is filled with little kids and laughter — makes it damn lively, we didn’t know how time flew. There was a group celebrating birthday party on the side, it made me want to live a kid’s life all over again.
They have a cloud, suspended at the top, from where there’s a snow fall at about 4:40, which was pretty awesome. Once the snow started, all the kids rushed and crowded right below the cloud. I didn’t get to enjoy the snow, I was scared of bumping into people. But, it was fun watching kids huddle together.
Once the night fell, they switched on the lights on the Christmas tree, and it was soooo pretty! They also has super cheap hot chocolate. We got hot chocolate once we were done skating. It was heavenly — the hot chocolate, the cold weather and the lights.
They also have music playing, but I wish they had speakers at both the ends of the rink. Once I skated to the other end, I couldn’t hear the music. Also, the rink is filled with little kids, so be careful not to trip over little people on the way: D

Overall, I like visiting this place. My only issue is that the ice conditions are inconsistent. One of my worst memories of this place was standing in a long line to the entrance and then having to dodge a puddle of some kid’s stomach contents. It was not a nice welcome so close to the entrance. Nobody cleaned it up because it was there on the way out, too. At least hose it down!
Even still, it is a great place to at least try out once. Get stoked for a retro experience.

Company event ice skating was initially not my idea of fun for a Wednesday after work, but it was actually a great experience, the first for me in the Bay Area. This lodge will transport you to one of those Nordic children’s books where all the cute characters dancing nonchalantly on ice. Very cute and that double rainbow nature offered us and background was totally amazing.
As per the experience itself… maybe because my group arrived kind of late we found the ice too melted, so it was too slippery and not great. Too many children for my taste mixed with adults (danger). People like me with no idea mixed with experts who do not have enough space for showing off, as it is very small rink. However I liked the nice picnic table setup and all the Thanksgiving decorations.

I’m here browsing my bookmarks & realized that I haven’t written a review for this place?!
Located in Palo Alto, the Winter Lodge is a cute & definitely romantic place to take your love one (s) to go ice skating. Earlier this year back in mid-January, I came for a date during a weekend night time. They had strands of twinkling lights strung out through out the place. Definitely adds to the romantical. Hehe.
Prices were fairly good & plenty of parking.
I would definitely come back here again in the future. Kudos to Mr. S for showing me this place even though things didn’t work out.

Cute place! I agree that it is reaaaaaaaaaaallly crowded here so if you want to enjoy a great cabin like ambiance here’s the place to go. Didn’t feel like I was in California! However if you want to practice tricks and speed another rink will be much better. Wish I went here while they still had the tree up!

I took my daughter to Ice Skate during open skating on ½/14 — awful… way, way too many people allowed on the ice at one time. Difficult to move around the rink and spent most of our time avoiding being run into by young kids and teenagers.

This all-year around outdoor ice skating lodge is a hidden gem! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I booked my daughter’s birthday party here and it was complete success! Everyone had a great time. I booked a few months in advance because time slots book so quickly. I visited the lodge both during the day and night — such a prettier and festive experience at night time.
While there are plenty of tables and seating around the rink, I opted to book a few tables right in front of the fire place. Beautiful christmas trees and lights surrounding the rink. No deposit was required. You are able to bring your own food and drinks — no alcohol. They have hot chocolate machines, but that is pretty much it.
Starbucks is around the corner. I ordered in advance and picked up large coffee boxes and hot water for hot cocoa. I also brought finger foods and ordered a few pizzas the day of from Papa Johns which is nearby.
Everyone had a wonderful time. Party times are booked for 2-hour time slots which was plenty of time. The lodge itself is cozy, super clean and well taken care of. At the end of the night they have fake snow coming down which was a great way to end the night.

Perfect date place. Interior looks like a camping lodge w/fire. Skating rink is a little small but who cares you aren’t training for the Olympics. They maintain the rink very well and they have «fake snow» bubbles. It’s fun. These places don’t have public skating ²⁴⁄₇ so check the website for the right times.

I feel like I am in a Norman Rockwell painting every time I come here. It may not be a venue for an Olympian but it is a wonderful place for families, teens, and couples (on adult skate nights). Love the fireplaces, picnic tables, Christmas tree. It’s a popular place to book parties but I think you have to line up before sunrise on the day the bookings start.
One star off because I agree with the Dad below about the ice skating lessons and the report cards. It’s been many years, so not sure if they still do that. I remember that awkward moment when my daughter and her friends got their pass/fail cards. The ones that passed had to hide their joy, and the ones that failed had to suppress their tears. We were all just trying to do a fun activity together :-(Hope they email the results now. I think that would help.

This place is great. It has been there forever and is very well kept up. The staff is friendly and helpful even when an old man like me falls on the ice and can’t get up.
Our daughter took lessons here and they were very accommodating when our originally scheduled lesson time became and issue and moved her into another class without a lot of issues. She had a blast learning to skate and now says that it is her favorite sport. We held her 8^th birthday party here and we had a blast. The price was reasonable given the number of skaters we had and how well kept the facilities were.

How fun! This place is tiny, but oh so very cute. Came here recently with a decent sized group (10 – 15 people) and the cost is reasonable ($ 8 + $ 4 skate rental) if you do a group deal (which is what we got). Their skates are in surprisingly good condition (one of the best rentals I’ve seen). They have a great fireplace inside to sit around when you get cold and there are two rinks (I’ve only been in one… the one with the Christmas tree in the middle).
The public session is two hours and they zamboni every hour, which is definitely nice. There are some really intense people to watch out for though… people who like speed/spinning/jumping (which can be incredibly intimidating, especially when you suck at ice skating like I do). It does get a little crowded, but there are areas to sit/rest all around the rink (inside and outside). Seems like a great place for group events. The rink also is much better maintained than some of the other places (doesn’t get torn up like some of the public places like in Union Square, etc.).
SUPER cute date place though; great if you want your date to hang on for dear life as you show them how pro you are at ice skating ^.^ Not so great if both of you suck though HA HA. Being bad at ice skating is always a great excuse to grab that cute guy’s hand though *hint hint* :D

I’ve been meaning to take the family to Winter Lodge for years now. We finally got the chance on Christmas eve eve.
They don’t have the largest rink out there; not by a long shot, but they do have other offerings you don’t see elsewhere:
– The rink itself is outdoors; One of the few in the bay area
– Rink-side fireplaces for warming your tush on those cold days/nights
– Well-maintained equipment (my rental skates were SHARP and made skating that much easier)
– A welcoming, friendly staff
Right after we put on our skates, there was a sudden, large influx of college students. This put a slight downer on the things, making the rink a bit too crowded (plus, a few inebriated sorts were attempting to crash into friends for the fun of it). There was also zero room to sit by the outdoor fires.
But this seemed to be an anomaly. My wife had a big grin on her face (reliving her college days in New Hampshire I suspect); My daughters LOVED the place, and who am I to argue with them?
