Phoenix Puzzle Room

My boyfriend and I are leaving town soon and someone recommended this place to us as something we have to check out before we go. We went with his cousins that are all around the same age as us and we had a BLAST!
The idea is that you are stuck in a room and have 60 minutes to get out. You are guided by a series of clues and riddles.
Our group was a great mix of quiet observers, an engineer, a math major, and a few of us who watch too much Sherlock and hang out in Hyrule too much. Seriously, growing up addicted to Zelda games has never come so in handy as it did during this puzzle. We did it with 4 minutes left!
We had a lot of fun doing it and unlike other reviews, I didn’t have any problem with a group of 8 since not all of us were the «lead and take charge» type. If you have multiple of those in the small room with little communication, I could see how it could be overwhelming.
Andy was a great host and I absolutely recommend this place for group bonding and family get togethers (if you like your family, that is).

Like almost all other reviewers, the entrance is hard to find but also stares right at you when you do finally come across and it and feel like a complete idiot! We read about the complications of finding the location and we also read about how you’re not allowed to bring your personal items in. So we studied the map while parked and then left our personal belongings in the car. We were then stuck walking around downtown for about 10 minutes trying to find the entrance. Just a tip, there is an A frame sign on the floor outside the door so keep an eye out for that! We were looking for an obscure sign on walls and doors and it’s definitely not there. It’s actually a weird looking front door now that I think of it.
You can bring your personal belonging into the location with you (unlike what we did and were stuck without a phone to call for directions). They offer lockers with lockers in their small lobby so that you can place you items in there. That would’ve been nice to know before hand.
I’ve done many escape rooms before and I like how this place offers you to sign the waiver prior to showing up. They actually email it to the person who makes the reservation and includes a link to send it off to everyone else in the party. It makes the actual registration process easier when you get there. They do have multiple tablets there on hand for people who didn’t get to sign the waiver prior to getting there.
The room to escape out of was nice a large enough for the amount of people that was playing and the clues were thoughtfully put together. Although I did have an issue with the clue master who was helping us along during the game. It seemed like he/​she wasn’t fully paying attention to where we were at during the game. Because when we asked for a clue, we were given something that was already unlocked. luckily I was able to figure that out immediately and request another clue but some of the strangers on my team were stuck and immediately tried working on obscure locks thinking that the clue meant something, when in reality it didn’t. I felt like it just threw some people off and wasted time because I had to explain to them that it was a bad clue that was given and try to get everyone back on track.
I also felt like it was a bit dusty and dirty in the room. Like maybe they don’t regularly clean it from all the many people who come and play through.
But overall it was a good experience and I could see myself coming back and trying some of their other rooms.
We did get out with 6 minutes to spare! Even with getting frustrated working with strangers who may not have been the brightest.

My husband and I had a blast! We were teamed up with another group, which didn’t thrill me initially. However, once we got started, I quickly realized you need all types of thinkers to figure out the clues.
They gave us instructions when we arrived. Everyone had to place their cell phones in the furnished lockers, which made sense so as not to post pics of clues on social media. Afterwards, we were taken to the puzzle room where the door was promptly locked. (You are able to leave at any time, but cannot return during the hour.)
There isn’t much else I can say without giving anything away, but be prepared to have a grand, puzzling time.

This place is so fun! The puzzles were challenging and it was fun to work with friends as well as strangers. We were able to finish the puzzles and escape the room with seven minutes to spare. Was super fun, the staff was friendly, will totally go back!

I saw other escape rooms with better ratings and number of reviews but I took a risk because of price. Turned out to be an amazing time with excellent, fast pace, and enjoyable puzzle solving. It was the perfect amount of challenging. They know what they’re doing here. Definitely recommend– I’m sure their stars and number of reviews will fly up. It’s prob only this low number of reviews because they are a relatively newer escape room.

The Puzzle Room was fun and entertaining, good for all ages. The Jeweled Pachyderm room was awesome and we loved all of the creative clues. The puzzle maker is for clever and talented. The staff was amazing!

Ok, so a group of us (8) were looking for something to do. We decided on this place. I live in California, but have seen the Groupon for these located in LA and have always wanted to do it. Anyhow, we drove downtown and proceeded to sign our waivers. Yes you have to sign waivers to play the game. The gentleman who explained the rules and sat with us while the room was being reset was pretty cool. He answered all of the questions and was totally cool. When we entered the room, we didn’t know what to expect. The experience as a whole was great! We actually learned that we worked well together under pressure. We made it out with 3:03 seconds on the clock. It was a great experience and so much fun! So much so we are going to go and do it again next week!!! You will not be disappointed. However make sure to bring a complete group, if you don’t then you will be working with strangers. Although, that may be cool too.

