YEE: King’s Row Gastropub

My peers and fans know that honesty is my policy, and while I’m generally very descriptive with my reviews regarding specific dishes I won’t be able to in this one. I ate very little, due to an abrupt, unforeseen, and shocking news that I received about 20 minutes prior to the event start time. However, I can attest to the superb hospitality from the management and share my sincere appreciation to the wonderful new Unilocal friends that I made that night. Thanks girls :)
I took most of the food home in a doggie bag and agree with many Unilocalers here that the fried chicken was certainly the highlight of the meal. Definitely order that when you come visit. We were given a 20% off coupon for a return visit and I look forward to indulging in offerings from King’s Row at a later time.
Thank you Katie B for hosting a great event and for your friendship during that tough transition. I just moved to LA recently and know that I’m welcomed with open arms with a great CM and awesome community. I’m diggin’ the LA food scene.

My first event since becoming an elite member. Thank you Katie B and Kings Row for hosting this lovely event. Got there a little earlier so I had a chance to experience the atmosphere of the pub. Small but cozy bar. All the patrons seem to be enjoying themselves. A very laid back place to chill. Should be a fun place to watch football.
They closed off the room for the event. Each of us were given a ticket to redeem a draft beer. They also served punch and from what I heard everyone loved it. I don’t drink at all so I can’t comment. Once we were all seated the staff started off the evening with naan — cheese stuffed. Pretty tasty but would have loved it more if it had more cheese. More cheese more cheese!
Next up was Mary’s chicken. These little suckers are to die for! When we go back to watch football I will have to order them. One was not enough! I wanted an entire plate! The honey glazed and chipotle flavors were perfectly balanced. The house ranch enhanced the flavors.
I cannot comment on the burger patty because I did not eat it. The other components of the burger was yummy.
The pastrami slider was delicious! I am not usually a fan of mustard but the Sir Kensington mustard married well with the pastrami. The naan roll tasted like a regular roll to me. Love love loved the tiny pickles. I would have loved a jar of those pickles. On a side note, pickles and peanut butter combo is amazing! These pickles would be perfect for that!
Last up was the chocolate cream pie. A little too sweet for me but for ones that love chocolate and sweets this is perfect!
Staff was super friendly. It was a fun night. Got to meet some elite Unilocalers. Good food + elite Unilocalers = amazing night! Kudos to Katie B!!!

Unilocal Life! Unilocal tastings! Yes, fortunate and lucky to get in the YEE King’s Row Gastropub Event. The group was treated to a 5 course tasting of King’s Row menu and beer tastings. The tasting started off with draft beers from the bar and complimentary punch. Out came the food: Cheese stuffed naan., crispy honey glazed chipotle wings served with ranch, house cheese burger and fries, pastrami slider, and chocolate cream pie. Food was good. The wings were the best thing that was served.
The waiters were friendly, accommodating, and came around to talk about their beers on tap. Got to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones. Can’t ask for anything else for a YEE. Thanks to Katie B and King’s Row Gastropub for a great event!

This place is awesome! I have been here before to grab a drink, but never to try their food. King’s Row is located inside an alleyway at Old Towne Pasadena, but the dining area is huge! They have different rooms as well as a patio outside where a live music band plays as well as a downstairs.
This event consisted of a 5 course tasting menu as well as unlimited punch and your choice of a beer. My favorite of them all was the cheese stuffed naan as I LOVE cheese. The two together was a perfect fit! The wings were also amazing and I’m not usually a big fan of wings. The exterior was nice and crunchy, but the glaze added a nice touch on top of it. So good.
They also have a huge selection of draft beers and we also got a bourbon punch that I really enjoyed. Thank you Katie B. for the cool external battery and an amazing time! Definitely coming back here for dinner as well as drinks.

