David Cutter, a unique teacher with almost thirty years of experience, offers four specailites in addition to private and small group instruction and regular recitals.

Multi Piano Ensembles-​Imagine ten hands playing five pianos. All five pianists read their own individual part from a five part music score.

Piano Clubs-​Bring your friends and start a piano club. Whether you want to read together or polish and perfect a piece for performance. Piano students finally get to enjoy the piano as a social experience.

Private and Small Group Instruction Features the Well Prepared Pianist Curriculum-​This is the most complete piano methodology available today and contains etudes, drills and classic teaching repertoire written by the great composers.

Adult Piano Salons-​A place for adults to perform in a more informal setting. David and a small group of students perform and discuss their work which supports student growth over many performances.

David welcomes students of all ages, beginner to advanced, classical to jazz. Studying with David, all students will learn little known skills that lead to piano magic.

History

Established in 1984.

David Cutter Piano started when he began performing as a pianist. David also taught as a classroom teacher for twenty years and then started teaching piano privately in 2006. After years of formal classical training at the university level, decades of jazz study, years of teaching and hard work, he has learned many of the secrets to playing the piano. David shares this rich oral tradition with his students.

Coming from a lineage of great teachers, David knows how to listen and how to assess what a student needs to progress. He discovers what works for a particular student and customizes lessons accordingly to increase student motivation.

Continuing to perform and teach every day, David has brought the joy of music to thousands of people. He is dedicated to preserving the knowledge of how to play the piano and the oral tradition that’s come down from many teachers to the present. No amount of technology can replace the effectiveness of an oral transfer of this knowledge.

Business Owner

David teaches a complete musical foundation using Steinway’s method of choice, the Well Prepared Pianist curriculum. With thirty years of teaching experience, wrist movement, theory, ear training and more, students develop artistry, enjoyment and love for the piano.

Coming from a university level piano major, David performs both classical music and jazz regularly around Los Angeles. He has been a solo pianist at many hotels including the Los Angeles Biltmore and the Westin in Pasadena. David was also a classroom teacher for twenty years and then started teaching private piano. During this time David has continued classical and jazz studies as well as performing both classical and jazz music. Discovering the Well Prepared Pianist curriculum led to a renewed instensity and an opportunity to study privately with it’s composer, author and Steinway Artist N. Jane Tan.
