I took my Honda for years to Bill and Jays when Jay was the owner; when he sold it a couple of years ago, I kept on taking it there
because the guys who bought it had worked for Jay. Jay was honest and great and I thought the service would be the same. I thought wrong. Extra charges (twice, $ 100.00 plus more) routinely, without my being told or called beforehand; a strong gas smell after service that they cannot fix, a price for a battery that was so much more than other garages– ENOUGH! Sad, because it’s in my neighborhood and is so convenient.

One always appreciates clear estimates, quick and accurate work for a reasonable price. Throw in excellent customer service and you have a winning auto repair. Work well done. Thank-​you Bill and Jays!

This guys were very nice and helpful. Don’t have a comparison on prices elsewhere, but they were friendly and fast. Would definitely recommend.

Taken my car here a several more times since my original review in 2009 and I am happy to say they still do a great job at a reasonable price. Gotta love that kind of consistency!

Great quick, honest service at a reasonable price; what else can you ask for when your looking for auto repair! Oh yeah, and the guys are easy to work with and helpful. A friend suggested them and i’m grateful he did. I give them a 5 star rating.

This is my third visit to Bill & Jays and there is a reason I drive here for service. My 20 year old SUV was acting up with its radiator. After 2 attempts at shops in Santa Rosa (out of timing and convenience) I was given a choice to pay $ 250 to diagnose the problems. This happened at both places and made my decision to go to B&J’s.
After a few hours in the shop I was called with the bad news. It was going to take ALOT of work and close to $ 2000 to fix. He put a Band-​Aid on it with my request and advised me to take it to a shop that handled this type of problem. A simple $ 30 bottle of fix it juice later, I am out the door.
Long story short, This is the type of business model that ALL other shops should try to copy. Don’t screw your customers, treat them honestly and offer a great price.
The truck is on the way out, by I am definitely bringing my next car here.

I’ve been taking my 96 Camry to Bill and Jay’s for a few years now because it’s convenient and they seem like straight shooters. I work in the city and commute daily from Petaluma, so taking my car into the shop means I have to take a day off of work. A few weeks back I made an appointment to get my backup lights fixed. Dropped the car off at 9:45 am as I said I would, with a post it note including the problem, my name and phone number, and left. At around 3:00 I called to see when I could pick up my car. No answer, no voice message. Tried again at 3:15. No answer. Started to worry that something was very wrong, so fortunately, found my spare key and walked down there.
Much to my shock and surprise, the place was padlocked. My car was exactly where I parked it that morning at the curb in front of the shop. My keys were sitting in the middle of the desk. They completely flaked on me. Worse than that, it was after 4:00 on a Friday and I had to scramble to find a place that was open and would even consider looking at my car.
The guys at Yotaluma were awesome. Even though they were sweeping up, they diagnosed the faulty part, ordered it and told me if I could get it there by 4:00 any afternoon the following week, they could fix it in 10 minutes. I will write a separate review for these guys who saved me, but back to Bill and Jay’s.
What if I hadn’t had a spare key? Why was there no emergency contact number or answering machine? How much business do they have that they can lose track of a regular customer’s car? It’s just two guys! I cannot put into words how betrayed and disappointed I felt by this customer service nightmare. When I called the following Monday to authorize my neighbor to pick up my key, the guy seemed surprised that this had happened, but made no attempt to make up for the mistake, to fix my car, or to really acknowledge the depth of the inconvenience and money this day without a car had cost me. They probably could have saved my business, but they didn’t even try. What can I say except you guys have lost this customer forever!

I brought my car to Boulevard Auto because it was running rough and chugging. They charged me almost $ 400 to fix a code that was making the check engine light go on. My car still chugged. The light was still on. I brought it back. They charged another $ 160 to fix another code having to do with the light. My car still chugged.
I brought my car to Bill and Jays and they ACTUALLY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, fixed the spark plugs and for less than $ 200, my car is purring again. I’m sorry I didn’t go here in the first place.

I gathered a list of top-​rated shops in Petaluma from Unilocal with the intent to call them all and compare pricing on fixing my flat tire. I called Bill and Jays first, and didn’t even bother to call anyone else after that. The guy on the phone was straight forward, down-​to-​earth, and estimated it’d be $ 20. No appointment needed, just drop by.
I dropped by on my lunch break; someone was with me right away, dropped what he was working on, took care of my flat tire in less than 15 minutes, aired up my spare before putting it in its spot under the trunk, had the repaired tire on there, I payed my $ 20 and was on my way. Super fast, easy, and I think a perfectly reasonable price.
I rarely sign in and give reviews, but I drove away from there with a huge relief and feeling like my whole day was better, so I figure they earned a good review.

