Armen’s Custom Tailor

Armen is a good man, let alone a good tailor.
He’s an honest man who will treat your garments with great care.
So far I’ve had a couple of my jeans tapered, hemmed and jacket sleeves hemmed as well.
He also glued up a big tear on my leather jacket and promised to sew it together at no cost if the glue ever fell apart. He said it would look better with the glue in the back to hide the rip instead of stitching it which might make it stand out even more. I agreed and I’m glad I did after seeing the final product. They came out perfectly. If they ever fall apart I know whom I can count on.
With the jeans, I wanted them tapered a little more and he offered to do it for free without a moment of hesitation. If you’re not satisfied with his work, which will rarely happen, if ever, he will gladly redo it for you.
I’m interested in learning all these techniques and every time I drop off or pick up my garments he would give me short lessons on different methods of sewing as well.
He is a skilled tailor attentive to minuscule details.
Sensible man with great work ethics.
A good friend I can trust my clothes with.

Armen is the man. I pretty much get everything you could imagine altered here. I bought 3 suits, 3 shirts and 3 ties for 1000 dollars. Suits fit perfect and don’t tear like those budget Joseph a bank suits. I take him fabric to sew on shirts for me, at a less than reasonable price but hey, he’s a professional and they come out great. Dude is just the man and amazing at what he does. Period.

I almost wish I had more things to get fitted, snipped and tucked. I was in a wedding recently, and made an appointment through Macy’s, where I got my bridesmaids dress. They only appointment I could get was really close to the wedding date, and during business hours. I would have had to take time off work and drive all the way to Jersey for this. Screw that.
I found Armen through Unilocal and took a chance since he is 5 minutes away from my house. When I called, no appointment was needed. He told me to just stop by any time after work, so I did. I was in and out of there in less than 20 minutes. Which was great considering it was an incredibly hot and humid day and all I could think about was going home to my air conditioning. Armen didn’t waste any time after I got into my dress and had pinned me up, made his marks, and even a few suggestions, while being very personable and friendly. It was no problem getting my dress in time for the wedding, even if further alterations were needed. He told me though, «that won’t be necessary,» and well heck, he was right. Went back and my dress fit perfectly.
The price was a little higher that I thought it’d be. Nothing exorbitant, but for the convenience and time he saved me, not to mention the opportunity to help support a small, local business, I didn’t mind shelling out a few extra bucks. I would definitely come back here and recommend him to any of my friends.

Armen has thus far altered two suits and a number of shirts for me and I have been more than satisfied with his services. He is always kind, warm, and friendly, and I really enjoy chatting with him while he works.
He is also very forthright in helping customers to understand his recommendations and pricing. In shortening shirt sleeves, he always presents me with two options so that I can make an informed decision based on style and price, which I really appreciate about him.
I have sent several friends to him for alterations or to buy custom suits and they have all been very pleased. Others reviewers have complained about or questioned pricing. I don’t know a lot about what’s reasonable versus what’s not, but I view a tailor like a barber or hairstylist– I’m willing to pay for quality work and a welcoming environment.
I should add that Armen’s shop is incredibly busy, but he has still turned around an entire suit’s worth of alterations for me in as little as three days when I had a last minute event to attend (TWICE, no less)– and I know that he stayed after hours to do so, without tacking on any rush charges.
He’s just a good guy that does good work, and I will continue to use his services and refer friends to him for as long as I live in Philadelphia.

Rude with no customer service if he isn’t selling you a suit or a pair of 150.00 jeans.
I took a pair of jeans that were too big to Armen’s last month to be tailored since he advertises himself as a «denim specialist». The jeans needed to have the waist taken in and the rise shortened in the front and back — all of this was made clear to Armen himself at the first visit. I was told the jeans would be ready in a week.
Not only were the jeans not ready after a week, they weren’t even touched. I walked into the store to pick them up and was greeted by an employee who told me that if I came back an hour later, the jeans would be ready. Hmmm. Why did I have to wait a week if the work only took an hour? I explained that I didn’t want the alterations to be a rush job, so it was decided that I would come back in two days to pick them up.
When I returned, Armen simply handed me the jeans — when I explained that I wanted to try them on, he told me there was no need. I said I’d like to anyways and he threw an annoyed look and shrugged. I tried on the jeans and *shocker * they were still huge, especially in the crotch area. I came out of the dressing room and asked him why the alterations that were agreed upon weren’t completed and he said that there was nothing he could do about the rise of the jeans and that he took the waist in and that was all that could be done. I voiced my disappointment and he shrugged me off in a very dismissive and very rude manner.
I ended up taking the jeans to the Plymouth Tailor in the Plymouth Meeting Mall who fixed the rise of the jeans without any issue at all and for half the price that Armen’s charged.

Words cannot express the level of excellence and skill Armen has for clothing and alterations. I began a Cross Fit program about 2 years ago and lost 60 lbs. I took my five basic business suits to him. He took the time to «SCULPT» each suit to my body. He spent the time showing the differences in fabrics, the best suit cuts and styles for my body type. From that point on, I have never bought another suit off of a rack from men’s department store. By the time you buy the suit and have it altered, you would have roughly paid the same amount for a custom suit made by Armen. You pick your fabric, the cut and Armen works his magic. It is in the best words «an experience» that I feel many professionals who wear ready-​made business attire miss out on. I can not wait for my wedding day when I can have our custom tailored tux’s made by Mr. Armen himself.

