This locations has served Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Sonoma, Penngrove, and Novato for over 15 years. The center in under new management and ownership as of February 2015 and we continue to remain part of a national chain that has provided transmission and automotive repair services for over 50 years.

I am the center manager here at AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care; the goal for me and my staff is to provide quality automotive service. This means doing the job right in a reasonable time. We have the facility, tools and training to understand today’s vehicles and provide you with top tier service at a reasonable price. I work with pride because my staff and I treat you like a guest, we are in the people business.

We are focused on doing more than transmission repairs. Our technicians have class leading training in total vehicle repair and diagnostics. I encourage you to give us an opportunity for your next repair.

Be careful! I took my car to AAMCO in Petaluma because of a transmission issue. They told me it needed a new transmission and they could put in a factory remanufactured transmission for just $ 3860 plus tax. I said couldn’t afford that but they assured me that was okay because they provide financing. I’m sure with a hefty interest rate. I never got as far as to find out exactly how high the interest rate was.
They told me it was slipping between gears, the transmission was overheating and the fluid was burnt. It wasn’t slipping, the problem was that it would get stuck in second gear. Not always but once in a while. Otherwise, it shifted fine.
I was very suspicious after I told the guy I’d have to pick up my car and figure out how to move forward and he said give him some time and he probably could come up with a lower price. Really? Wouldn’t you offer the lowest price to begin with? When I called back the next week to find out exactly what the mechanic’s notes said about what they found because I consulted another mechanic, he said he’d like to get it back in to take another look at it. I expect them to get it right the first time especially if they want to put in a whole new transmission.
I got a second opinion and the trustworthy mechanic found that it only needed the solenoid replaced. Which, with a transmission fluid service, only turned out to be a $ 600 repair. A far cry from nearly $ 4000. It has no more trouble getting stuck in second gear now and runs great.
I would be very wary when taking your car to this place.

Awesome! Brought my car here on my lunch and service was not only FAST it was GREAT! I brought a coupon for an oil change and was also inquiring about my check engine light. There were no hidden costs and I paid exactly what I was expecting to. David was awesome explaining what was wrong with the car in terms I could understand and was 100% correct. My engine light is off and running beautifully! I will definitely be bringing my car back here!

I have never been to a more friendly, reliable, and quality auto repair shop. These are the people you want working on your car. They not only are extremely knowledgeable but will educate you about what is happening with your car and explain everything that needs to be done to it. What a great experience. I am new the the area and had no idea where to start when looking for a mechanic. I got lucky. BC and David were extremely helpful in getting my car where I needed it to be to pass smog. This was my second time utilizing the services of AAMCO in Petaluma. They provided excellent service and care both times. This time, I was very happy to work with the new center manager, David and auto tech, B.C. Both were friendly and professional. They took excellent care of my vehicle and me, from start to finish. Honestly, I’ve been a Unilocal member for years and years and have never felt the need to post a review until now.
I drive a 2012 Golf TDI and burned out my clutch while driving in traffic, in snow, with chains on in Tahoe. Steve and the guys at AAMCO gave a quick diagnosis that I would have to replace my clutch and depending on damage, once transmission is off, might have to replace my flywheel.
Steve gave me a great estimate but still had to get a few more quotes. After the dealership quote (which was outrageous as expected), another local Petaluma quote a little closer to Steve’s and a complete no response after 2 days from the other local Petaluma mechanic I decided to stick with Steve and AAMCO.
Steve was a down to earth guy who understands and knows how to take care of customers. It was supposed to take one full day but my clutch kit did not come in until end of 2nd day. Steve took care of getting me a rental car for 2 days!
Overall, the work was great, price was even better, and the service was the most important part. I know there are some bad reviews from these guys but that was all before Steve took over a few months back as head manager of the place. I really value the relationship I created with them and would highly recommend Steve and AAMCO as a trusted mechanic! Go to them and you won’t regret it.

I have had 3 vehicles undergo serious repair here. I had a 2004 Ford Focus get a full transmission replacement, a 2008 Chevy Equinox get a new engine and a 2008 Ford Escape get the transmission rebuilt. Both Jeff and Steve are great guys and gave me a great price. Also because of my military service they knocked off 10%. All my vehicles are running fantastic to this day and I will continue to come back to them. Don’t listen to the negative reviews on Unilocal,these guys are the best and also warranty their work.

