Waited two and a half hours for an oil change with an appointment. And didn’t have windshield wipers they said was in stock over the phone. Not good.

Made an appointment for 10 am and was under the impression an oil change would not take much time at all. The whole point of the appointment system is so you skip the wait. It has now been 2 hours and still waiting. My car is still where I parked it. so much for their «express services» on things like oil changes. If I knew it would take this long I would have had someone pick me up. Try telling your customers the real time they will be waiting!!! Never again.

Came for steering inspection and was told that the wait would be several hours long and that I should make an appointment. I made the earliest appointment the next day, show up, and am told that there will be a long wait, even though I had an appointment! What is the point of making an appointment then? I have been waiting for 1.5 hours and am still waiting. I’m sitting next to someone who had the same experience, and this is the fourth time he’s been back!

So I called to ask about getting a tire balanced. The guy on the phone (didn’t catch his name) was friendly and informative. When I arrive and ask about getting my tire balanced, I am met with another guy who was somewhat rude and impatient. No– I don’t think that my tire or car needs all this extra and expensive sounding things you are trying to upsell me for… The guy on the phone said I would wait 30 minutes and spend $ 15 balancing one tire. This guy tells me 1 hour minimum and $ 20. He is also suggesting that maybe I need a new tire or my suspension is cracked etc. I left and went to Firestone. They were friendly, hassle free and cheaper too! $ 13 for a tire rotation and prompt, clean and professional service! I can see why pep boys isn’t as busy at Firestone– they lack the service, professionalism, honestly and integrity of the competition! I will not return for service!

Have had a few bad experiences w/​this location… felt compelled to write this review after one too many bad experiences w/​them.
Few months ago check Engine light was on my vehicle… they wanted $ 100 to «diagnose» it… I asked them if they diagnosed it and I authorize the subsequent repair will that charge be deducted… they said no. I wasn’t happy with this but agreed to move forward with the diagnostic. They told me the error code (cylinder misfire) but said they didn’t know how to resolve the issue because it wasn’t happening at that time (didn’t even remove the check engine light on dash). So they charged me $ 100 to tell them they don’t know how to fix my car and I left there w/​the light still on and out $ 100. I went on Amazon and paid $ 45 for this same tool (OBD II for anyone else who doesn’t want to get ripped off by Pep Boys again) and it took 45 seconds for me to find out the issue w/​my car. Took it to the dealership and they fixed it. This is a horrible business practice by Pep Boys. I can see if you don’t move forward w/​the repair that they should charge you this fee but if you pay them to fix the car this fee should be deducted — it literally takes less than a minute to plug this tool in right under the steering wheel. Most importantly if they are not capable of fixing the car why should they charge you to «diagnose» it?
Most recent issue was this weekend… made an «appointment» online for 4 new tires… and an alignment. Dropped car off at 9:45…called at 1:30 not ready (told would be ready in 30 minutes and they would call me). At 3pm … still no call… called AGAIN and was told car is ready. Horrible customer service… why make an appointment when it’s not committed to?!
Drove the car this morning to my job … car is pulling left still … obviously they never did the alignment. Called and explained the situation to them. was asked when I could bring the car back… said not until I was off work later but I would only be able to leave the car for a few hours and needed it fixed tonight … he said I needed to call back later and see if they had time to «accommodate» me. What a joke.
Bottom line — take your business elsewhere.

