J.E. Moore Air Conditioning Heat and Cool

We have been working with JE Moore for years now and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Just had another great service experience with John and Reese and we have regular maintenance done by Alberto, a very skilled and experienced tech for older units. Jay is very accommodating on scheduling and the office staff super. They are very conscientious, trustworthy and experienced and always at a value. As a local business who has been around for years, you can be fully confident in their service and follow-​through. Rare attributes these days, i’m afraid…

If I could give zero stars I would. Despite the raving reviews, here’s my story.
AC runs fine all summer. No issues. Then, we have to sell our home. My husbands job. Had a home inspector come in for the purchaser. Said the evaporator coil had water on it. Called Moore Heating and AC. Guy came in. Said water on evaporator coil is normal. AC looks fine. No issues. I said great. Give me a report then stating that please so I can provide it to the purchaser. He Says — let me check one more thing. Guy goes up (our AC unit is in our loft) and doesn’t come down for about 40 minutes. Then he comes down and tells me he did some taping. He found a few leaks of air here and there. So he put tape on it. Then tries to charge me $ 200! I asked jwhy $ 200 for tape and especially after he just told me there were no issues. He said it’s expensive tape and it took him almost an hour. I told him there’s no way I’m going to pay $ 200 for something he didn’t even clear with me first! What’s with these contractors?! Told me no issues. Then comes back down and charges me $ 200 for taping? I called my husband who works with contractors all the time. Said HVAC hourly rates are around $ 60. The guy obviously knew he was trying to rip us off. He agreed to $ 125 which was still too much considering he previously told me there were no issues. It’s like he just wanted to charge for something. Terrible terrible service. Would not recommend them at all based on my experience.

Jay and his team removed two old heating units and two old a/​c units and installed new and much more efficient ones, with new controls, ducts, and vents. They did a great job, with a very competitive bid, and they showed up when scheduled, treated our home with respect, did first class work, and were ready and willing to answer questions, make adjustments, and make sure we were satisfied. Very nice, skilled, experienced, trustworthy folks who did a very professional job and who stand by their work.

I was in a real jam yesterday when I heard my AC unit screaming and clearly not working. With an old house that heats up QUICK, and two dogs to keep cool, I reached out to a friend who got me in touch with J. E Moore. To my surprise I was told a tech was coming today, and sure enough, Alberto showed up, and it was clear he really cared about helping me out. What a nice guy. He did a fantastic job, did it quickly, did it honestly, and told me what I needed to consider in the future as far as my AC system. I will say that after looking through some manuals and videos that I may have been able to make the repair myself for cheaper, but my strengths are not in HVAC and now I learned something for the future. Eventually I’m gonna have to spend thousands on upgrading my system and I’m not looking forward to it. But when that day comes, I know exactly who I’m calling. Thank you JE Moore and Alberto. I’ll surely recommend to others.

After hearing a loud pop and finding our air conditioner condenser smoking on one of the hottest days of the summer, we were desperate to get someone out to diagnose and repair the issue. JE Moore was able to come out on the same day we called, and quickly diagnosed and repaired the problem for a very reasonable rate. The technician was very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend their services.

I came to visit my mom for the 4^th of July holiday. it’s super hot here in Danville and her a/​c was not working in the family room– where I like to watch TV. She had been scammed by a company called Mr. Sparky and she was hesitant to call anyone else for help as she is 76. I started researching on Unilocal for the best company to help but it seems eveyone reputable was booked 2 weeks out. I kept trying and finally found J. E Moore Air Conditioning. I spoke with Jay, told him that we suspected that one of the ducts had come loose as air was not reaching one room. He said he would send his guys within the hour. At first we were hesitant because the initial fee was $ 250 just to go under the house– but let me tell you, these guys were worth it. As promised John and Matt arrived within the hour, they put booties on before coming in the house, and blankets before they went under the house. Within 20 minutes John came up and showed us a picture of where the duct had come loose and was clearly broken. He got my mom’s approval and then went to work. While he was was under the house fixing the duct, Matt was changing the air filter which literally had dust and webs hanging from it. Not only did he change the filter but he vacuumed out the dust and dirt. After John fixed the duct he came back up and showed us a picture of the repair. Un-​freaking believable! We love these guys and I feel so lucky to have found them. My mom was so pleased she gave them a $ 20 tip to go get lunch at In & Out Burger since they came on their lunch hour. I posted a picture of them and am really happy with everything. My mom has their card taped to the fridge and now J. E Moore Air Conditioning is her go-​to guy for anything related to a/​c or heating issues. Thanks to Jay, John and Matt and a job well done and restoring my faith in contractors! My mom and I are both grateful.