I am so impressed with the service I received here. As a woman I normally feel a bit intimidated when dealing with car maintenance. It’s pretty obvious that I know nothing about cars but I do know when I’m being taken advantage of. Steve really put me at ease and made the whole experience as pleasant as possible. This is the first time I have taken my car in for repairs and left feeling great. Steve was a pleasure to work with. He got my costs down to a fraction of what I was quoted at other repair shops. The quality of the work is guaranteed and I will absolutely be bringing my car back here if I need work in the future.

We have been coming to Aamco for a few years now. Never have been «unhappy», they have always done great by our family. Today I awoke to a dead car while my husband is out of town. After getting a jump and taking kid to school I swung in to have them check out the problem. The new manager, Steve is phenom!!! Jeff did perfect by hiring him. Top notch service, no sales pitch, honest pricing and fast to obtain and replace my battery!!! Never will consider another shop! Well played Aamco!!!

The customer service is horrible and the work they do sucks. I just paid them for a transmission and its already making noises and shifting bad. They make appointments but don’t keep them. I was told to come in when they open and my car sat there untouched for 3−4hrs while I waited. This happened 2 times! Don’t come here!
Horrible customer service. They don’t care about your time the car sits there all day without them even looking at it. I was given a morning appointment and the car wasn’t touched until 3p. I could have dropped it off then. They need to our a system in place that enables them to be a little more accurate.

Last month Jeff and the crew helped me out.
My Wife’s 90 corolla would not shift from 2nd gear.
I heard that Aamco would do inspections for free, so we went there.
Since Jeff was not able to look at the car till the afternoon he was able to get us a deal on a rental for the day.
Within three hours they not only figured out what was wrong but fixed the car.
Everybody there was nice and helped us out. I would go there again

Stay away from this shop. Our transmission went out on our Nissan Titan, Jeff quoted $ 3100 to repair it. After they took it apart he said it needed the computer replaced, we could do either a rebuilt one for $ 600 or a new one for $ 900. We chose the rebuilt one. Jeff called said it was fixed. We picked it up, drove it to Santa Clara and Redwood City, transmission shimmied at 60. Kept it local the next day and it stopped shifting, brought it back. Tech drove back and truck behaved even worse. Days later Jeff called and said it was fixed again. Two hours later it wouldn’t shift past 3rd, or go over 40 mph. Took it back again, tech who rebuilds the transmission drove back. Truck was even worse and manual shift option was not working. Jeff then calls and says the truck needs another computer and they cannot find a used one, it will cost another $ 900. During this time we were wearing out our other vehicles, 4 people working with only 3 cars. They replaced the computer again with another refurbished one, picked the truck up, drove it to Redwood City, brought it back again. Torque control went out. This time Jeff agreed to provide a rental vehicle provided we purchase the new computer. We’ll see how this goes. We will never go to this shop again, nor will we ever recommend anyone to go there.
Truck is still in there, we’ll see what happens now.

I took my car in for a free estimate (that was the only good part of this story) because my transmission seemed to be acting up intermittently. The assessment was that they found a speed sensor code and gear ratio codes. They recommended an «internal service» for $ 2,368. Jeez! My car is only worth $ 1500! Jeff said that it’s better to pay their fee than paying more for a newer car. I decided to get another opinion and took it to another transmission repair shop in Petaluma that told me to just replace the speed sensors and see if that resolves the problem. Yep, it turns out I did not need Aamco’s big up sell. I then remembered that last time I took a car to them several years ago, the job was done wrong and they had to re-​do it at their expense. Needless to say, I’m moving on…

When the dealer warranty and service package expired on my 2003 Dodge Dakota 4×4, I started taking it to Aamco; specifically because of the great service I’d been receiving on my Mercury Tracer from Chris Norris, the Service Manager. I have yet to have anything short of excellent service from these folks. Just last month, my Dodge came due for its 60K service — the first major service done by anyone other than the dealer. The truck hasn’t run this well since it was brand new, I was really impressed. I wouldn’t consider taking either of my vehicles anywhere else.

I brought my Nissan Pathfinder in for a service, and decided to wait in the office until it was done. During this time I had the opportunity to see the manager, Gary Dixon, in action — helping other customers. Frankly, I have never seen a more professional automotive service manager as he went out of his way to help others. He worked with one young woman to ensure that she was able to get her car back on the road as inexpensively — and safely — as possible. He thoughtfully talked to another who was yelling at him over the phone. And when I got my car back (at a substantially discounted rate) it has never run better. Thanks Gary! I’ll be back with my other cars.
