Vito and Nick’s II

If I could give this place negative 5 stars I would. I placed and order over the phone and waited 20 mins just to talk to someone. We had to change our order, add additional pizza and were told it would take an additional 45 mins to the 1.5 hours for pickup!!! We waited. Went to pick it up and gave our name. Nope, no pizza. No order. About 6 people standing around what looked to be doing NOTHING. I was told a couple pizzas could be ready in 45. I was furious. The staff was rude and unapologetic. The guy working the oven yelled across and saiid «too bad what are you going to do!?» I nearly hopped that counter and was going to beat the —- out of that guy but my mother held me back as this was suppose to dinner for my grandmothers bday. Luckily there is a Jewel nearby. PS, this review should have NO reflection on the other locations as they are awesome. t

I remember working at the old Vito and nicks that was closed down in Joliet. I was working there when they introduced their deep dish. They should stick too thin crust it’s what there good at, but anyway i do like the crispyness of it and how it’s not to filling

Well, I can’t exactly say that I had the experience that I thought I would’ve had by watching the food network… Maybe I just came in with high expectations, so I was easily let down. I saw this place on Guy’s «Diners, Drive-​Ins, and Dives» so I just knew it was going to be one of the best things I’d ever eaten. Nope! I bought a living social deal so my boo and I could try this place, we came in on a Wednesday evening and ordered a deep dish spinach pizza. Which came out looking pretty delicious. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as good as it looked.

The pizza here is good, sometimes better than other times, but always good! We always get the meatball pizza, the meatball tastes great and has a better texture than sausage in my opinion. It is never busy when we go here so it’s not a problem getting seated, or getting orders in. The wait for the pizza isn’t that long considering that it is pizza. It isn’t very expensive if you take advantage of their deals or coupons. I have also had their toasted ravioli, it was yummy too. The beer is always good!

I have been to this place twice and have enjoyed both visits. The pizza comes out hot and the crust is crispy. The pizza is not greasy and tastes fresh. The bread they serve while you wait was decent but nothing special. I prefer my bread served warm, but this clearly had cooled a long time ago. Bottom line: I will definitely go back when I’m in the mood for some good pizza!

I called for a pizza to be delivered, 2 hours and still no pizza. I took the family to Culvers. I will never call them again

We came here with a Groupon, and had an «A-​Ok» experience.
The interior seems nice enough and the staff was polite, but the service and food were nothing spectacular. We started out with the breaded cheese balls and cheese fries, again, both weren’t awful but not great.
For pizza, we got the «famous» Italian beef and deep dish cheese. The pizza came out hot, but something about their cheese and flavor of the sauce just seemed odd and underwhelming.
We probably would not go back.

Service was on the slower side. The pizza we ordered was not too spectacular, and not as memorable.

I think the food is good, the pizza average, and service slow and not home to the brightest bulbs. Not much else in Plainfield, which has to explain the usual crowds.

This is my new favorite pizza place! We always get it to go so I can’t speak to the dining area but the pizza is wonderful! Never had an issue with service, pizza is already ready on time and piping hot! I believe they’ve recently changed management and they’re definitely doing something right, LOVE IT!

Well, hmmm… I grew up on the south side and my wife suggested we go to Vito and Nick’s II because she found a Groupon for it. So, sure — I remember the old V&N so let’s see if it’s the same.
First thing — food quality. Pretty good. Not the best, not the worst. All in all, probably a 3 out of 5. DISCLAIMER — we did not order pizza. I *know* how the pizza is, wanted to try something else.
So again, the food was definitely decent. Where we had some problems though, was in the service. And not in the helpfulness of our waitress, but in the overall organization of the staff in there. When we went in on a Wednesday evening, the place was about 50% full and there were two waitresses running the entire place. Even doing bartending! Oh, ok — they must be understaffed, right? Except that I saw someone who appeared to be a manager just kind of hanging out and cooks just kind of hanging out near the back, etc. The waitresses there are responsible for (1) bussing the tables and cleaning them, (2) taking orders/​drinks/​etc., (3) keeping the customers happy. Even one busboy coming out every once in a while would free these waitresses up to do a better job. I hope they get paid well, because unfortunately, many patrons would probably tip them poorly thinking that the service was all their fault.
Bottom line, the food is good but they really need to work on a better system for managing their employees tasks. Turn the eating area into a well oiled machine and you got a winner. Keep it the way it is and it will be just another sad story. Too bad, because this South Side transplant likes some comfort food!

Really good thin crust pizza, and free Bingo on Monday’s at 6:00!!!

I had tried to eat here a couple times, But it is always so busy. And such a long wait for a table. So finally around 6 on a friday, I walked in waited for a table and ordered.
I know it’s a small restaurant. But the noise is insane, long wait time for my food. I don’t care for there drink menu and I just feel really clustered eating there, not enough room. If I did ever eat here again, I wouldn’t eat in. Just saying, The pizza was really good though, I had a Hawaiian. almost tried the famous Italian beef one. But my mom tried a sausage mushroom and pepper, Both were very good pizza’s. Thin and crispy cracker crust. I wish the gluten free pizza they offered was bigger. Because gluten is really a big issue for me. I would like the restaurant better, if they changed the drink menu and had more appetizing salad choices.

