Shahla Day Spa and Threading

I was always super apprehensive to try threading but I will never get my eyebrows waxed again! The ladies here are fantastic at what they do, they’re PERFECTIONISTS w your eyebrows! Wax always used to make me break out & burn my skin but I don’t have that problem anymore. I recommend this place to everyone!

Threading is way over priced at $ 15.95, I have paid half this with better outcome
There are other salons in the nearby that only charge $ 8– $ 10 for this service, sadly this is the only salon other than W. Hartford that offer threading, hence the price gouging

I was so disappointed at how my eyebrows came out. Based on the positive Unilocal reviews, I thought I found a gem closer to home. I chose the eyebrow threading and was very dissatisfied at home they came out. The associate only threaded for 50% of the time and plucked with tweezers and used the scissors the other 50%. I believe this is why my brows didn’t come out as clean cut as I am used to having them. I am attaching a picture so you can see I’m not making this up.
With a cranky baby, I was in a hurry to leave so I did not get the opportunity to fully examine my brows and express my concerns. I contacted the spa and left a voicemail and am hoping that they care enough about their customer service to return my call.

Fantastic salon. The best I know in the area and perhaps one of the best, most consistently thorough mani-​pedi spots I’ve had (including the very expensive spa resort spots). Shahla is wonderfully clean and my nails always come out looking perfect. The girls are just very thoughtful and thorough on their work! The threading is great too!

I have no problem paying for great service. But I got my brows threaded here, paid $ 15 & was a bit disappointed.
The threading was a bit painful than usual & wasn’t as refined & precise as threading typically is. I also left later realizing I didn’t have the same shape on each size. Being a makeup artist I get it — they’re not going to be 100% symmetrical. But I just feel for the price I should have be super satisfied. I’ve paid $ 7/​$ 8 and have had a better outcome.

Went to get a Brazilian wax and was pleasantly surprised because I normally only go to my usual waxer. It was very affordable and done well. Definitely coming back to get a pedicure

I have been going to this salon for two years for eyebrow threading. The owner is friendly and has good skills. She makes my eyebrows looking good. I’m very happy with my experiences.

Tried this salon based on the stellar reviews and the fact is was halfway between me and my friends house… but can’t say that our experience matched the reviews that caused us to choose this salon over the others between our homes.
First, I do have to say that all of the ladies working there were beyond kind, polite and friendly in our interactions. I have nothing but good things to say about the salon in that regard.
My friend and I both had our eyebrows done, a pedi and a shellac manicure.
Eyebrows ($ 15) — mine were shaped nicely but one was thinner than the other. Not too much of a big deal, I just plucked when I got home to make them match. However, when I got home, I realized I had what I can only describe as a «thread burn» on my eye where it seemed as tho I got a burn from the threading similar to what a rug burn looks like. it went away after a couple of days but it was most definitely sensitive. I’ve had threading done before and prefer it to any other method but have not experienced that. My friends eyebrows came out nicely and she hasn’t expressed any issues with them.
Pedicure ($ 30) — I’m used to walls full of nail polish to choose from but this salon had a very small selection and none of the colors were really what I was looking for. for $ 30 I expect a pedi that gives me at least 5 minutes of leg/​foot massage, it’s one of the best parts of getting a pedicure. that didn’t happen at all during my pedicure. I was very disappointed in that. the same happened with my friend who was having her first pedicure (that I convinced to have because of how euphoric they are). a lot of the things I’m used to at other salons as being the basics for pedis did not happen here, and the other places price their pedis the same or less. it was a very basic pedicure that felt more like a polish change than anything.
Shellac Manicure ($ 30) — the color selection was even smaller for shellac and there were no colors I was interested in which was irritating. it seemed like they had no summer colors available. this is the service I am most disappointed in. I am going to try and give the woman who did my manicure the benefit of the doubt and assume she’s inexperienced. and if that’s the case then customers shouldn’t be charged full price for her service. I had my manicure done 6 days ago and normally I wouldn’t get shellac and would get regular polish, but my friend and I both wanted to make sure our manicures stayed through the holiday without chipping. 6 days ago. My shellac started lifting on day 4 and has progressively gotten worse; needless to say I’m incredibly frustrated with that. also, the skin at the base of my nails are all peeling back. every single finger — and it’s painful when using hand sanitizer or anything with ingredients that would sting an «open wound». I’ve never had that happen after any manicure I’ve ever had and it makes my hands look terrible. I should have known something wasn’t right when the woman used the end of a nail file to push back my cuticles instead of the correct tool. big turnoff. My friend wasn’t impressed with her manicure and stated for the money she paid she expected better quality. I haven’t spoken to her to see if she has the issues with her skin peeling as I do.
so, after all this… 6 days later my shellac polish is lifted, my skin is peeling back and easily irritated by substances it comes in contact with, making my shellac manicure pointless and my money wasted. my pedicure felt more like an attentive polish change and I had to finish my eyebrows at home and wait for the burn on my eye to fade.
and all of this for a whopping $ 75 before tip. I’m still in shock and upset that I was charged that much money for the quality of services provided.
I’m not sure if we came on a day when experienced employees were off, or if there was employee turnover lately… but if the employees weren’t as kind as they were this salon would be getting zero stars.