Everything about this event was awesome.
The food, the swag, the drinks, fellow Unilocalers, the staff, and the atmosphere.
Chef Sunny was awesome and friendly. Definitely a master of his craft and answered all out questions about the dishes he created. It’s awesome to know when a chef cares about where his food comes from and how it’s presented.
Stuffed naan was tasty but not as cheesy as I hoped.
The wings were crispy and that chipotle honey sauce was on point. But back to that crispy skin (drool) so so good! And that house ranch with dill was the cherry on top.
The slider was perfectly sized and cooked well. The pastrami was so good it tasted like a gourmet hot dog. Plus who doesn’t love sweet butter pickles (yum)
The chocolate pie was a great surprise. Salty and smooth chocolate throughout. The perfect slice of pie.
Kuddos to the staff. Kudos to Unilocal FOR ORGANIZING THIS.
The portions were great as well. 5 courses and I was totally satisfied. Did not hit a food coma.
Will definitely return on my own with friends!

Great event put on by Katie B and the Kings Row Gastropub team! It was a five course affair of bite sized finger foods. There was cheese stuffed naan, korean style wings, a slider, a mini pastrami stuffed naan and a chocolate pie. Out of the five dishes I loved the wings the most. They do korean style chicken wings like a BAWSSSSSSSSS. It was perfectly fried, with a nice crisp coat and a sweet glaze, which you could then dip into their super delicious tangy house ranch sauce. I wish I had ten more of those wings. I would’ve eaten a full serving.
The food was paired off with a delicious punch that was powered by Buffalo Trace bourbon, very tasy and refreshing. There was also a ticket to redeem for a draft beer of your choice (there were over 10 beers to choose from on their board). I got a space dust IPA, and it was nice crisp hoppiness to it that paired well with the food.
It was a really good experience at Kings Row the wait staff was excellent, fast and friendly. I also enjoyed speaking with the chef, and he told us his vision for the food he was serving. Dammmn those wings so good.
It was a great atmosphere to try new food, new drinks and meet new people! Excellent event!

Awesommeeeee event! Thanks again Katie B. for organizing it! Enjoyed every aspect of the evening! Loved the portable phone charger! Probably the coolest swag I have ever got.
Parking: very convenient. Literally found the bar once I exited the parking lot. It is kind of small so it can be easily missed. Just keep your eyes open and you will find it!
Service: wait staff were on point! Very nice and accommodating. The chef came out a couple of times to check on how we were doing and how we liked the food. Loved hearing his views of sustainability and using local ingredients.
Food: saved the best for last! I was surprised how light everything tasted. Sounds impossible especially since we had sliders, fries, wings, and cheese filled naan. The chef did a great job with not using too much oil. The wings and the sliders were my favorite! The wings were crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The sliders had a great balance of ingredients; really reminded me of an In-​N-​Out burger.
Will definitely be back with some friends and a normal review of Kings Row!

I enjoyed this event as it allowed me to meet new people and try a place that wasn’t on my radar simply because of distance. I will definitely bring friends back here though.
The naan stuffed with cheese was crispy and tasted like a hint of garlic. Delicious.
The second entrée was the wings, it was crispy and had a delicious honey glaze around it. I’d like to compare how crispy it is to the top of a crème brûlée dessert, when you first crack the top with a spoon is how I felt when I took that first bite. It came with this amazing house ranch sauce which was so addicting we asked for extra when the fries came out. Next we had the burger, the meat was cooked medium. I liked that because it wasn’t too hard or pink, just right.
The next dish was interesting, it was a naan roll with pastrami, the roll itself was soft and somewhat sweet but complimented the pastrami well. Finally dessert, it was a cream pie. The chocolate was sitting on what I think was crumbled graham crackers. I found that it was not too sweet which I liked considering how much I ate already. Overall a great experience to be able to eat and talk to the chef Sunny regarding the food.

Another awesomely hosted Elite event by Katie B. at Kings Row Gastropub. The event featured tasty unlimited bourbon punch and a choice of 24 craft beers. We were seated in our own private room in the back which had a few pinball machines and multiple tv’s to watch Monday Night Football! Nothing better than food and football! However I did not see much of the game as the food kept coming out and mingling with fellow Unilocalers is always a great time. The first course was a cheesy naan, the second (my favorite) was a twist on buffalo wings «Mary’s Chicken» fried honey glazed wings with a ranch sauce. Then came out a burger slider on a brioche bun… the chef said he special orders the beef.(I liked the Sir Kensington mustard and ketchup!) The fourth course was a house cured pastrami sandwich, and finally a chocolate pie on a graham cracker. What really stands out is the location right off Colorado in Old Town Pasadena. The atmosphere is great with high ceilings, an outdoor patio, multiple bars and beer taps, and of course a plethora of big screens to watch that big game! Overall King’s Row has great comfort food for hanging out with your friends and having some drinks. The staff is super friendly and they were very attentive to our entire party. These Elite events are fantastic to meet and greet as well as to try new places. I always try to walk around and meet a few new people in between the tastings … I always have a great time thanks again !!!