So this is my last time dining at Vito and Nick’s. Although it is my favorite pizza place in Plainfield, I can no longer take the owner’s attitude. I order from this location at least once a month and have hosted at least three of my kids’ sports team parties there. Today, I ordered one large sausage pizza and one medium sausage and black olive pizza for pickup. I was rushing from my daughter’s volleyball game to make it home to feed our family of 6. When I arrived, I paid for my pizza and took it to the car. I opened my medium pizza in the car to notice that there were no black olives. I went back in to let them know that my order was incorrect. I did not have time to wait for a new pizza and so the best I was offered was a $ 2 refund for my missing black olives. As a business owner, if I made a mistake on a customer’s order, I would make sure I went out of my way to acknowledge the mistake and compensate the person for inconveniencing them. It is not that hard to get a two topping pizza order correct. It is also not that hard to say, I am sorry for the inconvenience. I think it would have been appropriate to comp the pizza or give half off. The bill was $ 46 to begin with anyway for a 16′ and 14′ thin crust pizza, which is pretty ridiculous to begin with. The kicker was how rude and flippant the owner was about the mistake, as if it was somehow my fault. Oh well Vito and Nick’s, instead of making $ 600 a year off my family, you can keep my $ 46. You have lost a good and loyal customer due to your short cited and rude attitude.

Ok Unilocalers so I like to rate stuff for what it is. it’s not Italian fine dining and it’s not a legendary city original, (& by the way I think people tend to overrate their nostalgic memories). My real rating for this place would be about a 3.5 stars but have to counter balance the other bad reviews.
This is a traditional family pizza place. A bar just big enough for neighborhood couples to cozy up to & about 2 dozen tables. Yes this is a great place for kids. Not too crazy though unless you are a snob. When a restaurant knows how to properly cater to kids, it makes for a great atmosphere for all.
My five year old got a ball of dough to play with — love places that do this. The chicken tenders were good. Fresh chicken pounded thin with a soft breading & they are smart to automatically just make the kids meal & bring it when ready, our waitress assumed this is what we would want but asked us to confirm. Onion rings good not too much breading or too greasy like you sometimes get.
The pizza. I love a thin crust that has some staying power. crispy on the edges & does not get soggy in the middle of the pizza Think fresh & tasty ingredients. Sausage that tastes the way it’s supposed to, meaning you could eat it by itself.. Onion & green pepper fresh & sliced thin to cook nice & soft. Sauce the right amount & tasty but does not overpower the ingredients.
It may not be as good as the original joint in the city, but still stands up as an old school sit and eat pizza place.

After finding out that Baci in downtown Plainfield was temporarily closed, my dad and I, in search of pizza on a Saturday night, took a drive up Route 59. We ended up at Vito and Nick’s II, which provided a decent meal in a crazy atmosphere.
This place is not about ambience. The dining room was large yet completely packed, the full tables and little aisle space creating a warren to weave through. And it’s family friendly to a fault: every table (except ours) had at least a couple of kids at it (and ours bore the signs of those that came before, in the telltale crayon smears on the tablecloth), and the sound rang up to the high ceiling.
We started out with the breaded mushrooms as an appetizer: a rather hard carapace covering a somewhat slimy mushroom; they came with ranch dressing for dipping. I preferred them topped with grated parmesan and red pepper from the shakers at the table.
Another starter was the complimentary plate of bread, with a cruet of light, fruity olive oil, also good with the parm and pepper. Between these and the oddly addictive mushrooms (anything fried is always oddly addictive, even when it’s not great), I had to be sure not to fill up before the pizza arrived.
On the sliding pizza scale ranging from the Chicago gut-​bomb (a la Giordanos, Lou Malnatis, Uno, etc) to the wafer-​thin-​crusted type that’s become in vogue in recent years, I generally prefer something in the middle: some substance, something at the edge to hang onto, a bit of chewiness. If i have to go with one extreme or the other, I’d choose thin. Vito and Nick’s is definitely thin, and we did have the presence of mind to ask them to slice it like a pie (how do you eat those square pieces from the middle with topping slopping off the edges when it’s cut like a tic tac toe board?)
The breath of oregano was definitely on this pizza, and there were some satisfyingly charred brown bits on the bottom, to keep it from being too uniform and blah. Not bad, though not my idea of the perfect pie.
Our ebullient waittress started out speedy, and wisely left us a stack of napkins, but totally vanished after we got our pizza, though we could have used refills on drinks etc. (to be fair, the place was busy). She did drop some of the remains of another table’s salad plate on my coat (gladly easy to get off) when swinging by to give us our check, though.
Not a bad meal, but the setting was too zany for me. We could always get something to go next time — you can even get Vito and Nick’s «fresh frozen pizzas»; a better option for those of us who like a quieter meal.
