Specialties
We specialize in full bodied Italian style wines grown from our dry farmed 40 acre vineyard. Our wines are designed to pair with food and therefore are higher in acid and tannin. We make ten different varietals including Sangiovese, Charbono, Barbera, and Merlot.
History
Established in 1987.
The property was purchased in 1977 by Gino and Joe Perata. At that time it was farmed in barley, as was all of the land along Arbor Road. They chose this property because of the rolling hills and the ocean breezes in the summer. Gino and his wife Carol built their home on the property in 1978. They began by planting 25 acres of grapes starting in 1980, starting with Cabernet, Merlot and the Paso favorite, Zinfandel. They sold grapes to other wineries until the vines were well established. Then in 1987 they bonded the winery. In the mid 1990s, demand for the wines justified expanding the vineyard and 5 more acres of vines were planted. There are now a total of 10 varieties grown on the 30 acres of grapes.
Meet the Business Owner
Gino P.
Business Owner
Gino bought the property in 1977 with his brother Joe, specifically to plant Cab Sauv grapes. His plan was to sell grapes, but after trying those finished wines, he decided that using his Italian traditions he could make amazing wine from his grapes. His first wine was made in 1987, the same year his youngest daughter was born. Since then he has grown both the winery using the traditions his father and grandfather taught him. As part of that, Gino’s wines start in the vineyard, so every morning he always takes a «gito» or tour of the vineyard, just to check on the vines. Gino is also very passionate about his wine, especially that it should always be paired with food. He isn’t too picking about the pairings, he leaves that to his very talented wife and general manager Carol. He also believes that wine is meant to be shared with good friends so wherever he goes, he’s probably got a bottle of wine with him. To him, good friends, good food and good wine are all you need in life.