Fantastic outing! The puzzle room was so much fun. Good way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Good for groups!!!

This was amazingly fun! I went with a group of 8 friends and we conquered the Pearled Pachyderm with 11 minutes to spare! I’m happy to say that it was challenging mentally even with 8 adults working on the clues together. If you like problem solving then this is definitely a must try. Can’t wait to go back and do the second room!

I have been wanting to do an escape room experience for a while. My friends and I found a Groupon for Phoenix Puzzle Room. I was able to get five friends to join me, since you need a group to play. The room we played was «The Curse of Madame Lumina» with a fortune teller theme. You have an hour to solve a series of puzzles to find keys and clues to the next puzzle. We managed to solve the room with 1 minute and 19 seconds to spare. It was harder than I expected, but had a blast nonetheless. The room is monitored the whole time by a gamekeeper who provides the three allotted clues (as long as we all had our hands raised in agreeance) and was really good about keeping the game moving along. Make sure to have a good game plan when you first start, we wasted some time at the beginning trying to find a starting point. I was very excited to play at the Phoenix Puzzle Room and they did not disappoint! Looking forward to going back to try the other room. I would definitely recommend at least four people, we had six and we all participated to find the answers. They mentioned adding smaller rooms for couples, which would make for a great date night!

Such a great time here! We had a group of 6 that all bought Groupons for $ 27 per couple, when normally I think its that much for one person? Anyways, we got there 15 min before, put our stuff in lockers, & explained the rules. We ended up escaping with 2 minutes to spare. EK! Nerve racking! Would do it again for sure!

This was a whole lot of fun! I never even knew something like this existed until a friend brought it up. We went with eight people and it was a blast. The best I can describe it as is a interactive IQ test. It’s fun to work with your friends and family to figure things out and you feel like you really accomplished something by the end of it. I definitely want to come back and try the other room!
If you’re looking to do something fun and different with a group of friends I would definitely try this place out. Bring a good size group too. Even with 8 I feel like everyone had something to contribute and the time went by fast. Fun stuff!

This was our first experience in an escape room and we failed pretty miserably. But we had a great time and found the room very challenging. If this were a life or death situation, it’d be time to bring in the body bags.
With a trip to the zoo nixed because of an overflowing crowd, we had to find something to do before we left town. We called Phoenix Puzzle Room and they (Matt I believe his name was) were accommodating enough to have a room available for us within 20 minutes after we called. They’re located on the upper floor with one single entrance from North Central. It seems they stay pretty booked, so I would either call or reserve your room online. They were also able to honor the $ 117 Groupon price for 6 that my wife had found. In addition, there’s also a $ 90 for $ 120 Unilocal deal to help you save even more money than we did. I believe normal prices are around $ 30/​person
I won’t give away any spoilers, but we were in the Madame Lumina room and it definitely made my brain hurt. You’re not going to see any pictures because they confiscate your phones. I don’t know how this room compares to other rooms, but it was a definite challenge that I want to take on again.

Bought a Groupon after doing a different company escape challenge. Made our reservation online for the Pearled Pachyderm, with some reservations… had 4 in our party but told unless we had 8, we would be put with other group (s) of people we didn’t know, or we could «buy» the other 4 spots ourselves in order to do the challenge with just our family. Turns out we had a total of 6 of us for the challenge and the couple we were placed with were great! And, honestly I don’t think we could have gotten through the challenges with just 4 people, so it worked out perfectly. The room is definitely mind challenging, we did have to use our 3 clues from the staff, but eventually solved the puzzle, The staff monitor the room via video and they can even hear your thought processes so the clues are very specific. Would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a unique entertainment option-​great staff, fun time, challenging puzzles.

This was super fun — the only downfall that I am super peeved about is that they do not allow you to take your phone in with you so that you can take pictures of your group having fun and working together. They said they would take a group photo afterwords. Well they took the photo but we never got to see it. I even private messaged them through Facebook where they put the guests photos. They got back to me within a respectable amount of time but still NO picture… And it is now two weeks later!

