Doug Fuller – Highland Partners

We owned an old craftsman house in the Laurel district in Oakland and decided to move after 10 years. But there were extensive repairs necessary to make our place sellable: a new roof, new paint, new fence, etc. We turned to Doug Fuller and his 20 years of real estate experience in the East Bay. It was impressive how he knew the market (best time to sell, what will sell), the agents, and the lenders. He wrote down a plan, some options, a budget, a timeline, and expected selling price. This helped us decide which repairs will get the most bang for our buck. He even has resources to reliable contractors and he managed the bids and repairs.
It’s not easy making decisions about big budget with a short timeline, especially about selling something very close to you. Doug’s expertise was invaluable. He was easy to work with, he answered the unexpected and mundane questions about house selling, and he simplified the process.
The advertising and presentation of the house was top notched. Two weekends of open house later with throngs of foot traffic, our house sold well over the expected selling price and at the desired timeline. I couldn’t ask for anything better. If you’re buying a house or selling your house, I recommend you contact Doug.

We found Doug on Unilocal and worked with to buy our first home. Doug was honest, direct, and very responsive whenever we had questions arise. He pointed out the good and bad of the different places and neighborhoods we were looking at so we could make an informed decision. We found a place in our ideal neighborhood through the tools he provided and we love our place.

Doug is THE BEST. He did a superb job helping us find the perfect place. He asked all the right questions, was extremely responsive via text/​email/​phone, and had great advice for us during the entire process. Plus, he’s a cool guy and entertaining as well. I figure if you’re going to be spending what may be a LOT of time with someone in a potentially stressful process, they should at least be someone you want to hang out with?
Doug navigated us through the offer process in a way that made it seamless and lightning-​fast (and meant that the seller accepted our offer!), and was reassuring when there were delays with the lending company.
I can’t recommend him enough. I talked to a few other realtors beforehand, and they seemed overly-​dismissive in comparison (one just kept insisting she wouldn’t talk to me until I set up an in-​person meeting via her assistant, when I wanted to start with a few questions online). Doug was immediately responsive, tech-​friendly, and was always on time and willing to meet outside regular business hours to show us the condo one more time before we put in an offer. Yay Doug!

Doug is great to work with and made the home buying process super easy, and that is not something you hear often in the Bay Area! I am now the proud homeowner of the first house I bid on. The entire process was simple, low pressure, and uncomplicated. Doug is a great communicator and has long term, strong personal ties in the Bay Area real estate market that prove invaluable in the process. As first-​time home-​buyers my family was very nervous. We have been renters for many years and when the house next door came up for sale we knew we had to move fast. Doug did a great job coaching us on bidding and expectations. He suggested a very personal offer package, including a letter to the sellers about why we would like to make their house our home. The property had been in their family since it was built in 1909 and there were a lot of emotions for the heirs selling the house. Doug went in-​person to the sellers’ real estate office to give an in-​person pitch. I don’t think the sellers’ realtor was very keen on us buying the property (she tried to dissuade the them from taking us seriously — turns out she had a hand in a flipper-​type deal!). Doug helped created a competitive yet personal bid and it was accepted in less than an hour. It was a whirlwind and Doug guided us through it with aplomb.

My husband and I got reffered to Doug through Movers Advantage program. First we were excited to work with him, as he seemed like an energetic guy, who knows his stuff. Soon after our house searching experience turned into a train wreck. Any buyer in the bay area, knows that the market is competetive and sometimes you have to act fast. We found a house that we liked, and after viewing it with Doug, we told him we will be putting an offer on it. Couple of days later I reached out to Doug to see if we have all our documents ready to go. There was a due date for all bids, that I had to keep reminding him off. One day before the bid due date it turned out that Doug not only forgot about us and our offer, he also didn’t have time to meet with us to go over the paperwork (we are first time homebuyers). Putting an offer through him was a nightmare. He explained to me only bare minimums, through the phone, and we signed everything electronically and submitted the bid. otherwise we would have lost a chance to bid. When I had questions and would e-​mail him, he would give me short and vague answers to brush me off, like he had bigger fish to fry. I became more frustrated, when I couldn’t schedule viewing appointments with him to see more houses. He is only available in the working hours, so if I wanted to see a house I had to start considering requesting time off from work. I started driving around by myself and calling listing agents to let me in –which, they do not like doing, because your agent should be doing this with you. Ultimatley, it all came to an end, when Doug gave me erroneous information regarding VA looan eligibility for properties that I was interested in buying. He told me that under my type of loan, 4 of the properties I was looking at were not eligible for sale. After doing research I found out that they are. I am glad I didn’t trust his expertise, because if I would I wouldn’t even know what I can and cannot buy. Well, I had to write this review, because I can hardly believe that any professional would have this attitude towards the client he commits to, whether he makes money off the sale or not. Doug displayed lack of integrity, professionalism and performance. Good luck, if you happen to work with him, keep your fingers crossed he will not treat you as he treated us.