I have been using Armen for years! Whether I’ve had jeans that needed to be hemmed, or I needed a dress altered, he has been my go to tailor. Recently, I took him a dress which needed some extensive work done. I am quite busty so I sometimes need darts to be put into dresses so they fit me well etc. This dress was a whole other project though. After taking him a dress and the material to match, I asked him to add small paneling on either side seam to give me about an inch on each side to fit my bust. I just picked up my dress and I’m blown away. It literally is PERFECT! The workmanship and time taken is extremely evident and I cannot wait to wear the dress! Armen is hands down a truly talented tailor for any job big or small! His pricing is competitive for the quality of work so express your needs, share with him your budget and be prepared for a perfect outcome! Communication with this talented tailor is key.

I don’t usually write reviews but Armen has on multiple occasions done excellent work for me. I’m quite sure ive taken every piece of workwear I own to him at some point (I lost 50 lbs and it was big to begin with) and he made it fit like a glove. Also in reference to the suits he has in stock don’t worry, they fit excellent and are worth the investment. Cannot comment on the custom shirts or suits yet but probably going to try them out in the near future. Armen has always but nothing but friendly and courteous to me and I would recommend him to any and everyone, especially you gentlemen who think you look good in off the rack anything :-). He will make you 100 suit look like its got a couple more zeroes I promise.

Best in the business! I’ve had so many different items tailored by Armen in the past seven years and every time I’m beyond pleased with the outcome. He’s tailored everything from bridesmaid dresses to pants to work suits, always making them fit perfectly. My most recent visit was no different, except this time I needed a miracle. I had a dress that was too small. I knew if anyone could fix it, it would be Armen. He went and picked out the fabric to specifically match the dress and then expertly sewed the new fabric into the dress. And the best part is that he didn’t charge me more for his extra time and effort. He takes pride in his customer relationships and because of that and his unbelievable talent, I will continue to bring my business to Armen… and you should too!

I recently brought a new dress into Armen’s for some basic alternations (the chest and waist needed to be taken in a little). It’s been over 4 years since my last visit for bridesmaid dress alteration and Armen said he recognized me. I feel like that was forever ago and he must see a ton of people, but it was flattering nonetheless.
The entire process was a breeze. I tried on the dress, he measured me, I paid and he told me when to come back. The dress was supposed to be ready after 5:00 on our specified day, but I gave a call around noon was able to pick it up a few hours early. He did a great job with the alterations and now the dress fits me perfectly.
In terms of pricing, I’m really not sure where Armen’s Custom Tailor stacks up. I just know that I trusted him with my dress and that’s well worth what I paid.

I had my wedding dress altered by Armen (hem and straps) and it came out beautifully. It’s the perfect length and fit; I can’t wait to wear it!

Not a suit guy by any stretch of the imagination, and my man Armen took care of me. He got me looking fresh for the upcoming wedding season!

I have brought all of my tailoring to Armen for seven years, and have even bought suits from him. He can do anything: suit and shirt tapering, sleeve shortening, pant hemming, bringing in seats, and fully reconstructing coats amongst the few. A great tailor is worth his or her weight in gold. And, in today’s world of mass customization and mass production, custom tailoring in the fine European tradition has become a dying art. Armen is one of the last great tailors in the Northeastern United States, and I would come from most anywhere to have work done by him.

I have been going to Armen’s Custom Tailor since 2004 and would recommend to anyone. His prices are great but his quality is amazing. He also now carries a very large selection of quality, well made and VERY affordable suits. Anything from pants, shirts, sweaters, coats. You name it, he can custom tailor it to your needs. If anyone ever asks, I tell them to look no further. And if something isnt just right, he will fix it for you free of charge. Great emphasis on quality all around.

He is a really nice guy and will walk you through everything if you’re not familiar with how things should fit. When I picked my suit up, though, the girl behind the counter was sleepy and seemed annoyed I walked in. That does not warrant less than five stars, though!

Armen is not only the best tailor I’ve ever been too, but an honest guy that goes out of his way to help his customers. Below are a few examples:
1. I needed a suite tailored for a wedding in two days. He worked hard to get it done for me!
2. If I’m not satisfied with his work (which is very very rare), he fixes it for free. In fact, he kept fixing it free-​of-​charge until it was to my exact liking.
3. I work late hours and a lot of times can’t get to his store until 5 minutes after his store closes. However, if I call, he’ll wait for me every time! I even was once 15 minutes late and he was still there.
4. He gave me an Italian dress shirt once, as a gift because I brought him so much business (he fixed all my clothes!).
I highly recommend Armen. In fact, I referred a friend to Armen once, and this friend has now moved out of Philadelphia. To this day, if my friend’s clothes ever need alterations, he travels all the way back to Philadelphia, to Armen’s store. They day I move from Philly, I’ll probably do the same!

Wow. I basically take back everything I said in my original post! The major alterations on my peacoat are still good, but Armen sewed up a hole in one of the pockets and the stitching he did came out almost immediately. Even worse, since I was initially so pleased with my peacoat, I took 2 of my wife’s work pants to Armen to be hemmed. Both hems in both pants completely came out the first time she wore them. She had them fixed at her dry cleaner for $ 4 each pair (compared to the $ 30 total Armen charged for both pairs).
I have no idea what happened, but unfortunately, I don’t have confidence going back to him now.

Armen is a true craftsman! I took a couple pairs of jeans to have them shortened with the original hem. I’ll never use another tailor!

Does great work and anything you want. I get compliments on my cheapest suits, also does great work with leather and jeans.

Do you spend entirely too much on «designer» jeans only to have those fashionably frayed hems lose their fashionable fray when you get them altered. If that sounds familiar, then Armen’s may be the place for you. Pricey jeans hemming– we’re talking more than $ 20 to keep the original hem– but worth it if your’re paying more than $ 150 for those jeans in the first place. They do a fantastic job, but it ain’t cheap. Would totally recommend it but here’s a tip– buy from Nordstrom and they hem for free :)
