History

Established in 1986.

VST was started by David Segimoto in 1986 when AKAI closed its Regional Service Center. The company was formed to create an AKAI Service Center in the greater Los Angeles area. Although originally located in Alhambra, expansion of the business caused a move to its Pasadena location in 1991. Since its formation, VST has expanded the expertise of its technicians to include products from various manufacturers. The company is currently a warranty authorized service center for Teac/​Tamscam™, Roland™, Fender™, JBL™, Soundcraft™, Allen & Heath™, Korg™, Rane™, Kawai™, Vestax™, Yamaha™, AKAI™, and many more. Our staff members have been trained by manufacturers such as Alesis™, AKAI, Roland, and JBL in order to better service machines produced by those companies. I really wish I had read the reviews before going here. My drum machine was damaged by the post office so I took it to them for a quote. I waited over 4 months for the post office to pay me out. VST had my machine for around two months sitting on a rack. After I called to give them the okay to start repairs they say they no longer have the parts available (side panels, disc drive). Then I asked how much they would charge to clean the inside of the machine out. They said «when we open it up to change the pads we will clean it while we’re in there.» Which means they nevr even opened the machine up! So I was charged $ 75.00 for 2.5 hours of labor. Labor that they never did. That really sucks because it took me literally 3 minutes to find a compatible disc drive for $ 75 bucks and wooden side panels for $ 110. Seriously? I would understand $ 25 or even $ 30 for storage while I waited for the post office to pay me out. But $ 75, that just no cool dudes.

Very unhappy with the cost of repair. Quoted for a 2 hour repair. When I gave the go ahead, they phoned back in 20 minutes to say it was ready. Still charged me for 2 hours. I feel conned, and will take my business elsewhere.

Brought in my bass amp for a quick repair of the input. They didn’t get around to it. Spent a month waiting while I had to borrow other bass amps for gigs. Complete waste of time.

I am a current resident DJ in the OC and we always have gear that get dropped, spilled on, or damaged in someway. When I need something repaired, I always bring it to my friends at VST, I have had reliable and fast service for as long as I can remember.
Simple prices, fast service, and super friendly staff, I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my club’s equipment.

Run away from this place. I had my tubes Bias and now 4 weeks later there is crackling in my amp off the low end strings of my guitar! A brand new Line 6 DT50. The guy must just use electrical spray on everything because my amped smelled as soon as I turned it on. Really, that is going to work on a brand new amp. Don’t waste your time, money, or breathe talking to them.

Lousy! Brought a mostly-​working amp in for repair. Paid for «expedite service». They were unable to fix it (could only replace it) and returned it missing screws, knobs hanging, etc. When I went back to have things put back together correctly, they tried to claim I took all the screws out and lost them! They finally agreed to put them back in while I waited. 20 minutes later I get the amp back only to find that they didn’t bother putting any screws in at all — they glued the knobs on! Now, the amp can’t possibly be repaired without damaging things! What unprofessional jerks!

Went there there after seeing them listed as authorized service center for my amp. Realized that this place screwed up a repair on another amp I brought in about 4 years ago (that’s another story). Nevertheless figure I’ll try them again… So I go in and mention I spoke with someone earlier and try to tell the guy writing my repair order what was discussed. He says something like «it doesn’t matter, we will figure it out», with a bit of attitude. Strike 1. Then I ask how long is the turnaround time and he say’s «something like 5 days or something like that, maybe». So I ask is it within 5 days or more than 5 days as I think this is important when you need your gear. He replies «well maybe we can get it on the bench in 5 days». Again, I’m getting maybe’s, and nothing a little more solid. Strike 2. So I said «Look if you can get give me something more specific like, we will get to it within 5, not «we might», then I ‘d try them again. So I tell him forget it I’m going somewhere else to which he replies, «I’ll guarantee a it within that time frame for an extra $ 75». Strike 3. I drove 12 miles for this lousy customer service? You guys stink!

I recently used this facility to repair two malfunctioning keys on an 88 «weighted key» keyboard.
After declining a full repair and paying them their estimate fee of thirty dollars, I brought the keyboard to a jam session. To my surprise the keyboard modulation wheel was stuck at max and the keyboard was in
a transposed key. I brought the keyboard back to be put back into normal working condition. They did, but I thought it would be reasonable to ask for the original thirty dollar «repair estimate fee» to be refunded to me considering they cost me some time and gas expense (not to mention loading and unloading my very heavy keyboard). When I asked for a refund as a courtesy, I was treated in a condescending manner (and hung up on by the owner). I guess their time is worth money but mine isn’t? Mind you, I’m not saying you will have the bad experience I did, but I figure posting this online could be helpful to someone considering using them for the first time.

DO NOT bring any equipment to this place, they suck royal dick. I took my amp here about 9 months ago because of sudden jumps in volume. They told me it was faulty wiring, fixed it, and for a couple of months it was fine. Then, when I started to experience the exact problem they said they had replaced the faulty wire with another faulty wire by mistake. It was fixed again and then 7 months go bye and wouldn’t you know it, I’m experiencing the same problem with the amp. When I take it there, I explain the situation to the guy at the front desk, who clearly didn’t care and just reminded me that the warranty is no longer in effect and that they can take a look, for a price. The next day someone calls me and tells me that the amp is working fine. I go there and the amp is working, but the problem was sporadic to begin with which I tell the guy. Instead of listening, he explains how the volume control works in a condescending manner. I ask him if they checked the wiring and he just replies that they couldn’t find a problem with it. What’s funny is that when I dropped the amp off the third time I overheard someone in line telling them he was bringing back his equipment to be «re-​repaired» with a story almost identical to mine. My amp still isn’t working properly, only now I’m out several hundred bucks.