I took my husband here for a pre-​Valentines day gift and it did not disappoint. We were paired with a sweet family of 6 and were able to figure it out with 15 minutes to spare! The staff were wonderful and open to telling us about the upcoming rooms they will have available. We will definitely come back for the other challenges :)

We have done several escape rooms before and this one was ridiculously hard. It was so difficult to the point where it was more frustrating then fun. Part of the room malfunctioned and the employees didn’t assist us till we were stuck for near 10 mins! You get 3 hints and when you need them you have to wait. It’s almost as if they are distracted and are not attentive to your room when you need help. The guy who assisted us out said we did «a really great job» because the over all percentage of people that complete the room successfully was «south of 4%». If a room has that poor of a success rate, they need to reevaluate the room! I recommend escape the room, especially if this is your first time. Much more doable and they are quick to help if you get stuck. Bad experience. The employee also told us the other room was more difficult and the success rate was less than 3%. Needless to say, we won’t be back for the other room.

Went here with a group of 4. As others have stated, they do fill your group with strangers if you don’t bring 8. That was a surprise but it ended up just fine for us.
Really challenging puzzles, we had to use two hints.
I have never done anything like this, it was a lot of fun and different for a double date night. I will be back! The puzzles are well thought out and there are plenty of tricky details that make it interesting.

Cool, but TOO MANY COOKS IN THE KITCHEN! I want to let everyone know because it is not listed on their website, nor was it listed on the Groupon… The max number of people allowed in the room is 8, but what they DON’T tell you is if you do not bring 8 people, they will stick you in the room with enough strangers to fill the room to max capacity. For example, there were 3 of us (our 4^th person didn’t show), so they stuck us with 4 complete strangers. It would have been nice to know that BEFOREHAND! Completely threw us a curve ball. We are family who do not see each other often and were looking forward to some bonding time. Luckily the 4 people were cool, but it got to the point that it was too many cooks in the kitchen and towards the end 2 or 3 of us just became observers while the others tried to figure out the last clues. It would have just made things confusing for everyone to chime in. The puzzle room was really difficult (not necessarily a bad thing), so not sure just the 3 of us could have done it in one hour (we’ll never know), but 7 was definitely too many people, especially with people you don’t know. It would have been really nice to know we’d be stuck with strangers ahead of time! I think it is shady business practice. They want to keep as many time slots open as possible so they make as much money as possible. Understood a business needs to be profitable. But the fact that they don’t mention it until you get there is shady.

Great fun, very challenging. We used all three clues but managed to finish it with only 50 seconds left. Highly recommended!

Had a blast here would highly recommend this to everyone!!! From the minute we walked in the door til the moment we left we had a great experience. Although we were seconds away from beating the room the clues and challenges were both fun and challenging. I highly recommend this place

This was a fun and unique experience, I would highly recommend it. Great location in downtown Phoenix, friendly staff. The puzzles were challenging and intriguing. Get your friends together and try it out! Great for groups.

So for full disclosure I was invited to be a beta tester here as apparently they felt like getting an engineer in the room would show them what they need to make sure people don’t take apart (I played this role well).
Anyways I was supposed to do this with a group of 4 but one bailed last minute. Being 3 engineers we figured sure we got this. We did eventually get it after using all the clues (you get 3) and some stressful times but it was close and significantly harder. Having 1 – 2 more people would have really helped. Would say no less than 4. Was told the max group size is 8 which would be about right before getting too many cooks in the kitchen.
Have to say it was very fun and intense especially the last few minutes as everything came together as time was winding down and we rushed to get out. The feeling of accomplishment at the end was great and really felt like my mind was going 90 miles per hour.
This would make a great team building exercise or even a fun double date. The one thing to consider is that the door to the venue is a bit discreet but consider finding it your first step to get your mind ready for the challenges within.

Tons of fun. Went here with a small group of friends. Similar to other escape the room venues and puzzle rooms but close to everything as it’s located in downtown Phoenix. Group sizes are 4 to 8 players. You have 60 minutes to basically find clues and solve puzzles.
Our group started by handing over our cell phones so as to use our own intellect and intuition with no electronic help. Then we were advised the rules. We then have a timer on a tv and start the game. Without giving anything away you get three hints as long as everyone in the group agrees to ask if we got stuck. There is a game mater who monitors over camera feeds in the rooms.
Overall this was a lot of fun. We cleared the room with only 1:40 left out of the 60 minutes but we did have the smallest group allowed with only 4 people since we were double dating. So much fun and a sense of accomplishment. Can’t wait to go back once they open more rooms.
Would be great for anything related to team building or company interests.
