Edward Barton, MD

Dr Barton is everything you want in a physician and more. I speak from experience, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010. Since then, I’ve seen more than my fair share of neurologists. Dr Barton is exceptional. He is attentive, patient, informative and open to new approaches. His staff is friendly, helpful and efficient.
I’m grateful that I finally found a neurologist to explain my condition in direct terms without condescension. He makes me feel like a person with a manageable condition instead of a disease to be treated, and he can even make me laugh.

Dr. Barton came very highly recommended to me when I came down with a numb chin syndrome. He was extremely attentive, professional and proactive. His staff set up an urgent MRI for me, as he wanted to rule out a mass. Once the MRI was complete, Dr. Barton called with results within an hour, as he remained in touch with the radiologist. He did not take a minute longer than necessary to deliver the good news that all scans came back clean. Dr. Barton is compassionate and very knowledgeable. He explained all the different diagnosis possibilities, without alarming me (I became alarmed all on my own via google). Thank you Dr. Barton for taking such good care of your patients.

I would recommend Dr Barton and his office to anyone looking for a great nuerologist. His staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Dr Barton gave me his full time and attention while meeting with him and talked clearly about tests and solutions. He is very funny and straight forward with you which I appreciate. He and his staff has been very helpfull to me and therefore I would without a doubt recommend people to come see for themselves.

About 5 years ago, my primary physician ordered an EMG, which was performed by a doctor who I now realize was not highly skilled in the procedure (which I did not recognize at the time and blamed the test). It was such a frightening, horrible, torturous and painful experience that I walked out crying and traumatized, swearing to NEVER, EVER, have an EMG done again! Fast forward 5 years and I needed to have another EMG study done. My current physician suggested that I have Dr. Barton do the testing and told me he was very gentle. I tossed and turned the night before the appointment. I walked into the office with sweaty palms and a pounding heart. I was nervous and terrified of the anticipated pain.
From the time I entered the door until I left the office after the procedure, I was put at ease. I was greeted by a very helpful, understanding and friendly front office staff who assured me again that Dr. Barton was very gentle and kind. His credentials were impeccable. Dr. Barton was prompt and friendly. He listened carefully to my past history and had reviewed the current MRI reports I brought with me before he saw me. He listened to and understood my reluctance and fear of the test, based on my past experience. He explained that he used the minimum amount of stimulation to the nerve necessary to achieve the results. He explained his technique. The stimulation he used felt more like a little pressure massage than a bolt of lightening! It was not at all unpleasant or painful! Wow. I relaxed and the testing went by quickly and efficiently. He answered all of my questions. The testing was a breeze.
I was impressed by the entire experience, start to finish, particularly by Dr. Barton. Thank you for showing me what a difference can be made by seeing a well regarded, highly educated, knowledgeable, intuitive and caring physician!

I have been going to Dr Barton for over a year now because of a head injury. From the moment I walked in I have felt heard, safe and respected by him as well as the staff. Service with a smile! Workers Comp is a nightmare to deal with and they have done their best to help me within these constraints. I do know that Dr B cares and hears his patients. This office is very efficient, helpful and on time with appointments too! I would gladly recommend West Coast Neurology to anyone.

I have been a patient of Dr. Barton’s for over a year now and I am quite grateful to him and his staff. I have seen several neurologists over the years and so I expected my first appointment to be the same as all the other who told me I had nerve damage but they had no idea why. Imagine my amazement when Dr. Barton not only recognized the cause but also had the latest available treatment to recommend! Of couse, said treatment is expensive and my insurance doesn’t want to pay for it. Not only Dr. Barton, but everyone on his staff, has worked tirelessly to get my treatment authorized. Every time Blue Cross tries to pull the authorization he is on the phone or submitting the latest paperwork they require and his staff is on top of everyone involved in the treatment process. I have never had a doctor work so hard and stay so diligent to see that I had the best treatment available. If not for Dr. Barton, I would still be trying to figure out what was happening to me and why. I recommend him highly.

Everyone from the receptionist, billing to the doctor are extremely friendly. I was seen by the doctor very quickly. I found Doctor Barton and it’s like a dream come true! Knocking out two doctor visits at once, that also helps save co pay money for those who need to pay a co pay. Thanks to the staff at West Coast Neurology! I found this place on Unilocal and the reviews are spot on. I suffer from horrible migraines. I ended up in the hospital and actually referred to another neurologist. God works in his own way and after having a nightmare of a time dealing with hospitals recommendation I called Doctor Barton.
It was incredible how friendly and efficient this office is. I did all my forms online and was checked in and seen by the doctor in less than 25 minutes. Doctor Barton is very knowledgeable and he diagnosed my migraine pain and set out an understandable plan for recovery.
Thanks again for the compassionate treatment and I would most definitely recommend.

My experience at Dr. Barton’s office was fantastic. He’s incredibly knowledgeable & he spends time with each patient as if we’re family. He’s also very prompt & punctual, which is hard to find at a physician’s office!

Dr. Barton and staff were very courteous with me. He took his time to explain things to me. They answered all my questions and helped me get well. I was able to get an appointment when someone cancelled. His staff went the extra mile by notifying me of this. All other neurologists told me to call back every day. Thank you Dr. Barton and staff.

Dr. Barton is highly educated, knowledgable, and professional. Each time in the office, he has greeted me with a smile, and has always been extremely courteous. Dr. Barton’s staff is also very friendly and helpful! He stays up to date on all of the new information, and it is obvious that he takes great care and pride in the work he does everyday with his patients!

