I will admit that I do not regularly go to a salon to get my hair done. I like to keep it EXTRA simple, so if I feel like coloring my hair(which I have only done twice), I’m comfortable having a friend help me do it at home. I told you, simple. I decided I wanted to get an ombré style color job a few weeks ago and don’t trust myself DIY-ing it so I went to M’s on the Square. The woman who greeted me(and did my hair) was very very nice the entire time, but I will say that the whole appointment felt rushed… she did the whole coloring in less than an hour and a half(I was told it should take 3 hours). The end result – my hair turned out TERRIBLY. It is not ombré AT. ALL. Not only is it not ombré, but it looks like a really bad highlighting job. My hair is dark brown naturally, and I’m left with random, very blonde highlights that are chunky and that are only on SOME tips of my hair. The top is all my natural brown(as it should be) and the bottom is PLATINUMBLONDE with absolutely no in-between, no transitioning color, no gradual change. I even noticed that some locks of hair go from dark brown to blonde BACKTO dark brown at the end… just one middle chunk of hair on the strands were highlighted! I’ve been wearing my hair in a ponytail ever since!!! I’m looking at other places to get it redone now and it’s going to cost me over $ 120. Very very disappointed, to say the least. Maybe I should have just kept it simple!

I have been getting my hair colored for over 6 years– everything from blonde to black, highlights to full coverage. I was lucky in that I never had a horrific salon experience… until I moved to Philly. And this happened twice in a row. I completely lost faith in others coloring my hair(for high prices too!!) and decided to start self coloring via box color. This was OK for a while, but the build up from the box color starting getting to me and I needed to break the constant color cycle. I am a student and on a budget, I decided to see what Groupon had to offer. M’s on the Square had a special going and I decided to give it a try. BESTDECISION I have made in a while. Marialana was so easy to speak with and totally understood what I was looking for. I expressed my disappointment in past coloring experiences here in the city and she assured me that my faith would be restored, and sure enough she was right. I just got a partial, but she did a great job and gave me exactly what I wanted. I can only imagine how amazing the total product would look if I went in for a full on cut and color! I will definitely go back and pay full price, it is reasonably priced and totally worth it!

Extremely friendly staff at M’s on the square. It’s a really small salon that is tucked away in the Hopkinson House condo building, so it’s not the easiest to find… but the doorman was very helpful in guiding me to the right location. I was pretty pleased with my ‘do, not overly thrilled – but it was okay. I’m still adjusting to my new shorter locks, so I think I may just be highly critical of anyone who attempts to cut my hair. I had a groupon that I used, so I can’t comment on their pricing, but I’m pretty certain I’ll venture down there for another cut.

Great place. Very small, but stylists were very nice and did a great job on my hair. They were also very quick!

So, I bought a Groupon for a Keratin Treatment from this place. I have gotten Keratin treatments before so I know what they are really supposed to be like. After a few weeks, it was like I hadn’t gotten the treatment at all. What a waste of money! I think they use a cheap brand, and the process itself was a lot different then the other times as well— a mask? Wash within 24 hours of the treatment? Other then that, this place is a bit of a hole in the wall– hard to find, small, and not really what I expected from a salon in this area. Maybe this is why when I was there, it seemed like every client who was there was above the age of 70 and was getting a set of rollers done. With my treatment, I also got a haircut which wasn’t bad, and the ladies were all nice, especially the shampoo girl.

Maria was everything you want in someone who does your hair; attentive, quick, and nice. She actually listened when I told her what I wanted to do with my hair and gave me a great haircut and conditioning treatment. With female haircuts starting at $ 45, it’s a really great place! It’s located inside the Hopkinson house.

I have been searching for a hairstylist all over Philadelphia and I have finally found one I’m ready to commit to. Marialana is wonderful! She consistently gives me a great hair cut and fabulous color that actually looks natural! I have long, fine hair and though I do not ever like to take time to style my hair, I still want it to look stylish when I leave the house. I’ve paid twice as much at many other salons around the city only to be disappointed with the cut after I wash and try to style it myself. I love my hair now. Color was another difficulty for me. People would dye it too dark or too light or the color would fade way to fast. Marialana chose the perfect color for my hair the very first time I saw her. It doesn’t fade fast, the color is rich but not dark and doesn’t show ‘red’ or look ‘brassy’ in the sun or certain lighting. It is also ammonia– free which is really important to me. I am extremely happy with this salon and with my hair. Thank you, M’s on the Square!

I’ve tried so many salons in Philadelphia only to discover this place that’s been in my building all along! The stylists have long beautiful hair themselves and they offer the most attentive services I’ve ever had. I have very thick dark hair and it’s hard for me to find a good salon where a stylist has the expertise and experience in knowing how to cut it.

Just got an amazing haircut here today. I told her I haven’t cut my hair in 6 months but I had an important job interview tomorrow(and that I wouldn’t have time to do anything with it in the morning). She inspected my hair, asked how layered I wanted it, what I wanted to do for bangs, etc. and an hour later, my hair was washed, cut, and perfectly blow-dry’ed. She was very attentive to the little details I gave her and she cut my very long hair to the perfect professional but still playful length. The blow-out was so well done, I rode my bike to reading terminal and then home, and it still looks great. For bonus points, my bf said my hair looks absolutely amazing several times.

I got a Keratin treatment done here and it was AWFUL. I’ve had them done before and they took all the curl out of my hair. However, when I got it done at M’s on the Square, my curl was back in less than a week(despite following all the directions). I might as well have flushes $ 150 down the toilet. DONOTGOHERE.

when i met Marialana i instantly trusted her to cut my hair, which is completely not what i do. she did an amazing job. i loved the cut when i walked out and i still loved it after i did my hair my self. the shape and style complimented my features and did not make me look chubby like i usually do after i get my hair cut. the salon is a little hard to find but marialana met me out side so it was not problem. which she said is a standard for first time customers. i have no reason to cut my own hair in philly ever again.

Marialana Romagnoli has been styling my hair for a few years now and she has always been great. Lately, she recommended that I did the Rejuvenol Keratin Treatment and that’s the best thing that ever happened to my hair. The salon is a hidden gem with smart, attentive, knowledgeable, friendly staff and totally affordable prices!
