John Watson Electrician

Called John on a Sunday and he was able to make it out in a few hours. We had some previous work done in our house that messed up some outlets in the living and dining room. He took a look at the work, did some trouble shooting, and solved the issue– ON A SUNDAY! Thanks for the work, John.

We called John on Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm because the power in our house keep going out. I did not expect a call back the same day, but by 4:15pm he returned our call (on a Sunday!) He listened, asked questions and had us send a picture of our circuit box and he quickly figured out the problem. He was able to explain the part we needed to replace and gave my husband directions on how he could do this himself. My husband followed his directions and the problem is solved!!! He didn’t charge us anything! Mr. Watson is very knowledgeable and professional. I so appreciate his help and for future electrical issues we will definitely call him.

John was amazing.
My recessed lights turned off after I swapped some outlets out. I thought I blew something out. John spent 30 minutes on the phone with me trying to help me solve my problem so he would not need to come by and charge me. I took his advice and did what I thought was right and sent him pictures and he said I was doing everything wrong.
He came by between a project around 6 pm at night. He spent an hour teaching me how to replace outlets and switches and not electrocute myself in the process. Then he went around my house trying to solve my recess light problem. Took awhile and ended up finding out it was a completely different outlet that I installed wrong that caused it. He also took a look at my circuit breaker box to make sure my house was rewired correctly.
His service was top notch and I was very thankful he took the time to teach me how to do things. Charged me $ 140 for the hour he came, which is really reasonable after I called around to different people. Well worth it to solve my problem and get some much needed knowledge.

I called John because my power was flickering. He came to the rescue within a few hours and swiftly deduced that the problem was most likely with the power company. He called them on my behalf and amazingly they showed up while we were still chatting. John explained the situation to the employee who checked out a few of the connections. The following morning the power co tested the line and confirmed the power was indeed flickering outside my home within their lines. After they replaced/​tightened several connections the problem was resolved.
John refused to accept any payment for his service call — or reward for his staring role in fixing the problem. I will definitely call him again if the need for an electrician should arise!

During the last couple of months, our home had some power issues in both our restrooms and the Master Bedroom. John was able to analyze and diagnosis the problem. It was quite difficult to find. After about 20 minutes, he found the outlet that was causing the issue. He was able to take care of the problem the same day. Great professionalism and service! Thanks, John.

Real limited exposure, but confirmed the experience of some others. I know nothing about electrical issues so when a chunk of our kitchen was without power, I looked to Unilocal to find someone to help. Called John on a Sunday afternoon, he picked up and was cordial and willing to hear me out. He asked a quick question, made a suggestion, and voila, problem solved. Will use him next time we need an electrician, without a doubt.

I called on Saturday and John picked up the phone almost immediately. He was able to troubleshoot my circuit breaker problem over the phone. And guess what! He walked me through and fixed my problem without him coming over to my house. Best of all he did not charge me for it but did it out of good service and honesty. He is a rare breed in the industry.
I have never had an experience with such an honest and non-​greedy technician in my whole life until now. Others would just asked for the problem I had and showed up. Then they charged me just for showing up plus any additional work performed.

Very quick response. This guy knows his stuff. I was confused about a few changes and issues with my problem and he emailed me several times to clarify it. As soon as I need something else done, he is the one Im gonna call in Pasadena.

Our power went out on the 2^nd floor and basement of our 1924 home. Mr. Watson took the time to ask a lot of questions over the phone. He is professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. He arrived on time for our appointment and was able to locate and fix the problem efficiently. While he was here he was also able to fix a motion-​detector light that has been broken for months and give us an estimate for a future remodel. His prices are very reasonable. This was our first experience with an electrician and it was a very positive one. We will definitely call Mr. Watson for our future electrical needs.

It’s wonderful that others had a great experience with this guy. Me, not so much. I called on Friday around 4:30, left a message saying I wanted an estimate for a rewiring job for a low-​amp wire from my home to my AC. Based on another estimate I already had, this was not going to be inexpensive so I thought more than one estimate was appropriate. As of Tuesday night, this guy has still not called me back — nothing, nada, zip, zilch — not even to say «Oh, I’m too busy; call someone else.» I live in Pasadena, so I’m not out of his way. What’s the story? If you’re out of town or won’t be returning calls, say so on your outgoing message. But days later to have no response of any kind is not okay.

What a great person! I called because I have a circuit breaker that keeps tripping. John answered the phone himself– what a novelty today– and spent about 10 minutes walking through and clarifyng the issue with me. John has a calm and confident manner and is very knowedgeable about electrical issues. I will certainly call him again.

