R&R Mechanical Services

Our heat went out during the week & our landlord has an account with R&R. I was contacted almost immediately and offered same-​day, on-​call assistance, but I opted for a scheduled appointment the following day. The next day, the technician was supposed to arrive from 12 – 2, but he did not arrive until 2:45, without any prior notice that he was running late.
Upon arrival, he was very friendly and was able to diagnose our HVAC issue within a few minutes.
Went out to the truck, replaced a part & our heat was back on within 15 – 20 min. He was a pro!

I have been avoiding writing a review of R+R because I feel such tremendous guilt not being able to give them 5 Stars…
The project was the relocation of our Existing Air Handler from one area of our basement to another, while editing some of the existing duct work (primarily our VERY enormous Air Return, which I affectionately referred to as a Sandworm ala Bettlejuice). We contacted 5 HVAC Contractors, including R+R to bid the job (based on Unilocal and Angie’s List Reviews).
I quickly realized why R+R had such high reviews and everyone was stoked on their customer service. I called to schedule an appointment with Rosa who was friendly and helpful. Ramon came, exactly at the scheduled time (with a text notification he was on his way!) and was friendly, personable, and professional. He was very thorough and I felt 100% confident in hiring him and his team to do work in our home. For those curious, of the 5 Contractors we called we received 3 quotes – and R+R’s was right in the middle (and from what I could tell, totally worth it).
The first day the work was to be done, Mike + Tony (who were equally as professional and friendly) came on time and ready to work. The two day job certainly was not an easy one but these guys stayed in high spirits and reviewed any questions, comments or concerns they had with me as they went along. Overall the project was straightforward and painless for me as a homeowner – almost too good to be true!
At the end of the 2^nd day (just before 5pm and they had been there since just after 8am) Mike made it clear they had another job to go to. They reviewed a few things with me, told me I could turn the AC back on, and we seemed good to go. In looking around, I noticed a few areas where the ducts had not been sealed (or were missing mastic) and air was leaking pretty significantly. They had me go around all of the ducts and locate any leaks and seal anything I felt was an issue while they were on the phone (presumably with the next client). I was a little concerned about this (since I am not a professional HVAC Contractor) but went with it.
The next morning, although the AC was on it was NOT cold. We called R+R and Mike came out pretty soon thereafter. Within minutes he diagnosed that the Motor had died and that it was going to be more money to have it replaced. They were quite insistent that this had nothing to do with the other work they completed and that I was going to have to pay. I was pissed, mostly because now Ramon would not speak to me and instead he and Mike spoke in Spanish on the phone with Mike as the middle man relaying back to me. This was beyond frustrating, but we agreed to a price and they came out and replaced the motor. This was another ½ a day job.
After they left I was bitter but I thought «OK. Put yourself in this situation as the Contractor. Maybe he’s right – he can’t control the age or functionality of the existing equipment». OK! I felt better about it and thought I would leave a solid 4 star review. Well… fast forward 10 weeks… and now it doesn’t work AGAIN! And this time, the thing that is broken IS something they replaced. I’m so disappointed. As a homeowner it is so hard to find good, quality workmanship. Overall, I was really bummed at the way Ramon handled it. :(

They returned this Spring and found the leak. Unfortunately the outside unit had to be replaced. We had another company come and take a look with the same conclusion, but R&R had a better price. They came this Friday and gave us a 11:00 — 1:00 time block. Showed up just before 1:00. Did a good job. Our AC is now running normally again!

The great customer service began with the initial phone call to schedule an appointment. The scheduler was clear of their services and knowledgeable
I made an appointment which was scheduled between 8am-​10am — the technician arrive at 9am and provided excellent service. His name was Mike Soto, very honest, straight forward and made me feel like I wasn’t being taken advantage of. Although my heating service was not restored; I was given a fair price to take further steps.
My chimney collapsed and it was recommended that I get a chimney liner, pretty steep cost; however he explained the safety hazzards and advised me to purchase carbon monoxide monitors.
I plan to contact R&R Mechanical Services to continue the work.