Went with my father for a consult. Although a seemingly pleasant individual and respectful as far as coming out, shaking our hands offering water and even walking us out when we were done, that is only a small part of a consultation.
In his office, he clearly did not read all the tests and previous documents that we submitted. Cervical became thoracic and vice versa. He counted on his fingers in front of us to determine dermatomal distributions of nerves and what muscles they supplied. He would often stop us in middle of our explanations and discussions so he could type his notes in (that’s not right nor professional).
Too many doctors take so little time and he was one of them. He didn’t really understand the problem and tested reflexes while my father sat in a desk chair. He didn’t assess much nor did he make my father stand or walk.
To be honest, he reminded us a lot of someone who just came out of residency and decided to open a practice on their own. Clearly, especially in a field like neurology, that is not the best way to go. The experience was comical and a waste of our time.
I’d recommend someone older with much more experience. Dr. Barton has much more learning to do and would benefit from working with a seasoned neurologist as opposed to going solo so soon.

UPDATE: Dr. Barton, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. As mentioned in my review, I always thought you did have good etiquette as far as being respectful and walking us in. However, the comment about you seeming right out of residency was NOT in reference to your looks and was our honest opinion of how we felt the consult went. The comment in regards to not being thorough with our submitted documents was accurate. It was not you simply trying to find out more details. I cannot say why our experience was the way it was, but it was our experience and based on that, we left this review with our opinion.

I have loved coming to see Dr. Barton. I have really found him to be the best doctor I have ever worked with over the years. Dr. Barton and the whole staff that works here are incredibly courteous and always take the time to get to know you by name. It is always easy to schedule an appointment with him, which is SO important. You can truly see that he cares about each and every one of his patients. I’m so grateful to have found him via great Unilocal reviews!

Dr. Barton is brilliant and has excellent bed-​side manner. Dr. Barton was very thorough with his diagnostic testing and answering my many many questions. Specifically, he spent an hour and a half with me on my initial consultation which is not my normal experience with a physician, let alone a specialist. Dr. Barton spent the extra time with me and was able to accurately diagnose my situation which has helped me with my rehabilitation strategy as 50% or spine surgeries are unsuccessful due to lack of proper diagnostic testing. Additionally, he advised me on my treatment regiment keeping in mind long-​term benefit for me. He suggested that I not have a surgical procedure which was recommended by another physician, and go the natural route, however a longer recovery — but provides the best long-​term outcome according to case studies. Our health is the most important thing we have. Without good health we cannot provide for or spend time with our loved ones. Keep in mind doctors work for you, the patient. You are not just another number to Dr. Barton.

As a Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Barton is my go-​to neurologist to refer patients and family members. He is an extremely Kind, Compassionate and COMPETENT doctor, who has been known to have a 6^th sense in his field. Our mutual patients rave about him, the ladies often asking whether he is married and that he must be a dream husband based on his chair-​side manner. He respects the scope of his profession, refers accordingly, and is often the gatekeeper of patient records with high satisfaction from patients and referring-​doctors. Bottom line, Dr. Barton exceeds expectations. I highly recommend Dr. Barton and his staff to patients and fellow referring doctors.

After having difficulty getting in to see my old neurologist, I switched to Dr. Barton who was willing to sneak me in for an urgent appointment right away. He spent a very long time meeting with me, assessing my condition, and providing me with treatment options. He was thorough and highly knowledgeable. Unlike many other neurologists I have seen, he made me feel validated regarding my cognitive impairment and chronic migraines rather than minimizing my condition. I highly recommend seeing Dr. Barton if you are looking for a compassionate and competent neurologist.

I didn’t see Dr. Barton I saw Dr. Patel whom I was highly impressed with. She is very knowledgeable, professional and also very nice. I had never had a physician come and get me from the waiting room, I was shocked! She was very thorough in her exam and in talking to me to get the backstory on what happened to me. I would definitely recommend her to anyone needing to see a neurologist.

Brilliant Doctor! He was the 7^th doctor I went to trying to find out what was wrong with me. Spent thousands in ER, other neurologists, etc. Each one had a different opinion /​guess and none rang true. I thought I would try one last doc before I gave up with no answers and miserable. I researched the net. Between other Unilocal reviews and the double degree figured it was my best and last shot at finding an answer. Within 15 minutes he was able to figure out what was wrong. I was in tears and thanked him profusely. He belongs in the genius level doctor class. If i had gone there first I would have saved myself thousands of dollars and countless hours of agony but I am in LA and did not know about him until I researched.

Amazing! Went to see Dr. Barton for Auras with slight migraines. First off the staff Rachel and Jessica are very courteous and helpful! As for Dr. B he basically takes his time allows you to detail what’s going on and provides a step by step process that needs to be done! I’m thankful I left my previous garbage Neurologist and came to Dr. B, apparently she wasn’t even schooled in EEG, she just went as far as what she knows! Dr. B has a degree in EEG and also went to a great school. He orders a EEG because he want happy with the previous one and luckily all came out positive! Just have to take some Maxalt as needed basis. No seizures present all is well! Highly recommend him and his staff. Amazing!

Wow what a courteous doctor!!! Polite, knowledgable and kind. He walked out of the office to greet me in person, offered water bottle and did a thorough exam.
I saw so many awards on his wall from Standford, top doctor of Pasadena etc, impressive. Like other Unilocalers says, he actually listens and communicates well :)

Came by to see Dr Bartok for neurological concerns. He is not only very personable, he spends lots of time with each of his patients and doesn’t even go to lunch just so he can make sure to take care of all who need his help. He is super friendly. He very patient, understanding and extremely knowledgeable. A true professional with excellent bedside manner. I would highly recommend him for anyone that needs a neuro script.
