Affordable Carting

Every carting company I’ve looked up here has bad reviews. I gave this one a try and I’m glad I did.
I spoke to the salesman on the phone and he was very nice and accommodating. He seemed to actually care about what I had to say compared to the other companies that were as brief as possible.
I ordered a dumpster and labor. They came on time, and the labor was really quick with what needed to be done. I asked for a pickup and they came the next day.

So here’s the story: I had to empty junk from the basement of our house in NY as we have sold it. When I asked for rates they quoted $ 185 for «half a U-​Haul van load». I asked if they meant one of those 12 or 15 ft U-​Haul vans (I had those box trucks for moving house in mind), and they said ‘Yes’. Seemed like a good rate to me and I thought I had about a half-​van load of trash in our basement, so I booked. They did a nice follow up call in the morning to confirm the appointment and I was pretty impressed.
I was dismayed when they showed up in a regular van, not one of those box trucks, and I immediately knew I had a problem on my hands. The two young guys who did the actual work were great– friendly and helpful and worked like dogs! Sure enough the van filled up and we had junk sitting in the driveway still. I had to get rid of it that day — no choice — so the guys said they would come back and get the rest soon. I knew this would mean extra charges of course, but I had no choice at this point, and to their credit those guys were back pretty quick. The van was a quarter full when it left the second time. The guys told me their offices were closed by that time (about 5pm) and to call in the morning about charges.
I called in the morning and was expecting bad news — maybe a $ 400 bill instead of my original $ 185, but I was not expecting the $ 550 actual bill! I understand that my junk went from a half-​van to a van and a quarter and I get that the guys had to work an hour longer, but really — $ 550 for just over a van load of junk??!
I called later in the day to try and get a break on the bill and was told that Dan would call me back. Hey Dan, I’m still waiting!
UPDATE:
So Dan in fact contacted me (I think because of my review here) and we had a lengthy conversation about our business transaction. The bottom line was that I had misunderstood what I had been told about the ‘U-​Haul Van’ (NOT U-​Haul box truck which was what I had had in mind as that’s what I’ve always used for moving). Dan stressed that the person I spoke to mentioned ‘van’ several times to me. I accept that. I said though that I felt that the price in the end was still just too high. Dan said that he had already given me a break on the amount of junk (billed me for two half-​vans only and not the last quarter van, and for only one extra hour of labor when in fact it was more. However he wanted to offer me $ 60 of credit on account. He said he couldn’t do a cash refund. Since this was all he could/​would offer I decided to accept, even though I have no use for the credit as I don’t even live in NY any more! I will try to sell it to friends in that area or give it away.
MY CONCLUSION: Affordable Carting are OK. Their service was very good — timely and efficient. They did the honorable thing and tried to satisfy me in the end (although I wonder if they would if I hadn’t ‘Yelped’ them). I’d like to know what other companies charge for junk pickup and disposal in that area as my feeling won’t go away that this was expensive. I could be wrong though.

The name doesn’t even ring a bell when you really know how this company works. Slow communication, even their employees are slow and dumb. ZERO PROFESSIONALISM, ZERO WORKING ETHICS, I cannot believe this place is still on business.
Not gonna recommend but will discourage everyone.

Greasier than the trash they Haul. Misrepresent what their charges will be; claim have a Dumpster «in the area» and show up after the work day is done. Slick n Smooth. Expect to pay too much. STAY AWAY