I wish all contractors were this good at what they do and this easy to work with.
Friendly, easy to schedule appoint, did not try to up sell or overcharge. (I have a family member who knows AC problems well and confirmed this was a spot on price for the work done.) The owner is the person who did the work. I like that they didn’t send out some newbie tech. They got my AC working again and I am happy.
Could I ask for more? Yep, he also helped me hook up my dehumdifier into a drain spout and hoist it onto a high shelf. He didn’t charge me — it only took 5 minutes. But I have a bad back and greatly appreciate that he took the time to do it.

I am very disappointed with R&R Mechanical and can not recommend them. During the visit I feel as though the staff, the technician on duty and his boss who was on the phone were using scare tactics to get me to purchase a furnace (Asked a few times if I had a carbon monoxide detector because if anything happened because I refused to have them replace furnace they did not want it on their conscience). I was charged 85.00 for a diagnostic which failed to yield the fact that I needed a new thermo coupler (The furnace stayed lit for 3 hours after the technician left. I was charged an additional 225.00 for a deep cleaning. When I called someone else in the next day they quesitoned the «cleaning» of the furnace. The Better Business Bureau along with any other entity I can think to contact needs to be aware of the business practices of Rand R Mechanical because I don’t want it on my conscience that other consumers could be taken advantage of by this company.

I don;t write Unilocal reviews but I had to after this last visit. R&R is to be trusted for your HVAC needs. The response time is incredible. We had a split system installed by another company when we renovated our home and it has been nothing but problems. We finally were recommended to call Ramon ar R&R and everytime we have an issue, he or other employees are there to solve the issue.
Mike came out this last time and was professional, knowledgeable and very helpful. He came prepared and was very pleasant. I strongly recommend using R&R.

This is only the second Unilocal review I’ve ever written, and because I found R&R through Unilocal,I had to share my experience. This company was literally a life-​saver for my family. Our heat was malfunctioning for weeks, and our old company came to our home no less than five times trying to fix it. Once it was apparent that they had no clue what they were doing, I called R&R. Ramon was able to identify the problem within two hours — and it was a potentially dangerous exhaust issue that went unidentified by our old company for weeks! Ramon even called them to let them know what they did wrong — anyway, I know Unilocal can be unreliable sometimes but in this case the stars are well deserved. Thank you again R&R!

Working with this company has been nothing but a pleasure. They are easy to contact, have small time windows (2 hours) for when you can expect them, give you a heads up (a phone call and a text) when they are coming, AND have Saturday hours.
I called them on a Thursday and was able to schedule someone to come out Saturday morning. (Other HVAC people have strung me along for weeks only to not even show during their scheduled window.)
Mike was really nice, walked me through exactly what he was doing, and told me how much it would cost. He was able to fix my AC problem that day and finished it within an hour.
He even took the time to check on my air filter to see if it needed to be changed and just made sure everything else was in working order.
I can’t say enough nice things about this company. They will absolutely be my go to from now on for HVAC issues.

So glad I found these guys as they saved me a ton of money. I first had another company come over when my HVAC system broke down last week, and was told I could either spend $ 700 for a new fan, or $ 3200 for an entirely new furnace, which he recommended since my system is about 20 years old already. The prices seemed a bit high but I agreed to have installation scheduled that following Monday. 5 minutes after he left, Mike from R&R came over — I didn’t even remember which companies I called to come over and thought I had only asked one to actually come so I was surprised, but I let him take a look at my system anyway. After about 5 minutes, my AC was back on — and he only charged me an $ 85 service fee for what he said was a simple issue that didn’t require any new parts. On the other hand, the other company charged me a non-​refundable $ 140 for complete incompetance. Mike did say that my system was old and was likely to need to be replaced in the near future, but he gave me a much cheaper quote for replacing the furnace, and now I get to make the most of my current system until it truly dies.