What can I say, I made an appointment on line to have 4 new tires installed with alignment, but knew it would not be honored. 1pm appointment, got there at 12:40, car entered the bay 1:40, sat for another 30 mins before anyone worked on it. was done by 4pm. My time waiting, I did not hear one good work about the place. I was impressed when first walking in, but as time went on, I could see all aspects of this Pep Boys was not customer orientated. no cashier, people waiting for someone to show up; parts counter people just standing/​sitting around; and the service, well if they know it is going to be a long time in serving a car, they should let the customer know; I even ask, will this take long, if you are busy I can come back tomorrow. I was told no we can get you in soon, yea soon. I usually patron the pine brook pepboys, but the did not have my tires in stock, those guys seem to have their act together, plus a lot more friendlier. it is a good thing I only have to deal with this once every two years. I learned a long time ago, you don’t go to these places, not just pepboys, but other chain service centers like this and have your car repaired. sick with you local mechanics. While waiting, I brought up this parsippany pepboys, they got a 1.5 star rating, not very good. The pine brook one got 4 stars. I gave it 2 stars only because I felt bad for the service manager, he puts up with a lot of stuff, and gets no support from anyone… people just standing around and he had to ask one of his assistant to assist a customer, and the guy seemed like really this is not my job, so that is the feeling I got. my car also was returned dirty in and out.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. The people at the tire and service desk are rude in the first place. I had to get 4 tires changed and it took 3 and a half hours to get it done. At about 2 hours in I asked how much longer and the guy at the desk said it’ll be done soon without even bothering to check. I would have easily rather spent more money and went somewhere else. Should have looked at the reviews before I came here.

Been a customer for quite some time. Couldn’t complain until recent events. Went in to change our summer to winter tires. Dropped them off and was told it will take 2 hours. Called 2 hours later, I was put on hold for service desk. They never picked up. Called 2 hours later, same hold and no one picked up. This has happened before. I know how busy service desk can get. i was out already doing errands so I dropped by to see status. Waited in line. There was only one service manager working. The other service manager, joe, strolled in. Joe went to check on my job. He looked in the system and said he was not sure. He went to the bay and came back 5 mins later doing something else. Then he went back to the bay without telling me anything. I looked in the bay and my tires were ready. I waited at the counter for another 5 mins, no joe, so I had to ask the other service manager. He asked if joe is helping me. I have NO CLUE what joe was doing. Joe came out without a care in the world because I was being helped.
Very disappointed in lack of professionalism and courtesy.

went to see why my son’s steering wheel was shaking and without road testing car they told us he needed 4 struts and 4 tires plus alignment and balancing and it would cost $ 2,400 or more minimum, when we said we were not spending that amount on a ten yr old car the worker THREW THE KEYS AT MY SON ! and walked away as if to say ” screw you”
got a second REAL mechanic to test drive and diagnose and it we were flat out lied to ! the REAL mechanic fixed it all for less then ¼ of the PEP BOYS quote ! WE are reporting them to Dept of Consumer Affairs, the Better Business Bureau and saying it here… STAY AWAY ! this place treats you like you’re an idiot and tries to scare you into repairs you don’t need. they should be fined and investigated for price gouging, fraud, and consumer cruelty ! we are going to do everything we can to see that this place gets legally inspected and dealt with justly, they are” thieves ” and not qualified to repair cars. never ever trust and PEP BOYS ! ANYWHERE.

Bad customer service. Tried to rip me off. Made an online appointment to get my tire, fixed (I had a nail on it) but the appointment wasn’t in their system. After about 40 minutes wait at their dusty waiting area with a smell of tires, I was told my tire can’t be repaired and I needed to replace two tires. I asked why two tires then they said that’s because my car was all wheel drive and required them for balance. My car was a brand new, purchased in December 2014 so all the tires were original with only 7900 miles on them. I left of course. I will not recommend this shop.

Fixed my car all well and good! They Were not very respectful got grease all over the interior of my car they didn’t even tell me my car was finished I had to get up and ask them. I would not recommend them well not this particular one anyway!