Shahla, the owner, personally contacted me, offered her apologies, and welcomed me back to her salon. I accepted and returned for a second visit. This time I got a pedicure and an eyebrow threading. As before, my eyebrows looked good after she threaded fhem and the paint job on my toenails was perfect. I appreciate Shahla very very much for reaching out to me. She really cares about her customers and making sure they are satisfied. She really is a wonderful woman. Thanks again!

I had an excellent pedicure here, and she was able to work miracles with my eyebrows. The place I had been going before to get them waxed had messed up the shape, but now they’re perfect!

This place is fantastic! The salon is clean and the staff is very friendly. I was hesitant to go somewhere different to get my eyebrows threaded, but hands down Shahla’s day spa is a must!

Probably the best pedicure I’ve ever had. The polish looked perfect and shiny! Also had a facial and it was fantastic. Shahla did an amazing job and took her time, my skin looked great afterwards. I can’t speak for the eyebrow threading there but the place was packed (on a Sunday) with ladies getting their brows done. I will definitely be going back, next time I think I’m going to try the spa pedicure.

This is a nice, clean, female-​owned establishment. Everyone is very friendly and they perform their services skillfully. After years of waxing I have been going to Shahla for threading. She is slowly reshaping my brows. I am very happy with the results.

This is the best salon in CT! This is the cleanest salon I have ever seen. I am a regular customer. I get my eyebrows threaded and waxing done every other Friday by Shahla. She is a perfectionist! I have never looked better. I have also has my nails done here and they do a wonderful job.

I went here to get a Shellac manicure for my sister in laws wedding. They did a great job and were very friendly. However, after talking to a few other people and checking out other places that provide Shellac I feel they are a little over priced.

The only place I let touch my eyebrows. I started going here about 5 years ago after a few nail salons waxed my eyebrows away to mere slivers and the older woman who is ALWAYS there made me promise not to wax them anymore. I’m so glad I made that promise to only get them threaded because my eyebrows are perfect now. I go regularly and she keeps my eyebrows looking so clean. She even fills them in a little bit after when they’re not busy and I really appreciate the extra step they always take here. It’s $ 15 but I feel no remorse walking out $ 20 poorer because my eyebrows are on point and she got a tip she absolutely deserved. Threading is a skill, anyone can apply wax and take off half of your eyebrow — and you get what you pay for!

Great job threading! and only $ 7 for my upper lip which is the cheapest I’ve ever found.