Absolutely loved my first Unilocal event. Thank you King’s Row for hosting us. The menu was great and everyone serving us so hospitable. Here is what I think of the menu:
Provolone stuffed naan: this is not really naan but your typical quesadilla or more a pita bread, which is very different. A naan has got to be prepared in a clay oven, not on a griddle. I know a real naan so this didn’t cut it.
Chicken wings: the crispiest wings I’ve ever had. The ranch was delicious and spices on point.
Cheeseburger on brioche: the quality of the meat is excellent and its cooked just right but just needs to be seasoned and salted more. It tasted a bit bland to me.
Pastrami sandwich: pretty good! The mustard along with it is really good.
Chocolate cream pie: to me that was the star of the entire meal. The chocolate pudding atop the graham cracker crust was really good and sweetened just right. The crust was delicious. I’ve had so many chocolate cream pies and this one really stood out!
I’ll come her for Wings and cream pie any time. Everyone for the chef to managers were super friendly.

What a great way to start off the week! Huge thank you to the incredible Katie B. for arranging such an amazing event and King’s Row Gastropub for being a fantastic host!
The menu for the night was on point. We started off with cheese stuffed naan which was downright DELICIOUS. Way to make a great first impression! The warm fresh cheesy naan was soo soft and light. Its basically the ultimate comfort food. Ugh I could live off that stuff forever and ever (and ever and ever…). This actually turned out to be my favorite dish of the night.
After that we had twice-​fried chicken wings, complete with chipotle honey glaze and served in house ranch. Perfectly fried with a crunchy exterior and tender most interior. I LOVED the sweet and spicy chipotle honey glaze although the flavor can get lost in the creamy neutralizing dill ranch. I mean I guess that’s the point of the ranch but damn I was so sad when I couldn’t taste the wonderful glaze wherever the ranch touched my wings :(
Our third course was a little baby burger! The cute slider size was perfect for this tasting event (considering we had 5 courses to go through!). The patty was thick and juicy, cooked to a soft medium rare. Its natural savory flavor paired quite well with the sweet sesame brioche bun. And the fries that came alongside were sooo freaking good. A++ for outstanding seasoning.
I’m not the biggest fan of pastrami so I didn’t care much for the pastrami slider. However I do want to mention that their house-​cured pastrami, together with the Sir Kensington mustard and pickles, was very flavorful, almost overwhelmingly so. It was quite tasty but by this point I was beginning to lose steam so I wasn’t able to finish all of it (plus I wanted to save room for dessert! :D).
For our last course we were served a square piece of chocolate cream pie. The chocolate cream had a soft pudding-​like texture that wasn’t too sweet which is nice for some, but I’m a huge sweet tooth so I wouldn’t have minded some more sugar! My favorite part was definitely the light airy cream atop the chocolate-​y goodness. Yum yum!
Sooo full by the end of the night. Shout out to my lovely tablemates Mendel L., Crystal Z., and Shelley Z. for a great time! And we got Unilocal SWAGGG: a powerbank! If I had known I’d be lucky enough to attend this amazing event and that it would include such an awesome souvenir I wouldn’t have bought one already while I was in Taiwan over the summer. Well, one can never have too much power, right? Will definitely be using whenever I’m on the go!

Great event with a private area for us tonight! It was an extra treat for me since I’ve never been to King’s Row Gastropub before. It’s true, it’s literally a HIDDEN gem!

My favorite out of the bunch was the wings; perfect crunch and flavor! Nom, nom, nom!!!
Besides the food, we received one drink ticket for the night that we can redeem for a glass of beer or wine. Luckily, they didn’t require a drink ticket for the Bourbon punch. There was a lot of new faces and I wish I had gotten a chance to mingle a little bit more, but dealing with jet lag equates to a more introverted version of myself.

