Our technicians have many years of experience and are professional and honest. There is no benefit to us if your car fails a test. Legally we are unable to recommend a repair shop if your car fails, but we have a list of repair stations we can provide you with.

Express came highly recommended from my regular mechanic for an annual smog check. What would typically be a routine and uninteresting experience, proved to be anything but. Nick was very helpful on the phone, very enthusiastic, friendly & speedy with the service and very helpful afterwards recommending how to most easily pay my DMV fees. I appreciate how quickly I was seen and smogged (under 15 minutes!) but please, do not try to tell me that you told me to specifically do something when, in fact, you did NOT.
I explicitly asked twice that day to be clear, when I got smogged, if I needed to take the certificate to the DMV myself or mail it in. I was told reassuringly that «it was all taken care of, don’t need to do anything else.» The mechanic explained that the proof was sent electronically to the DMV. I see how this was my fault, to assume that it actually was «taken care of»…
However, it would be nice to have been told what the mechanic «always tells every customer to do,» which is to follow up on the smog certification with the DMV within 30 days of the smog test and if nothing has been sent, to handle it through DMV or AAA (if you have it). When I called to follow up, about 4 weeks after the smogging was done, I got an EAR-​FULL of his slight chastisement that I didn’t take his advice (which he did not give ME, though I’m sure he gave to other customers).
Overall, my experience was pretty good but slightly frustrating with the misunderstanding.
My advice:
If you visit for a smog, this is an excellent way to get it done fast and for a good price, but do make an appointment with the DMV (or visit AAA) immediately after to just square things away without finding out 4 weeks later that things didn’t go through (which is NOT the fault of the Express Smog Test Only guys, but rather a fault with the DMV’s system). Follow the advice of the mechanic guy and ensure (yourself!) that it got sent to the DMV.

After reading all of the reviews on here, I actually ran a stopwatch on my phone from the moment I handed him my keys to when I got them back. 8 minutes. Yes, 8 minutes. This is while he was simultaneously working on a truck. For $ 40 out the door (including online submission of the smog certificate) it’s great.
Probably easiest to get in here while driving north on Allen.

Much like the other Unilocalers here, I found Vick and his crew a wonderful, courteous bunch. Plus, he’s a charming, engaging character (think Mr. Artunyan from the Steve Martin film The Jerk). In any event, I had my smog test done in 10 minutes — very reasonable cost — he has my highest recommendation.

There is not much more I can add to the previous reviews, except to say that Vick is professional, courteous, speedy, competitive in pricing, and a pleasure to do business with. I have been to Express Smog twice, once with a friend, and a second time with my own car, and both times the whole process didn’t take more than ten minutes!
Kind of hidden behind the Valero gas station, but well worth checking out– Express Smog is simply the best

Smoooooooth. If u are like me and are fed up with Run-​Arounds then the extra $ 10 for a simple smog check here is WELL WORTH IT! Went to the place down the street from me – «Machines broken» then another shop on Altadena Dr. – «Let me call the guy who does the checks…».
EXPRESS SMOG WAS FAST AND PROFESSIONAL.
If you’re tired of spending $ 30 worth of your time to save $ 10, only to be frustrated, then this is your place.
The whole procedure took only 15 minutes. Nice!

If you want an excellent job done, go see Vick. He was extremely cordial and professional. He explained all the steps and actions to take to get my registration done (even though It’s provided on my DMV form), but best of all, he only took 15mins and charged me 50 bucks!!! The price may vary based on vehicle size. I definitely will be going back to see him the next time the state decides to loot my wallet.
And boy, do I love being called «Sir.»

I have used this smog test center twice now, and I will continue to return. Vick is very professional, honest, and gets the job done quickly. They used to offer coupons on the back of Vons reciepts, but even without, it sets you back about $ 50, which I figure is average.
For an extra 25 bucks, Vick can do all of your DMV processing as well, and you can get your sticker on the spot. Good for people who are trying to get their registration in under the wire.

I love it when people that provide services really have a spark. Vick runs a great little shop. I was in and out in 15 minutes or less and even if it had been longer, you can tell that Vick will not have you waiting any longer than is absolutely necessary. Next time you need a smog check, pay this guy a visit – in a building beside the Valero station on Allen & Villa. I was referred here by Independent Audi & VW Service, another 5 star business.