This is by far the best shop around! The owners are amazing and really care about there customers. They go above and beyond expectations and never cease to amaze me. I recommend everyone to this place and always receive the best feedback! They are honest, quick, and detailed. They take time out of their day to explain exactly what was happening with the car and actually care. I would never trust my car to anyone but these guys they are truly one of a kind! I feel very lucky to of found a shop I can trust. If your looking for a shop this is the place, you will not find anyone better then these guys! I can’t count how many times they have saved me and made fixing my car a painless and fun experience where I actually learned along the way! Unilocal needs more stars!!! Simply the best!

My first time here was a few years ago when my Honda wouldn’t pass smog because it needed a new oxygen sensor. So I brought it here and they went ahead and ordered the part and installed it but discovered only the dealership could do it. So they uninstalled it. Something to do with the computer. So I came back to pick it up and asked how much. Nothing. I was shocked. They wouldn’t take a dime from me. So ever since I needed some work done on my car I come here. Every time I get the bill I’m shocked by how reasonable it is. These guys are so honest! They also do great work and get it done fast. I wish I could give them 100 stars!

Bill and J’s is awesome. I feel they not only do a great job attending to your car but the customer is also well taken care of. I have never felt confident as a woman when dealing with car repairs and maintenance. Now I do. It is because I feel treated with dignity specially as an older woman. My two cents. Janet

Bill & Jay’s never fails to astound me. This week they fit me in on a moment’s notice, were quick and efficient, and charged me less than half of what I was expecting. Comfortable waiting area, friendly and great service. What more can you ask?

My whole family has been coming here for years. Best shop in Petaluma and Sonoma County in my opinion. Accurate, HONEST, friendly and good people all around. We’ve treated us with a timely turnaround and the utmost respect. Class act mechanics and shop all around. Thank you guys for keeping the standards I would recommend to anyone out there looking for the auto services you provide.

Jay & his whole team are thorough and HONEST. I’m hesitant to even take my car to get it’s oil changed anywhere else. Having absolutely no knowledge about cars, it would be easy for a mechanic to pull one over on me and claim that my car needed work it didn’t.
My parents have taken their cars here for years and I will never take mine anywhere else. They do not charge an arm and a leg for repairs (the most I’ve paid is $ 155) and I have even walked out of there with no charge at all when they couldn’t find a problem. I’ll never take my car anywhere else!

Honest, Fair, and inexpensive.
You can trust this business and they will go out of their way to save you money. Here is an example of a business interaction a few years ago. After getting ripped off buying tires from big O, they told me I also needed to replace my brakes as they were worn.
I was skeptical because of how they treated me and my tire purchase so I brought my Camry to bill & jay and left it for the afternoon. They called me shortly after informing me my brakes were fine. When I went to pick up my car I asked what the charge was for their time and labor. Jay said $ 0! I was so impressed and surprised I tried to offer them $ 40 for their work and saving me money on brakes that I did not need. He refused to take my money.
Support your local businesses especially those that are as fair and honest as this one.
If you want a mechanic you can trust this is it!

Bill & Jay’s is simply the best. Jay couldn’t be a better guy. I have been taking my cars to him and his folks for 7+ years. I started working in Petaluma and wanted a good mechanic. A couple of the guys that worked with me in Petaluma recommended Jay’s to me.
I can’t say enough good things about Jay and his staff. They have NEVER let me down. And Gals — if you are looking for a bunch of mechanics that won’t lie to you or charge you for tons of things you have no idea about… you know the usual B.S. then come to Bill & Jay’s. Jay nor his guys have ever talked down to me, rolled their eyes etc. I ask tons of questions and always always ask them for referrals to other automotive services. They have always answered me and have always led me to good people. Jay & Bill’s tire shop being one of them. And yes there is no relation between them.
I hope Jay doesn’t retire for a long long time, and if he does, I pray he teaches one of his guys how to take on the business, so they carry this great business on to the next generation.
Good customer service is still alive in California… it’s call Bill & Jay’s.

More to say: Jay is like having a GOOD relative be a mechanic. I too have never experienced a more honest guy in business! He is laid-​back and incredibly personable too. I sent a friend to him recently and she reported back, that he was such an incredible guy! She said he told her that she didn’t need the repairs yet, that she could wait. She told me her jaw dropped when he said this. He knew she was currently unemployed and struggling. She was worried that whatever was going on with her car, would ruin her car. He reassured her what was happening and that she could wait another 3 – 6 mos to bring it in. This is the kind of guy Jay is. You’re the best Jay!