I called three AC companies and the one that called me back was JE Moore; Alberto was able to come right on time to fix my malfunctioning 25 yr old compressor. After diagnosing the problem, the starter capacitor needed replacement and I accepted the $ 245 quote. Alberto completed the work in less than 30 mins and said it should run fine through the summer and to consider a new unit this fall. I am pleased that I didn’t have to purchase a new system right away and have time to save $$ for an eventual new one!

Jay Moore came twice to help us check out our problem and wouldn’t even charge us1 Then he fixed our problem and charged us $ 100.00 less than his quote. He really wanted to help and we will never use any one else !

My wife informed me last night that our AC is blowing hot air. So checked several companies near San Ramon, CA and found JE Moore to have the most reviewed company. Called them early this morning and i got a schedule that they will be coming around 2PM. Alberto arrived before 2PM and shown where my AC outside unit is, he readily diagnosed that it was the fan starter which is the dual run starting capacitor, after further checking he confirmed that it was indeed the capacitor. Quoted me $ 245 less Unilocal discount of $ 25. I did check how much the spare parts will be it says i can get it for $ 20, so i paid $ 200 for the labor.
I asked Alberto for more details on the parts he said that it was the quote from the office. So i asked are there any discounts he said no.
SO i paid $ 200 to replace a capacitor and after checking Youtube i could have replaced it myself.
I like that they came as scheduled and the work was done but i am not sure about the quote if i indeed got a good deal so i am giving them 3 stars.

I had 4 different AC Contractors come by to give an estimate after my AC failed.
It was a bit of work scheduling all the techs, but having the ability to compare was very beneficial. After «interviewing» the four different companies, JE Moore stood out as the most professional at the best price.

The installation was done professionally and efficiently. The work met all my expectations and was delivered exactly as promised with no surprises or changes.

My AC compressor (as part of a split a/​c system) has been overheating and also knocking out the house main breaker (initially monthly, now daily). Having replaced the inside furnace and coil 3 years ago, we have been delaying the expense of the outside unit until we absolutely needed to replace it. With a 8 month pregnant wife, urgency to replace the outside unit is now very high on my priority list. I contacted Jim from JE Moore and he was able to turn around a quote with hours based on my specifications and was very professional and timely with his responses. Although I have decided to go with another to match brands with the furnace I already have, Jim’s prices were competitive and his responsiveness exemplary.

Friendly and quick service– highly recommended. Came on short notice– fixed quickly. They have been out twice and they have done a good job both times.

We had an air conditioning unit relocated when we built our pool. J.E. Moore offered us a competitive price and the best solution after speaking with other companies. His team worked fast and cleaned up after. Great experience!

Called asking about a potential service. The woman on the phone said they didn’t offer the requested, which is fine. My review is simply on the receptionist’s tone — unwelcoming. I think, if they did offer the service I would have looked else where anyways. In this economy, I’d like to think my business is valued.

What a terrific company! Honest and reliable.
My air conditioner wasn’t working and I had a different company come out and tell me that I needed a new unit. By the time I was ready to purchase one, I had lost the original company’s contact information. I went on Unilocal and fount J.E. Moore. I made an appointment with them and let them know that I needed a new air conditioning unit. A service person came out and inspected the machine. Long story short, I didn’t end up needed a new unit after all. They were able to repair my old unit, saving me THOUSANDS of dollars! The folks working at the house were very professional and pleasant to have around. I highly recommend this company, they are experts, pleasant to deal with and honest.

