University of Pennsylvania Computer Connection

Computer Connection has moved — they’re now on the second floor of the UPenn «Book”-store.
Selection for laptops is pretty slim.
Service seems to have declined. Salespeople are not as helpful as I remember. I was asking for info about the computers they sell & it seemed difficult to get the info I was looking for. I was told I could just look up the information online, which is a bit weird — what’s the point of having a brick-​and-​mortar store if I’m just being told to go online?
I walked in wanting to buy a new portable computer. I walked out realizing that Computer Connection was not a good place to do so.

Not open at all this weekend. I have no idea if that’s a new rule like the blue laws in Bergen county or they just don’t want to make money.
Anyway, located on the second floor of the Penn Bookstore now, rather than the first.

If you’re a member of the Penn community, you might think that Computer Connection would be the obvious store for your computer needs. I’d recommend thinking again.
In their favor, they have an ok selection of products, or at least can order a lot of products in, and their hours are good.
Unfortunately (as another reviewer has mentioned), their customer service is truly terrible. If you are ordering a computer (where you have to choose specs and give various details), you will likely be spoken down to and treated like a bad-​behaved four year-​old. When I’ve phoned them to ask about the process for ordering computer equipment, I’ve been confidently told one thing («come into the store!») only to be berated by someone else when I arrived (no, really) because I hadn’t done it online and that I would now be wasting his time.
There are better, cheaper and more pleasant places to buy from.

Quick note. The staff are required to ask for your school ID because this Commonwealth of Pennsylvania taxes them differently depending on whether the purchase is for the academic community. Just have your Penncard ready and it will be quick and easy transaction.

I love coming to the Computer Connection. It’s like going to the Apple store… only with less pretense. The small size means that the staff is always available and helpful, and they never seem «too busy» to answer a question. I can get in and get out with ease, or even stop in to take advantage of the staff’s computer-​related expertise without feeling like a moron. Yay for a local store and not a big chain store.

I’m giving a 1 star review because of exceptionally rude service. They do have overpriced merchandise, but that is to be expected at a University affiliated store. Both of these combined ensure that I will never be coming back.
I bought a macbook air using their student discount today. I’m a new student so I wasn’t set up with a Penn ID yet. They had to look my name up in the University database with my ID. When I handed the employee my driver’s license, he said I wasn’t in the system. I asked him a few questions to make sure he had searched for me correctly, such as making sure he was looking under the right school within the university. At this point, he became extremely defensive and rude. He responded, «There is no one in the University named Crystal (my middle name)». After I told him that he had my last name wrong, he responds, with an attitude, «Well that’s not what it says on your ID». Excuse me? I think I know better whether my ID has my last name on it or not. The employee doesn’t know how to read IDs with Last Name, First Name Middle Name format, and he has the gall to suggest that I don’t have the correct ID? I read on Unilocal about the better service here despite the high prices. I was utterly disappointed.

Have been going to this place ever since I was an undergrad. The people here are extremely knowledgeable and unlike bestbuy they actually know what they are talking about! The products are geared more towards Mac users and the prices could be better though.
If you have any student Id, not just only penn id you can get the education al discount of some products here.
Warning: You can’t buy any Apple products unless you have a valid penn card or drexel id!

I’ve been here twice in the last two weeks. This is a great place to get Apple accessories and print cartridges (I got ink for my Epson and a projector adaptor for my Mac). The store is connected to the Penn bookstore. Strangely, they always ask for my school ID when I buy things there. I have one, fortunately, but I’ve never thought to ask if I wouldn’t be able to buy things there if I didn’t have a school ID. I never noticed any significant discounts that would warrant school affiliation. Anyway, this is a good place to grab a phone charger or other tech accessory if you are in a pinch. Service has always been friendly too.

I never bought a PC from here but I bought other software. As a Penn student you get great discounts, financing, and (I’ve been told) better service.
If you’re a Penn student, you don’t need to read this revie, w though, as I’m certian you’ve alreadu been there to buy something. When the first 4^th gen iPod came out, kids were lined out into the street to get them. They have all of the new Mac stuff.

This is where I buy my computer (s).
A) You can get a massive college discount with a Penn or Drexel ID (or get somebody who still has one to do it for you)
B) They always have the latest schwag. In terms of Macs, their prices and packages are as good as the Apple Store directly.
C) Great customer service, though, they mean business and don’t like tire-​kickers.
The only drawback to me is… they only finance Penn students. To me, that’s discrimination… as credit is credit. Nonetheless, The Penn Computer Connection has been good to me, and my business stays loyal.
