Pasadena Eyecare Optometry

I highly recommend this place for your optical needs. The staff here is very professional and the owner-​Mike goes out of his way to ensure that you are taken care of. i came here to get new contact lenses and the eye doctor ensured that i got the best fiting lenses for my eyes. i wasnt able to pick up the lenses so they actuallt delivered it to my place. everything from scheduling an appointent, the actual visit to the post visit follow up was top notch.

This office staff confuses Optometrists and Opthamologists. I was told I’d be seeing an Opthamologist, but turned out he was an O. D, not a M.D. This same thing happened to another patient who was there at the same time. There is a huge difference depending on what you are seen there for. I advice everyone to find out clearly who they are seeing before they make the appointment. I was also charged for a specialist co-​pay on my health insurance for a visit with an Optometrist.

Just had my first visit here today and it was great! I moved from the Bay Area last April where I would go to UC Berkeley Morgan Meredith Eye Center for years (since i was in grade school, I am now 34).
When I arrived they took my previous prescription that was a year old, my insurance card and handed my a few forms to fill out while I was checked in.
I got seen right away and everyone was so nice. I saw Dr. Wong and she was great at explaining what she saw in my eyes and what kind of contact I could get. She broke down my cost of current contacts that are worn for two weeks vs. a contact I can wear monthly.
They didn’t have my new prescription for a trial pair but were ordering it today and contacting me when they come in by the end of the week. She didnt want me to order something new and have them not fit properly.
They informed me of what the cost would be just for my exam and then the cost for my eyes to be dilated and fitted for contacts. I proceeded with the full exam since the last time I had dilation done was almost 1.5 years ago.
I got home and my aunt was visiting and she said she was just looking for a new optometrist. I highly recommended Dr. Wong and gave her the card.

By far, the best doctor’s office experience in all aspects, from front office staff through patient care and follow-​up. The office staff is friendly, responsive, and professional, always on top of appointments, letting us know when contacts are ready to be picked up, and explaining and securing insurance coverage. Our experience is only with Dr. Mike Wong, but he is terrific. Knowledgeable, extremely professional, open to questions, and is keen to take the necessary time with you as a patient, and that is so valuable. I highly recommend this office if you’re in the market for better eyecare and a great patient experience.

I was hoping this would be the year for Lasik, so I made an appointment with Dr. Mike Wong to do my regular visit and my Lasik visit.
This office felt a little different then the eye doctors I’ve been to before. All the other offices I’ve been to are setup with a large open floor full of frames. The exam rooms usually tucked behind/​to the side of the front desk. Here though it is more like a traditional office. You sit in a small waiting room and you are then taken back to the exam rooms. The only downside I saw to this was that you couldn’t peruse new frames on your leisure.
The exam itself went very well. Dr. Wong took his time to talk to me about everything, explained all the tests and their results thoroughly, and generally had a great beside manner. He also was a great help with my lasik consult. Sadly my eyes changed again this year, so I am not eligible. However the change the was small, and he said that I could come back in 6 months for a free lasik evaluation to see if my eyes had changed again. I really appreciated that he took the time to explain to me why I could go forward with lasik now, but that it wouldn’t be a good idea. It made it clear to me that he cares about his patients.
I think the only thing that slightly bugged me was the lack of help with frames and the such. I’m used to getting my new prescription at my old places they have someone talk to you and show you frames. I also got a paper copy from my old place for my prescription, which expedites the ordering process on 1800 contacts. They might have a frame process here, but I didn’t get a chance to check it out. Not a big deal, but a noticeable difference.

My family and I have been coming here for the past 4 years and the Doctor and the staff makes you feel welcome, Doctor Justin Hu takes his time to exam your eyes and he makes sure everything is ok with your vision.
The staff is very welcoming and they take the time to take you through your options in Eyewear, they don’t pressure you on buying expensive glasses, they make sure the glasses are the right fit for you personality and budget. They also have a wide selection in glasses.
For those who are looking for a good optometrist, this is definitely your place.

The eye exam seemed very thorough so at least I know my eye pressure etc is ok, but I can see much better when not wearing the glasses I was prescribed. It’s a good thing my insurance paid for them so I am not out of pocket for something I won’t use. At least got a really nice case I can use for my sunglasses. The selection of glasses is quite small.

I had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Grace Wong. I went to a family friend optometrist growing up, and I wish it would have been her. The staff and Dr. Wong were extremely friendly. I came in and she listened to me first, made her suggestions second, and never tried to push me into anything other than what I was asking for. When the time came to dilate my pupils she says tells me I can either do the normal dilation process, or for $ 29 more (bear in mind insurances vary) I can use this new process they have. PAY THE EXTRA FEW BUCKS. They have this machine that covers the entire dilation process, without actually dilating your eyes, in just a few seconds. Within 45 minutes from getting there I walked out with my full year supply of contacts, without the pain of stepping outside with dilated pupils. She even had most sizes and prescriptions in stock!