Given my crazy schedule, it isn’t very often that I get the chance to attend Unilocal events. This was a rare occasion where I was on day shifts and was off the next day. Arrived a bit early but that was ok as MNF on the tv at the bar. Sat at a table and waited until Katie was done setting up inside.
Once we were allowed in, the lucky attendees signed in and were given a ticket for a draft beer of choice. They also had some sort of punch which I didn’t get a chance to try as I stuck with beers for the night.
First dish to come out was their naan bread. Guess I was the only one whose naan wasn’t cheesy. It did taste good but I sure didn’t notice nor taste any cheese in my pieces.
Next up were the Mary chicken wings. These were perfectly fried and sauced perfectly. They had a nice sweetness and a subtle kick which paired nicely with the in house ranch. A definite must order when coming here to have a few drinks.
The third dish to come out was their beef slider. Though moist and flavorful, my beef patty was cooked to a medium. The fries were fried and seasoned perfectly and I did enjoy the ketchup they provided. The menu did state that it would be served on a sesame brioche bun but it looked like a regular bun to me.
Fourth up was their naan roll pastrami slider. The pastrami was tasty but the naan roll tasted like a regular roll to me. The Kensington mustard paired nicely with their pastrami. Oh and the pickles were super tasty and wished I had a few more slices on my plate!
Last up was their chocolate cream pie which wasn’t super sweet as I had expected. A nice way to end the fun night.
We were one of the first to leave so missed out on the coupon but would definitely come back to watch either college of pro football in the coming few months.

What a treat!!! This event was one of the best I’ve been to from start to finish. It started on time and was seamless. We were treated to a 5 course meal. Each dish came out hot and fresh. 1) The cheese stuffed naan glistened in butter and had just the right amount of cheese. The naan was fluffy and fresh. BUTTER! Need I say more? 2) The wings with homemade ranch — f’in delicious. Crispy and sticky. 3) The burger slider with pomme frites — standard burger with great quality meat. 4) Pastrami slider with homemade pickles and mustard — pretty good; I love pickles! 5) Chocolate cream pie — I’m not a huge chocolate fan but I am a huge fan of freshly made whipped cream. I really really enjoyed this — not too sweet, ooey gooey, and light. This meal by the chef, Sunny, definitely will draw me back to King’s Row for some food and drinks. The bourbon punch and beer selection were also awesome! I was stuffed and happy. Thanks Katie B. and King’s Row!

The night began with the legendary Katie B hug! After checking in, I placed a Unilocal name tag on, and headed over to the bar to use my beer drink ticket. It was tough to choose as KRGP has 24 taps of local and not so local beers. A delicious bourbon punch was freely flowing as well!
I found a seat and awaiting was awesome Unilocal swag — a Unilocal emergency cell phone battery charger!
We were treated to a 5 course sampling of the pub menu…
First course: warm, freshly made cheesy naan.
Second: Mary’s chicken, chipotle honey glazed wings, and a nice accompaniment of house made dill ranch.
Third course: an all-​American burger slider, house ground patty, homemade American cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, red onion, 1000 island spread, all on a sesame seed brioche bun.
Fourth course: Pastrami slider on a naan roll, house cured pastrami, pickles, and Sir Kensington mustard.
To end the night — a fifth course of sweetness — Chocolate cream pie!
We were also given a 20% off bounce back coupon to use on a future visit for Happy Hour!

Another great event from Unilocal and Katie B! My favorite this year so far. We were treated to a 5 course meal with free flowing bourbon punch and one free beer. The food was delicious and chef Sunny himself came out several times to chat with us and is obviously passionate about his menu. I’d been to King’s Row a couple times before but didn’t think the food was anything special; apparently, I’ve been ordering the wrong things because the grub was on point last night. The chicken wings, cheese naan, and chocolate cream pie will be my must haves whenever I return. The staff was on top of things and unlike some other elite events I’ve been to, they were prepared to serve such a big group all at once. Nothing was lacking. I left full and happy. Yay!