A/​C went out late last night. I called several repair services this morning, most of them unable to come in under a week. JE Moore scheduled me for five days from now and I was happy to get that. Then they called mid morning asking if someone could come out to just see if it was something quick to fix. They came out, but couldn’t fix it. But then I got a call two hours later saying the tech was in the area and he could fix it today! Woo hoo — 100 degrees outside and we need the a/​c.
I truly appreciate their flexibility and will certainly be calling them again if I need to.

On-​Time for their appointment again! Called late Friday night and left a message for regarding needing repair on our AC unit. They called back around 9 AM Saturday and were set to come between 11 AM and 1 PM. Arrived around 11:20 and quickly diagnosed a blown capacitor for our compressor fan (it is a two part capacitor — one for the compressor and one for the compressor fan). This is apparently a common problem that we had diagnosed over the phone with PG&E since we have one of those Smart AC devices. 15 minutes later we were good to go. A reasonable price for a fix and no Saturday surcharge! The technician recommended their twice per year diagnostic check service but I was not really interested. No pressure at all.

I don’t know how this company getting so many positive reviews unless it is all fake. Be aware. I can’t comment on a service yet, but I can comment on making appointments. We schedule diagnostic appointment well in advance more then a week in order to accommodate both tenant and owner schedules. At a time of appointment we got assured it is not a problem and technical will be on time. So needed to run from an office and making accommodations waiting for technical. Got phone call from Jim 7 minutes before an appointment that technical will be 1 hour 30 min late in it is sound like my fault because we requested specific time. So at least half a day in an office is gone and AC guy won’t pay for it. Looking to hear how I would overcharge for a actual repair. No really reliable service in AC repair business until you do it yourself in my view. The part the piss me off the most, Jim made it sounds that technical late is my fault. To be continued…
Story continued: After 2 hours delay technical came and found that unit low on freon. I’ have been charged $ 500 for freon refill. I guess that is the price not doing it myself. Found online the price should be in $ 100 — $ 150 range:
One more update: Just call other services in a area. Got quotes for $ 200 — $ 300 total including labor. Will never use this service again.
Saga continued: After posting this review on Unilocal I got phone call from Jim (I guess owner of this company) and he apologize for OVERCHARGING me. How often you can hear it from air conditioner guy !!! :-) I think posting on Unilocal definitively helped.
GO Unilocal! I saved the message so I can hear over and over again. :-) Still didn’t get apology for technician late for 2 hours and accordant to Jim it is my fault. So now he is charged me $ 350 (still $ 100 more then other guys charge in an area and $ 200 more then it should be) but I got apology from AC repair guy !!! Jim was not be able to indicate why I was overcharged (he could not contact technician at a time, I know lame excuse).
So I’m almost over this accident. Let Jim enjoy my extra $ 100 and I’m enjoying listening to recorded apology. :-) At this point considering claim with BBB. Not sure about it.

We had J.E. Moore out to re-​duct our entire HVAC unit, the intake vent was smack dab in the middle of our living space and was no noisey when it came on we couldn’t hear the TV. Jay is the one that came out, their price quote was fair and we could tell by the conversation he only does quality work.
It took a couple of days to complete the job, it was done so much better then we would have ever expected, they were clean, and wrapped all the piping the way it should have been all along. We will most diffinetly recommend these guys to friends, and will absolutely use them again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

This company employs usurious pricing practices. Under scrutiny J.E. was unable to justify his price. I got an estimate of $ 550 dollars to replace 12 feet of air duct. I gave him a call after sensing immediately that is was unexpectedly high for the work involved.
I first asked how many hours of labor would be required. He initially made it sound like it would take all morning but later acknowledged that it would probably take 2 hours.
I then asked how much was an hour of labor. His initial answer was: «It depends.». Second red flag ! He finally acknowledged a cost of $ 100 dollars per hour.
Sensing he was coming short of $ 300 in his justification, he turned and said «Well, I got to pay for materials too». When pressured he gave an estimate of $ 150 for materials. Even then he was unable to justify the remaining gap. The only explanation he could come up with was: «I got to make money». As if he wasn’t already running a profit on labor and parts.
I did the work on my own. The materials cost me approximately $ 60 dollars without wholesale or contractor discounts. I am glad I did this on my own.
Kudos to the technician though. He was knowledgeable, helpful and nice.