This is the work place ever. They had to do few jobs on my car and none of them was done properly.
To start with i had to change rim on one of the tire because it was bent and my steering wheel was shacking. I paid expedite shipping to get rim on time. It usually takes 2 days to get here told by mechanic who was attending me. When i went to pick up my car after 3 days because they could not prepare it on time. Initially i was told that it will be ready with in 2 days.
Next morning to work i found my car was still shaking on higher speed. so i decide to check what’s wrong with the tire and that old bent rim was there. It was not replaced.
I went back that evening ask mechanic there that i paid for rim and it was not installed on car. He went to check in back and brought new rim that suppose to get installed on car and i was so mad when i was picking up car why nobody even bother telling me that rim is not installed yet and i have to come back.
Asking few more questions i found out that they did not get rim on the time and i paid expedite shipping for no reason they charge me $ 20 for shipping and did not get on time. Are you guys kidding me.
I doubt that even other services that i asked for was even performed on the card.
Advise, Make sure you check you car when you get back from them and make sure everything that you asked for has been done properly

Again the «appointment» making online doesn’t seem to make a bit of difference. The excuse given was that the appointment program online doesn’t work with their system and my oil change would have a 2 hour wait. Don’t even know why I bother to continue to come here. Poor customer service and very unempathetic employees who don’t care that you made an appointment but now you are considered a walk-​in. Don’t bother giving them your business unless you have a whole day to spare or you are stuck on the side of the road.

STAY AWAY! Would not even purchase a light bulb here. Wasted more then half a day here waiting for my vehicle. Was told car needed just a belt, waited & part was ordered, then when part arrived was told I needed another part and they could not get it till the following day. Why wasn’t this found on initial «diagnosis». PATHETIC. And for the people in the Service Dept. answering phones holy cow do they need training HORRENDOUS.

Stay away! Never even stepping foot in this store ever again. Where do I even begin .let me start at the service department .I went the day prior to make an appointment. they took my name and made a time for me. but didn’t ask what needed to be done to the car. which I thought was alittle odd. when I showed up there was never an appointment in the system… hum.okay.next .I told the service manager I had my own parts and right after that he charges me for parts .did he think I wasn’t going to realize it ??? His excuse was he was overwhelmed. yeahhhh Iam sure… he had horrible customer service and had no phone skills. I was so annoyed. Pep boys never has any *scion* products like they do for ford and mopar and Honda sweatshirts …so I never find anything in that department. Learned my lesson should have went to the real mechanic who put my TRD suspension in but I thought this simple job of replacing spark plugs would have been simple enough for pep boys. apparently not.

Just go somewhere else. Poor service, not friendly. Asked for help to find correct wiper blade. Employee went and got it for me after I found it in a booklet near the blades. But they don’t carry the brand in the booklet! He found one, another brand. Got home and found it was the wrong size! Also be aware the prices for batteries is after the $ 15 credit for returning the old battery. 39.95 will be charged 54.95.

What an exceptional experience. No, ‘what’s in it for me’ with this business.
We had a situation where my 20 year old Son had his engine seize up, and Mike, Gus and the team at the Parsippany Pep Boys guided us to a soft landing. One that was best for our Family, not just for Pep Boys.
These guys are trustworthy, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is not an expert mechanic, and needs something maintained on their vehicle.

I don’t know why this place is getting such low reviews I brought my car in for a oil change and two tires when I was talking to the pepboys service they told me that it would take two and a half hours to get my car done and it took 3 hours highly professional people behind the desk had no issues with my car afterwards will come back again

Do not come in here for an oil change! I’ve read previous bad reviews about pep boys, but I thought, it’s a big company; they are bound to get complaints. I would try this place since it was convenient. I came in for an oil change last week and afterwards my check engine light went on. I went to a different mechanic and he found the oil was really low! I can’t believe they messed up on a simple oil change. I sure wouldn’t trust them to handle more complicated issues with my car.

Worse than Jiffy Lube and STS, if that’s even possible. Workers are lazy and have no knowledge of the cars they are working on. They can’t even run a diagnostic correctly (had to run one twice on my car to confirm the issue with my car was my starter, which I had told them when I first came in. Then tried charging me twice for a diagnostic!) The radio and lights were still functioning correctly on my car, yet this bozo ripped out my battery. I asked him to replace that for free, which he did. Be aggressive and don’t let them take advantage of you.
A two year old probably has more knowledge of cars than they do.