I really like these back to basics tasting events. It gives you the best chance to enjoy the food and beverages, while moving beyond small talk with your fellow Unilocalers. Old Town Pasadena is also a favorite of mine and I was happy to finally check out King’s Row Gastropub. I use the Schoolhouse parking structure all the time (hello, there’s 90 minutes of free parking) and King’s Row is conveniently located right off the alley. There’s an outdoor beer garden and two indoor spaces, a main dining room and a private room. All three areas have TVs making this an ideal spot for catching a game.
Our Unilocal Elite Event was held in the private room which has its own bar… score! We were treated to a beer of our choice (they have dozens to choose from) and a special Unilocal PUNCH (made with bourbon, honey, lemon juice, hibiscus water, orange juice and prosecco), to go along with a five-​course tasting. We started with some heavenly provolone-​stuffed NAAN. I’d been craving a grilled cheese lately and this was a perfect stand-​in. The second course featured their amazing WINGS. This was my favorite and apparently the crowd favorite. The chipotle honey glaze was almost too spicy for me, but the house ranch (that dill!) saved the day. I especially loved the crispiness of the twice-​fried skin. The next course was a BURGER. It was the cutest looking slider. The patty was a nice medium rare. The fourth course was another «slider» only this one came with their house-​cured PASTRAMI. By this point I was so full I could only enjoy a few bites. The roll was interestingly made with naan. And finally, the last course was a CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE. Slightly salty on a thick graham cracker crust.
The King’s Row staff were so incredibly warm and welcoming. The chef even came out to chat and answer questions. And of course Katie B was her usual awesome self. Thank you all!

A bunch of happy Unilocalers came out to try the 5 course meal, along with the free drink ticket and the tasty bourbon punch We all started chatting away, and I must admit that everyone at our table seemed to enjoy the feast. The «no plus one» events are definitely more social than the usual +1 type events! Thumbs up!
The chef came out while we were trying the Naan and explained that the naan is based on his mom’s recipe, just the way she makes it.
The wings, oh my. the crunch and sweet and spicy glaze. So amazing!
The burger was perfectly cooked and so juicy. Perfect serving size of the fries — and that Sir Kensington ketchup. Dare I say that it wasn’t just a ketchup, but a darn tasty ketchup?!
As the belly was reaching its maximum circumference, another course came out. A Pastrami slider in a naan roll. Salty and really tasty. Once again, Sir Kensington mustard on the side. Oh yeaaa!
And to top it off, the desert course which was a beautiful and tasty chocolate cream pie. Great strategy to save the best for last!

If you blink you will miss the Gastropub location from the Colorado Blvd street side. If you actually are in the back in the alley between the restaurant and the parking garage it’s harder to miss.
There was a bourbon based punch made just for us and a ticket for one craft beer for free. I however don’t drink, and I asked for something non-​alcoholic and got a housemade lemonade with raspberries and blackberries muddled together and then a splash of soda water. It was quite delicious.
Now on to the food.
We started the night with some housemade naan stuff with provolone cheese (we asked the chef). It was so light and fluffy.
The onto wings. This was by far my favorite of the night. Korean style and sauced. The wings were perfectly crispy, fat rendered off of the wing making it just meat and skin and sauce, the perfect combo. The sauce was a korean style — spicy and sweet. Sitting on top of some housemade ranch.
The burger — this was a little slider. Very cute. Sliders are always so hard to get right, but the meat was moist.
Pastrami slider — this was probably my second favorite because of the naan roll. They basically took the naan dough and made the roll. It just made the roll so perfect for this slider.
Dessert — chocolate pie. quite delicious but nothing super special.
Overall a great night, I really liked this place and can’t wait to head back for some lovely drinks and dinner with friends.

Thank you kings row and Unilocal for this lovely YEE. This YEE was exactly what I needed for Monday. We had the private room as our Unilocal heaven.

Food and drinks yay! I’ve been here a few times and know Executive Chef Sunny will bring it. The food here in general is always fantastic.
Grub: five course sampler. Some were staples on the regular menu, some being rolled out with some secret sauce /​wink later this fall. Everything was so tasty, I wished we had more. Favorite: Pastrami. (course 4) and Chocolately goodness (dessert)
Parking: No parking was included, but the lot on Raymond and Green is free for 90mins, and relatively cheap when you go over. :D
