Description

Specialties

A healing center in midtown Palo Alto, we offer many levels of traditional hatha yoga, as well as meditation and breathwork. We also have a fantastic facility to relax and refresh in; a lounge with tea and fruit, spa-quality restrooms with showers and lockers, and a huge boutique filled with a variety of clothing, jewelry, yoga supplies, bath and body items, as well as beverages and light snacks. Over the coming months as we grow, look for workshops, lectures, movies as well as our world-class teacher-training to begin later this year.

History

Established in 2012.

After many years of teaching in the Bay Area and Europe, John Berg’s dream was realized when Samyama Yoga Center opened its doors. SYC is a cutting-edge, purpose built facility that honors traditional Hatha yoga.

As the studio was taking shape John gathered a team of the best and brightest Bay Area instructors and management staff. From the beginning Samyama’s intention has been to create community. The calibre of instruction and the attention to detail provided by management have created the space for community to happen.

Samyama’s faculty include John Berg, Anirudh Shastri, Louis Jackson, Mimm Patterson, Amy Rogg, Lindsay Amrein, Hillary Easom, Anfisa Maksimyuk and Cheryl Hse.

SYC’s General Manager is Lourdes Hui. Michelle Booth manages the operations team and the gorgeous ground floor boutique.

Business Owner

Behind John Berg’s quirky sense of humor lurks a pure heart and giving spirit. A teacher for many years — as well as a teacher of teachers — John is known throughout the Bay Area as a passionate, committed and unconventional yogi with a child-like enthusiasm for the art and practice of yoga.

John credits his teacher Ben Thomas for his sound understanding of alignment principles and his grounding in the foundations of yoga. John’s approach to teaching has been influenced by his work with Erich Schiffman and Max Strom.