Not gonna lie. Threading hurts like a bitch. Way more than any wax has ever. More than my tattoo, even. Not sure if it’s worth the price, however. $ 15? Whaaaat? It didn’t really stay cleaned up any longer than waxing, either. Initially more precise, perhaps? But I’d rather do the wax/​tweeze combo for $ 8 somewhere else.
Besides that part, I felt very strange because there was hardly any verbal communication between myself and the woman who was doing the threading. To some people, that might be what they’re looking for. I didn’t need a full on conversation but a little customer interaction would have been nice.
It’s a small space, but nicely set up, which is really what gives it the third star. They turned on some relaxation-​y music but it was a little too loud. I probably won’t go there again for that price when I can be tortured for cheaper elsewhere.

Came in for a pedicure and found my nail tech to be very friendly and detail oriented. The salon is clean and appears new. As I was getting my pedicure, I noticed at least 3 people came in to get their eyebrows threaded by Ellie, I believe her name was, so her strong client-​base speaks for itself.

I first found this salon while searching for a brazillian wax as I had recently moved to CT and had no idea where to go. I have had dozens of waxes and the experiences I have had in this salon have been some of the best. The room is clean and simple and the wax is quick and painless.
After my first wax in the salon, I took note of their manicure practices and was impressed. It is the only salon I’ve visited in CT so far that does not reuse files/​buffers, something that is extremely important to me in a salon. I will definitely continue to come for other services because everything here seems to be very clean and well done.

To say I am very particular about my eyebrows is an understatement. I moved to CT 2 years ago from NY, I was getting my brows done in NY from the same person for about 10 years. When I moved to CT I tried a few new places for my brows but found my self always being incredibly disappointed, so disappointed that I starting going home to NY just to get my brows done.
I have a wedding to go to this weekend and was desperate to get them done since I haven’t went home in a while. I decided to try Shahla’s but was skeptical, mainly because I find, that for some reason no one in CT knows how to do brows, and because it was threading and not waxing.
I am happy to say that I finally found a place in CT to replace my girl in NY. My brows came out amazing. I will now be a forever costumer to Shahla’s!

I rarely get my nails done, because: 1) Lazy. 2) It is rare for online reviews to agree on whether a place is awesome or terrible. 3) I usually leave nail salons thinking I could have done just as well myself.
Last week my cuticles were too mangled to stand it any longer, so I took a chance on Shalah’s since the reviews (at least for mani/​pedi services) were good. I had an excellent experience. I made a same-​day appointment on Saturday for a classic mani/​pedi, and didn’t have to wait at all when I arrived. As other reviewers have said, the services were extremely thorough, I was there for almost two hours.
My nails are beautifully shaped and expertly polished, I can’t stop admiring them. They look how I always think they should when I get my nails done, but other places just haven’t lived up to the expectation. I thought there were plenty of polish color options, mostly in OPI and Essie. My technician was delightful! I peaked at the pedicure next to me, and her technician seemed to be doing a great job as well.
Two last things: it’s a hike from Hartford, but for a treat or special occasion I would say totally worth it. Also, like a lot of places, they take cards for services but only cash for tips. I calculated a 20% tip before arriving, rounded up, and came prepared with that much cash. To be honest though, I wish I’d had more cash on me to leave a bit more.

I’ve been here for two pedi’s and one mani and this place is super thorough. This is not a in and out kind of visit, prepare to relax and really get pampered. $ 30 is not a lot for a pedicure here because it is the type of pedicure you would get at a expensive day spa.
Both pedicures I’ve had were extremely thorough, they really scrub your feet and make your toes look perfect. Everything is very thorough and feels very professional compared to other places. She did an amazing job scrubbing my feet, spent over 5 minutes on each foot and that is just with a regular pedicure, I can’t imagine how nice their spa pedicure is.
When you want a really good pedi, this is the place to go. I haven’t tried the threading but I always see lots of people coming in and out for it when I am there, I’ll be sure to try it soon!
