The concept of the fighting arts of Fu-​Jow Pai as the name dictated was modeled after the demeanor and fighting strategy of an attacking tiger. The striking movements are lightning fast, agile and powerful. Techniques unique to Fu-​Jow Pai are ripping, tearing, clawing and grasping applications. The training encompasses both physical and spiritual development. It emphasizes strenuous exercises as well as spiritual discipline. The practitioners not only can be benefitted from it in health or self-​defense aspects, also can develop a stronger and self-​confident personality within.

History

Established in 1983.

Sifu Kwan opened Kwan’s Kung Fu in 1983 and has been teaching traditional Chinese Kung Fu in the Westchester area for over 31 years. He teaches Fu Jow Pai (Tiger Claw System) and Chinese Lion Dancing a tradition of all southern Chinese martial arts. Classes Include:

Traditional Fu Jow Pai Tiger Claw Kung Fu System

The Tiger Claw System includes forms, weapons and self-​defense. Lion Dance is also a part of the cultural and physical training associated with all Southern Kung Fu schools.

Kids Kung Fu

This class will help develop a child’s motor skills and build a foundation of discipline, integrity and respect. Three classes are offered; ages 3 – 5, 6 – 9, 10 – 14.

Kung Fu Kick Boxing

Come let your fists and feet fly, as you burn away the calories in a rigorous yet fun environment!

Tai Chi

Slow moving exercise practiced for both physical and mental well-​being. Tai Chi helps improve balance, coordination and builds Chi (internal energy).

Sifu Shue Yiu Kwan was born in Canton, China, and has studied the martial arts for over thirty-​eight years. He started his Kung Fu training at the age of 14, then began studying Aikido under a disciple of the Aikido founder, Morihei Uyeshiba. In 1968, Sifu Kwan came to the United States where he continued his martial arts training in Judo and Tae Kwon Do. In 1976 he enrolled in the Fu-​Jow Pai Federation in New York’s Chinatown as a student of the Grand Master Wai Hong. At this time, he concentrated all his efforts in mastering the Fu-​Jow (Tiger Claw) system. In 1982, he became an instructor at Grand Master Wai Hong’s school in Chinatown. One year later, he opened his first school in Pleasantville, NY. Since 1983, Sifu Kwan has taught traditional Fu-​Jow Pai Kung Fu to interested students and has trained many tournament champions. In 1994, Sifu Kwan was elected the Vice President of the Eastern United States Kung Fu Federation. In addition to traditional classes, Sifu Kwan teaches Chines