John Watson is a fine electrician who is thorough and thoughtful. His crew are great at what they do and love doing it. They are all a pleasure to work with. I hired John to upgrade the electrical box on my old house (1905) which was a task in and of it self, but working under the scrutiny of the ever watchful and picky eye of the city inspector he was thrown several curve balls which he handled effortlessly. The first day I met John he was just giving a general look at my house to see if an upgrade was necessary (which he did not charge me for) and he was there when my appliances arrived. Without being asked he joined in and helped me remove a frame to make way for the fridge. The SEARS guys just stood there and watched as John physically helped me solve the problem! I will always be indebted to him for this! What a nice guy!

Came home today — half my home was out of power. Looked on Unilocal and called John. Left a message. I thought it would cost me a bundle.
Within 45 minutes he returned my call. Patiently stayed with me on the phone for about 30 minutes as he talked me through a diagnosis: It was probably a power company issue, he said.
I tried to pay John for his time but he would have none of it.
Put in a call with the Edison number that John gave me. They put in a priority service call. Within a few hours, about 9pm, an Edison service man came and fixed it. All for free.
Make no mistake, I will call John next time I need an electrician. In fact I’m thinking up a few upgrade jobs for him to do!

John was GREAT! We had a dead outlet for quite some time, but with baby about to walk all over this place, we knew we needed to fix the outlets soon so. well, so our baby didn’t get zapped.
John told us he would be here at 4:30 and showed up right on time. Helping hubby take down the large TV to look, fixed that dead outlet in no time and fir a very reasonable price. He was super sweet to our baby (he has some grandkids), our two pups who were crazy interested in him (he has a few dogs), and even teased me for seeing me play CandyCrush (shut it — don’t you judge me!) And texted his daughter to see what level she was on. Lol.
So…all in all… fast, affordable service with a smile.

I have used John Watson a couple of times. The first time was a small minor job, but most recently he installed the wiring for my new Jacuzzi. I called and left a message on Sunday and he called me back Monday morning. He was over to my home the next day to assess what was needed and explain to me his approach. I gave him the date/​time that the Jacuzzi was going to be delivered. He had everything in place and had Chris his assistant there at the house waiting for the delivery. Everything went perfectly! I’m very pleased.

Quick response time. Great for small businesses. He fixed some outdoor lighting at my bar and did an awesome job.
He is a Kings fan as well, which goes a long way.

UPDATE:
I called John back and had him give us a bid on a lot more work because obviously I was so happy with him! Even though his bid came in REALLY high, we liked him and were just going to let him do the work anyway. We agreed to his bid and then had to wait for a bit in order to come up with the money to do the agreed upon work, which was fine with him because he said he suddenly got really busy. When we were ready to set up a start date, both my husband and myself emailed him several times to get the project going, and we NEVER heard back. It was so strange! We kept trying to reach him, and asking whether we had done something wrong, etc., but just no response. It was very weird. He had been over a couple of times with his guys to make sure to give us a fair bid, but then suddenly just disappeared. He just never ever responded to us ever again! We ended up finding another electrician, that we have been working with since then (who actually did a great job for ½ the price!). So sad! Was looking forward to working with him again, but I guess we were just meant to be ships passing in the night…

John is great find. We thought we needed a new panel installed (which costs about $ 2500 so it’s good potential business). He came out the same day I called him and talked us out of replacing the electrical panel. The problem was something else but I bet 8 out 10 electricians would’ve gone with the flow and replaced the box. Instead, he did some diagnostics and pointed us in the right direction (a/​c unit). Very honest and trustworthy. We will be keeping his number handy. Honest service is hard to come by nowadays.

You get what you pay for and John’s rates are pretty competitive and he does good work. He was pretty good about rescheduling around my schedule, so it was appreciated. I think with any service professional who travels, its hit and miss in terms of keeping an appointment as karen b. found out. fortunately, both things worked in my favor. Again, John did a good job, i would recommend him to any friend and Unilocaler.

A few months ago, a few of the exterior lights and outlets in the back of my building went out. Since this happened shortly after I had my building repiped and was confined to the back of the building, I thought it might have been something the plumbers did.
John came out with his assistant and fixed everything in a couple of hours and sent me an invoice electronically promptly.
He was courteous on the phone and answered all my questions. Additionally, I was planning on some renovations in the future and had questions about my electrical needs and he was kind enough to give me his opinion and advice on that for no charge. (Obviously, if I had asked him for a full electrical schema, that would not have been free.)
At the time, he charged $ 150/​hr because it’s him + a helper and he charges by the hour (no minimum). But if he doesn’t need the helper, then he won’t charge for him. [$ 150/​hr sounds steep, but other places charge $ 75/​hr for one person + travel, so this is pretty typical. Give him a call to verify rates as they may have changed since then.]