Called to make an appointment and was asked for my insurance info. When I got there they asked me to fill out some paperwork since I am a new patient. After spending five minutes filling out the paperwork, the front desk lady told me «we don’t accept your insurance, you’ll have to pay out of pocket to see the doctor». When I told them I wasn’t informed of this when I gave them my insurance info over the phone earlier. They said «Sorry, we forgot to verify with your insurance provider». Are you kidding me? After taking time off work, driving over there, filling out the paperwork, you are telling me you don’t accept my insurance because you forgot to check? How convenient for you to say and wasting other people’s time! UNPROFESSIONAL is all I can say!

I made an appointment with Dr Mike Wong after being recommended to him by Dr. Miller of Pasadena. My VSP insurance was accepted and I received a very thorough eye exam and fitting /​selection service for a new pair of glasses. I was in an out in about an hour and a half (including dilation time) and don’t need to come back for another year.

This is the best eye care office I ever been to. Dr. Grace Wong is really great. All the stuff members here are also extremely nice. I would recommend this to everyone who needs eye care.

I went here for the first time two days ago based on the Unilocal reviews and they were all correct. The Dr. Spent an hour with me explaining everything to me and even caught an eye condition that no other Dr. found. So glad I came and I will be back!

My daughter and I have been going to Pasadena Eyecare for over two years! Dr. Michael Wong is a great optometrist who is very courteous and knowledgeable. The staff is very friendly and always ready to answer any questions that you may have. The office is very clean, they have all modern equipment and they have a nice selection of eye wear! I highly recommend Pasadena Eyecare!

VSP forwarded me to Pasadena Eyecare, which wasn’t a problem for me in the slightest, as the foothills are the best kept secret in all of LA in terms of escaping the dilapidation of the majority of the city, and the burdensome crowds.
The two gals that work up front (Yesenia and another who’s name escapes me) are very sweet and helpful. Most offices throw paperwork at you and fill the atmosphere with negativity, however this is far from the case here. Everyone is very chatty and pleasant.
On to the exam itself. Dr. Grace Wong is very nice, silly and eager to help in any way possible. She is an excellent listener and quite knowledgeable in her arena (thank God). The tests are very basic and virtually the same here however they offer a new eye scan that eliminates the need to dilate your eyes… EPIC!
Last but not least, the Eyeglass store is small but features many RayBans, therefore I was sold.
All-​in-​all: an all-​around awesome visit!

Dr. Wong does a great job… What impresses me about Dr. Wong is that he goes above and beyond what I have experienced with other optometrists. He has several pieces of equipment where he looks into the back of your eye, looks at your blood vessel structure in your eye, and scans for peripheral vision. He has also made time to see me when I have had infections, and provided antibiotics to get me started right away.
He’s an easy going doctor with a passion for what he does and genuine concern for his patients.

So I came here based on Unilocal reviews and I really have to say that I was not disappointed at all. I met with Dr. Grace who was soo sweet and attentive during our appointment, apparently i had stuff in my eyes that i didn’t know about and she helped me clean them! poor lady. lol
Anyways, she explained to me all my different options for my contacts, also explained what is covered by my insurance and which she thought was a better route (it was either cover my glasses or cover my contacts). She even calculated everything for me so i could get an idea of what would be a better choice!
They also have a great selection of eyeglasses to choose from, i ended up with a pair of kate spades, but they also have michael kors, calvin klein, a few gucci, elle, and a few more that I can’t remember off the top of my head, but great selection.
All the staff were super super friendly, really gives a cozy and homey feeling, I definitely left feeling really happy that I came to this place. I am due back for dilation and hopefully my contacts and glasses will be there too! Excited. :)
Another huge plus is that they have a small small parking space area in the front, so no worries about dealing with finding car parking which is huge in Pasadena. :) bombdotcom place for sure!

After a few decades here on your planet, I finally sprouted some eye issues. I had some strange eye infection in January (all healed up– I’m good now– and single.) Then In April I scratched my cornea, lord knows how.
I went to Dr. Wong both times and within hours, pain, redness and problems were gone. He was extremely knowledgeable, told me what the treatment was going to be, and how long before I was fully recovered. He answered every question I had to my satisfaction.
He was 100% accurate with his diagnosis and estimated recovery times. He was very professional and his staff is always polite and friendly. They squeezed me into the schedule quickly when I was in pain and in need of a hug.
I will only come here for my future eye needs.

I had an eye infection from surfing 2 days before and I thought I was going to lose my eyess it was all blurry and painful.
Dr. Wong helped me out and gave me some eye drops that fixed it up that day. I had to pay out of pocket because my insurance didn’t kick in until a week later. Either way, Dr. Wong was super helpful in calming my nerves and explaining that it was common but definitely held risk by sleeping with my contacts in.

I think some healthcare professionals forget the term «care» when providing their services but I am more happy to report that Dr. Wong does an excellent job on the «care» portion, plus is an awesome optometrist to boot.
His exams are always extremely thorough, never rushed and you feel really valued as his patient. My family & I have been his patients for years and I can’t imagine going anywhere else! He also speaks Cantonese which is really helpful for my mom since she doesn’t speak English.