Had these guys come out for the third time in four years today. First two times were for heat and today was for the AC. Each time they have been exceedingly courteous and professional. I seriously don’t know the first thing about HVAC systems and today it was a simple problem that I could have been easily ripped off with, but the guy did a great job, cleaned out the system and it was really cheap. Always nice to find a repair company like this that generally does good work and doesn’t take advantage of people’s lack of knowledge!

This place is a ripoff! They sent a salesman to our place, not a repairman. The estimate to repair our heater was $ 1,000. My husband knows a bit about heating and air conditioning because he is a contractor, and he didn’t fall for anything the so called repairman told him. If you use this company, be prepared to receive inflated estimates to repair your heater or air conditioner.

After reading about this company on Unilocal I decided to give them a call to diagnose some A/​C issues I had this last July. Tech scheduled a visit (few days later) and informed me that my compressor was shot and would need to be replaced. he even tried several other options to get it started again, but to no avail. The other option was to instead replace the unit, which I went with. The quoted price seemed very fair, and was about half of what a neighbor in my building paid to have theirs replaced. The added cost and complexity of it being a roof mounted unit added less than I expected to the overall price, as it required a crane to deliver it.
All in all, I was happy with the experience. The tech that diagnosed and replaced my machine was friendly, thoroughly explained what the issue was/​options I had and was respectful in dealing with my neighbors, whos deck he needed to access to get to my condenser.
And since I replaced my unit with a newer, more efficient model, my cooling bills dropped significantly. Will definitely use them again for upkeep/​maintenance.

R&R is the best! I’ve been using them for the past three years now and have recommended them to my family and friends. Tony is great and so is everyone else I’ve dealt with from their company. They are fast, efficient, honest, friendly, knowledgeable, and alway explain everything to me so I fully understand what and why things need to be done. Tony wasn’t even annoyed with my super annoying cat that wouldn’t leave him alone :) I will continue to choose R&R for all of my future HVAC needs.

R & R arrived at the beginning of the time window for my appointment and got to work immediately. It turns out that there wasn’t much really wrong with my furnace, but Tony, the tech helping me, took time to explain everything, and actually made me less concerned about the overall state of my furnace and the likelihood of me needing a complete replacement anytime soon. I felt the price I paid ($ 190) was a little steep for no actual repairs, but I doubt another place would have been much cheaper. I felt good enough about my experience that I’ll call them first next time I need service.

I originally called upon another service to fix my heater, but they couldn’t figure it out. I called R&R and they sent Raul to my house within a few hours that same day. Within a half hour he identified the problem and fixed it. Raul took time to explain the problem with me and even taught me a few other things about my heating system. He was courteous, friendly, professional and very knowledgeable about HVAC systems.
From the initial call to completion I was treated well. R&R Mechanical is the best.

It’s Friday, and it’s hot as balls. My central air stops working. I flee to the ‘burbs in denial. Three days later (on Monday afternoon), I realize I should act like an adult and deal with the problem. I call R&R. They’re cheerful and reassuring, and they tell me they’ll be out between 8:00 and 10:00 AM the next day. Given the less-​than-​stellar luck I’ve had with contractors, I don’t hold my breath. And then at 9:00 AM, Ramon shows up, unphazed by the howling furballs that launch at him as soon as I open the door. Within five minutes, he’s diagnosed the problem (my fan motor is kaput). He tells me exactly how much it will take to fix it, then proceeds to get it working within an hour – and with considerably less noise than before. He checks my freon and explains the benefits and drawbacks of adjusting the level. He replaces my air filter. He cleans up and leaves with a smile and a check that is far less than I expected when the AC broke. I’m a cool cat again, and I’ll be using R&R for duct cleaning, chimney cleaning and every other HVAC issue that arises from now on. Now excuse me while I go sprawl across the air vent in my underwear. Ahhhhh…
