I had my VW Jetta in a local garage in Sonoma for more than 2 months costing more than $ 1,500 in repairs. And they could never figure out the problem. I took it to Ingmar at Sonoma Autowerks and he fixed everything in an afternoon for a couple of hundred dollars. And magically got my check engine light to turn off — a feat that no one has been able to do for many years. As a result I was easily able to get my car slogged. I’ll never take my car anywhere else.

These guys are the best. I’ve had my fair share of dealing with shoddy mechanics and service departments so I was skeptical about taking my car anywhere to begin with but, all the reviews for Sonoma Autowerks spoke for themselves. I took my 2012 VW Jetta into the shop and they quoted me justly, in addition to having the work done in a reasonable amount of time. In my family we have several VWs and we will continue to take our cars here in the future. Thanks Eric and Ingemar, you guys are dope.

I am a pretty capable DIY home mechanic
After diagnosing and testing many suspect systems on my lady’s Audi A4, I came to Sonoma Autowerks in person
I spoke with the owner and he listened to all the information I had gathered, directed me to the most likely suspect (which had slipped my attention with both haynes and online forums) and indicated that normally he’d have the replacement part in the shop as a tester essentially.
I very much appreciate the kind treatment and will definitely bring the car to their specialty shop when requiring further attention

I am so grateful to find these guys to work on my VW Beetle. They always provide a fair estimate and do the job well and in a timely manner. The shop is simple and they run it «old school» style. I prefer their style to the suits at the dealer by a long shot. We are planning to buy another VW, so we will keep them busy with our business. Ingemar and Eric are the best mechanics I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

These guys are the best around. I have taken my wife’s Jetta to them several times for general servicing and for a few mechanical issues. Very personable people and well knowledgable. Great guys. They do professional quality work at great rates! They’re not out there trying to sell you something you don’t need. I would definitely recommend bringing your car to them for anything. I’m glad to know there are honest mechanics locally. Not only will they talk to you about your car, but it’s also easy to engage in friendly conversation with both of them. These guys are awesome, bottom line. If you have a problem with your car take it to them, you won’t be unsatisfied.

ingemar and Eric are the real deal. Brought my 2009 Tiguan in a month or so ago for a wheel bearing. They fixed it quicker than when they expected and called as soon as it was ready. I dropped by this morning in a pinch with a failed PCV valve. Ingemar diagnosed it within seconds and fixed it within minutes even though they were totally booked for the day. (It helped of course that they happened to have the part on hand). They set the bar for service. They should get a commission if I buy another VW or Audi. I’m considering it just because I know where I can take it for great service.

Can’t say one bad thing about these guys! Eric and Ingamar put up with me and my crappy car for years now. Nothing but absolute professionalism. They really know their stuff when it comes to Audi’s and Volks. Don’t take your car anywhere else.

I have taken a break from writing reviews because of all the bogus and crappy Unilocal reviews, but when I feel the need to express something about a business that is either top notch or below satisfactory I take a minute to write a quick review.
The engine indicator light came on my Audi S Line and also needed an oil change. Was going to drive to dealer out of town and came across this shop on Unilocal.Boy what a find. I called them and asked how long for an oil change service. He called me back and Eric said he could fit me in that morning. Eric troubleshooted the error code and couldn’t find anything wrong with it, he told me he could throw parts at it, but at this time it was reading fine on the diagnostic. Changed the oil and parking light that was out. I also mentioned that it was downshifting kind of hard and he checked the settings and reset the tranny. This shop is top notch. No bullshit upselling like at the dealers, great customer service, excellent work and fair labor prices. These type of mechanic shops that a) are certified and know what they are doing on German cars and b) are honest and do it at a fair price are hard to come by these days. Definitely coming back for all service and inspection needs while I live in the area.

My mom has been taking her car here for a couple years and these guys are the best. They are honest and so nice. If you have an Audi or Volkswagen I highly recommend them!

Best Audi/​VW garage hands down best in Sonoma County. They have so much experience that they could diagnose the problem based on sound. Fast Fair and Friendly. They are equally good at doing the work.

Good garages are hard to find, especially for finicky engines such as those from VW. Eric is very polite and knowledgeable, and didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need. Not only was the work done correctly the first time, but the price was right, and I felt comfortable with him working on my car. I would definitely recommend this garage to a friend.

