Payson Campground & Rv Resort

It was a nice campground. The owners are very nice and helpful. Nice location being close to most everything, but just a little close to the road. Good experience overall.

We stayed here this past weekend. We took our four kids ages 5 – 9. While I don’t have many have complaints about the place… I want to write this so other people are informed of what they could be booking. When we booked it was a last minute trip and we knew it was close to town. (The place was recommended to us). This place is IN town. As in you can hear cars driving by at night. If you want to stay someplace that has plumbing, a spot to throw up your tent, and call it a day this place is for you. I grew up «camping» in the middle of no where so this was a shock to me. The spots are VERY small. My kids like to explore and play while camping and it is not happening here. WAY too small of spots. You can see Into your neighbors tent very clearly as they are SO close. Also our site had ZERO shade. Had we not brought our big canopy we would have been sitting in The sun the entire time. It was nice that our site was across from the bathroom however they have a number code needed to enter every time which was kind of a pain. The swimming pool was nice, especially after a morning of hiking. If you want to explore at all be prepared to drive as this place doesn’t have that. I think my only real complaint was Saturday night they had karaōke at the pool from 7pm and it last until after 10:30. And when camping with kids they get up with the sun so we had cranky kids as the karaōke was LOUD… So it kept them up late. Also no at site fire pits (unless you pay $ 5 for a fire ring) or BBQ grill. We usually camp places that provide that so we ended up eating at chilis for dinner as we couldn’t grill our food. (Not really camping but «glamping»). Oh and it seems EVERY site had a dog with them… Some several. Barking wasn’t really a problem but just be aware.

Great stop on our overnight to reservation lake. Easy after hours check in, clean showers, beautiful grounds, spacious pull through rv spots.

Decent place for car camping, although you’re just really paying to sleep outside near a freeway. The campground is very clean and well kept, staff is friendly, and my friend and I felt very safe here. However, it’s right off one of the main roads, so you definitely get some road noise coming past through the night. We also had some very disrespectful, drunken neighbors who were making a ruckus until around 330 am our first night, which is never fun. Otherwise, the cleanliness of the place was very appealing. The bathrooms were clean and never crowded, hot water was never an issue. Plenty of clean drinking water available near our campground, and it was easy to make a reservation. Staying here doesn’t give you the same sensation of getting out of town and back into nature as most other places I usually stay, but it’s convenient in terms of location and amenities for folks who don’t feel comfortable melting into the wilderness.

We’ve been rving for over 44 years. These are some of the nicest folks you will meet. The scenery is beautiful, and each site is semi private. We have literally camped from coast to coast, and this place ranks at the top. Thanks for making our stay memorable.

This is used-​to-​be KOA, and, as such, the spaces are variable in width and length.
The owners do an excellent job of maintaining the sites, trimming branches that could interfere with manuvering and parking.
The park is enough off the road that traffic noise is minimal.
Restrooms were being cleaned about 11am and were spotless.
Only drawback was sites and roads were not paved, but they were manageable in ou 40ft MH. Sites were basically level so the jacks leveled us just fine.
If you’re looking for an everything resort this isn’t it. But if a little woodsy,
restful park is what you want, then this is a good value.
Remember, this is an RV (ehicle) place not a pitch a tent campground. They do have tent sites scattered throughout and these have minimal space.
We are full-​time live-​in-​our-​MH, and this is would return to park.

I give Payson Campground & RV Resort a negative number, but since they make you check a star, I’ll have to check one just to write my review. My boyfriend, Brian, already posted his review and I basically reiterate everything he said. This place made us feel like criminals. They monitor you like you would not believe, there’s no privacy. I couldn’t even use the bathroom in peace. Two days in a row they were cleaning the bathrooms when I went to use it. I almost had an accident the first day. WHO cleans the bathrooms in the morning when everyone’s had coffee and eaten breakfast? Usually a very popular time to use the bathroom, right? I think they should change it to later in the day. When I asked if they had another bathroom to use, she looked at me like I was from Mars and said ‘NO.’ Was that a weird question to ask or something? Geeze!
This is not a ‘pleasure’ campground by any means. If you’re like us and camp in a tent for pleasure, don’t go here! We usually go to state parks that are serene and beautiful. This place is noisy; as it sits on a major artery… big 18 wheelers are driving by, and all sorts of traffic. There’s nothing pretty or quiet about this place at all. Our lot was towards the front, but we walked thru the entire site, and it was noisy all over. I would recommend this place if you’re over 80, or if you’re driving thru town in an RV and need to make an emergency overnight stop. Camping here for pleasure is a waste of your time and money. Also, it’s about double the price of a beautiful state park camp site, PLUS you pay extra for a stupid fire ring. There are no grills on the site, and some don’t even have a picnic table.
I also want to elaborate on something that Brian brought up in his review. Yes, we walked away from the fire for about a total of a few minutes… we just walked to the bottom of the hill and back up. It’s not like we were away from the fire for an hour or longer. And we would not have walked away if it was a blaring fire; it was wimpy and only one log. Nothing was sticking outside of the fire ring. It was not a fire hazard. We know not to leave a fire unattended, but considering the size of the fire and that we just walked to the bottom of a small hill and back, was truly not an issue. But after Fire Marshall Bill (this is not his real name, but we nick-​named him that) said what he had to say, he just stood there staring at us. What more did he want us to do or say? We had apologized and made sure it was clear we would not do it again… but yep, he just stood there staring at us. This place was like the Twilight Zone!
Run…Don’t look and don’t stop! Choose Houston Mesa — it was way different/​better.
