We cannot express sufficiently how pleased and amazed we are with Pecan Hill Kennels. Great people and great venue. We first learned of PHK when we purchased our black lab puppy at a charity auction for Rice University. Training at Pecan Hill was part of the package. We were at first a bit reluctant to drive all the way out past the Brookshire area, but upon arrival we could not believe how beautiful the grounds are: rolling meadows, trees, swimming ponds, etc. The folks operating Pecan Hill are quintessential«dog people» who clearly care about their work and know what they’re doing. Very professional and very personable. They engendered such confidence that we later brought our older black lab in for some«refresher» training along side the new puppy. Now, when we travel on an extended trip, we board our dogs at Pecan Hill. While there are numerous local Houston kennels where we could board the dogs, we feel the two-hour round trip drives to drop off and pick up are worth the effort. — After all, our hounds are family! We now refer to Pecan Hill as «puppy camp» when telling our dogs we’re bringing them out there. … This last week we brought our dogs, now three in number, for another stay at puppy camp. All clearly had a great time. There’s no question we’ll be bringing them out to Pecan Hill the next time we travel.

Megan, Pete and everyone at Pecan Hill is very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Our German Shepherd was really just a «mess» when it came to obedience. I was referred to Pecan Hill and they did an awesome job with her. She now is very obedient and responds to all of her commands. I have referred literally five friends to them that got lab puppies for hunting, and another that had a German Shepherd. Everyone of them has thanked me for referring them to Pecan Hill. They were all very satisified with the excellent training their dogs have received. I will continue to refer others that are in need of great dog training to Pecan Hill Kennels. I have been out there to witness many training sessions with my dog, and have watched them work with her and many other hunting dogs. I have never seen any of the issues that were described in a couple of the other reviews. I would take any dog there without hesitation. Look people they have been training dogs there for about 30 years without any advertising. They work by referral only. Do you really think their business would grow, and thrive for three decades if they didn’t care about people’s pets and take good care of them? There is a reason people have and continue to refer them cleints — they’re excellent at what they do.

probably our fault for not asking how much they use shock collars… our dog stayed for 7 weeks… came back covered in fire ant bites… had ‘cold water’ tail syndrome and bad mouth ulcers… cost us $ 400 in vet bills the morning after we picked him up… discussed this with the owners and sent a copy of vet bill… total denial and lack of interest on their part… we did not want any money for our costs… just wanted to let someone know what had happened… they could have not cared less… we have house dogs. not field /hunting dogs… we really should have asked a lot more questions before we did this…