I am laughing at the 2 people that downrated these guys because they do not have a secretary. Thats because they don’t, and we don’t pay for extra services we don’t need. These are two very well trained VW Master Mechanics who run the shop in a manner that permits them a reasonable life style. I have an almost new GTI. Free service at the dealers (but they won’t rotate tires). At the dealers: Bring it in early, leave it all day (no loaners) and done 8 hrs later, pretending they did more than they did.
But, at Sonoma Auto Works, I call for service, and they give me a bunch of available times. I drive down, go out for coffee, and walk right back. Done. No Bullshit, just fast and inexpensive service. The dealers (Both Santa Rosa and San Rafael) have yet to see my car. These guys know what they are doing, and do it efficiently and relatively inexpensively. Thats why I go back

I was referred to Sonoma Autowerks by my own mechanic as Sonoma Autowerks specializes in Volkswagen and Audi cars. They are very knowledgeable. Eric kept in phone contact with me in regards to what they found wrong with my daughter’s 2001 VW Beetle. Always provided the cost for each with repair and the job was done the same day.
I highly recommend this business for Volkswagen and Audi auto repairs!

Just did my 60k service here for my Jetta– TDI. The dealership told me that it would be approximately $ 879! They did it a Sonoma Autowerks for under $ 400. So nice to go somewhere and know that they are NOT ripping you off. I cant recommend this place enough.

Smog station dude told me to go see these guys to fix an engine light-​on issue. Same issue that 2 dealers and another place could not fathom over the last few years. Ingemar had it down in a second! Cool, laid-​back, helpful, to me and the guy ahead of me; more courtesy than ever seen at these places, cool music blasting. I am going to bring my Jetta here from now on. My boyfriend and I like it all so much we want to take Ingemar out to the Mystic or something, he is such a cool dude. And people who work smart, like what they do, excel at it and also work well with people have the edge.

On a scale of 1 – 5, Igmar and Eric are a ten. I made the mistake of buying an old VW Jetta. Igmar did an amazing and thorough job going through it, educating me about it and fixing ALL of it’s problems. Then, I made another mistake and purchased an old Range Rover with a few problems. Knowing how awesome these guys are, I asked to see if they would make an exception for my Rover; Eric did. He did a stellar job on a vehicle that is not his specialty and now it’s my daily driver and commuter between Chico State and Petaluma. These guys have always treated me well, treated my vehicles well and are incredibly fair with their prices with ZERO BS. You can’t go wrong with this shop, two very stand up, honest and genuine guys.

Using the email address posted on the Sonoma Autowerks website, I emailed them asking for a service quote since I don’t have a lot of opportunities to make phone calls during the day. Days later, still no response.
So, I went out of my way to make time to call them and they were friendly enough on the phone. However, when I asked for a quote, the guy wanted over DOUBLE the amount in labor fees than four other reputable performance shops in the Bay Area. I know this kind of work isn’t cheap and I don’t expect it to be, but I’ve done my research and I know what labor costs should be for this kind of job. I wouldn’t mind paying slightly more money at a shop that I know does quality work, but over twice the amount in labor fees is just silly, especially for just an ECU reflash.
I’m sure these guys are knowledgable and friendly, but they didn’t make a good first impression on me so unfortunately, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

I wish I could give this place 6 stars, because that’s what they honestly deserve. If your factory warranty has expired and you need routine maintenance, inspection, or a major service you would be a fool to take your German car anywhere else.
These guys are master and ASE certified in addition owning a mêlée of various technical and mechanical certifications. Also, were both dealer trained at Sonnen Motorcars in San Rafael… so as far as a mechanical resume goes, it’s a Harvard. They are incredibly honest, straightforward, knowledgeable, and very time efficient. You may not get a car wash after your service here like you would at the dealership, but you will get a far more detailed and thorough inspection with a nice chunk of surplus cash in your pocket to buy several car washes at some other place.
When I got back to pick up my keys, all details from inspection were in front of me and I was able to shoot a bunch of questions at Eric and Ingmar and receive detailed explanations, unheard of. Do your car and pocketbook a favor and check this place out for yourself. Then get back on here and you will understand why I recommended ⁶⁄₅ stars here.

We have 3 VWs and just moved to Sonoma County. We left our great VW mechanic behind, in San Diego. I had a check engine light come on in my Passat shortly after arriving up here and came to Sonoma Autowerks based upon the Unilocal reviews.
Wow … everyone’s Unilocal reviews here is spot on.
From my first call to the shop to the friendly and professional service I was very happy with my interactions. There is even a sweet old dog that rambles around the shop and cool music to boot. We will definitely be using this shop for our VW service needs.
