My 11 month old puppy had a freak accident at a park near Dr. Teare’s office. My puppy jumped off a log and impaled herself on a branch. She had a large puncture wound to her chest. I had to wrap a sweatshirt around her to keep pressure on the wound and carry her out of the park to the parking lot. Another dog walker was kind enough to drive me to the nearest vets, because time was running out. Dr. Teare immediately took my puppy into surgery, even though he had other patients and he didn’t know me or my dog. I honestly was not sure my dog was going to make it. Dr. Teare flushed out the wound and stitched up my pup and saved her life. I sat quietly in the waiting room and he kept me up to date. My puppy and I both have anxiety issues when separated. I was told I would have to wait a few more hours to see her and I was okay with that, I understood. Dr. Teare could have easily told me to wait longer without seeing my dog and I would have accepted that. He looked at me waiting, then went back and looked at my puppy who was recovering in a kennel, this was just shortly after the surgery. I personally think he realized neither the puppy nor I were going to relax until we were together. He walked me back to the kennel. The pup was standing up on wobbly legs in a kennel very very shortly after her surgery and clearly scared. He never said a word other than he asked me if I could handle taking care of her while she was so fresh out of surgery. Of course I said «Yes». The other people on Unilocal are correct. If you want hugs and flowers and a big display of affection for you, this is not your guy. If you want a vet that cuts right to the chase and does what is right for your animal. this is your guy. I’m not being dramatic when I say, this man saved my dog’s life. The puncture to her chest was very large and it had sliced down along her ribcage. I also expected to pay an arm and a leg for all this, and I was wrong. I would have paid him anything I was so happy to have my dog alive. I found his price incredibly fair. This is a great vet with a no fuss no muss attitude, and I like that. This accident just happened yesterday. My little pup is all bandaged up and doing great, because of this man.

Dr. Teare is sincere, straightforward, honest, and knowledgeable.

I have been taking my three (now four) Italian Greyhounds here for years now and have never been disappointed in the care they have received and have always felt his prices are reasonable. Dr Teare is a very cerebral guy and is a straight-​shooter also. i agree with everyone else who is saying he doesn’t sugar-​coat, but that’s what I appreciate about him. I know he’s going to give it to me straight and not charge me an arm and a leg in the process. He is super smart, on time and reasonably priced. I won’t go anywhere else and my dogs are my babies!

I really like the care I get here. Honest, reasonable, straight forward but compassionate.
My sweet dog is aging and having some difficulties this year. I took her to a specialist in Walnut Creek who after an ultrasound and $ 1200.00 had no answers and continued to recommend more expensive treatments one of which was to have her teeth cleaned. After a friend had recommended Dr. Teare I decided to pay him a visit to talk about getting it done even though it was against my better judgement. Rather than taking my money he did a thorough work up and history at a fraction of the cost. My dog is about 14 and would not benefit from a teeth cleaning that would require anesthesia when her teeth don’t show any signs of decay or abscess. I couldn’t agree more. Having some background in healthcare I find Dr Teare to have my dogs best interest at heart rather than just his pocket book and my sympathy. Im very grateful and will continue to see Dr. Teare for my dog and any pets in my future.

I want to update my earlier post because I think they were experiencing a phone glitch and since then I have had no problem getting through. Dr. Teare is a pro. Don’t be fooled by his serious demeanor. He is warm, caring and considerate. And the best part? He doesn’t gauge you when it comes to price!

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Teare for 15 years now. I originally found him when faced with the decision of thousands of dollars in dental treatment proposed by another vet which I could not afford or letting him go. Dr Teare charged me $ 400 for the same work allowing me several more years with with my boy. From that moment he was the vet for my family. Since that time he has helped us with cats that had ailments ranging from general check ups, dental issues, diabetes, seizures, to cancer. He has always given information to us in a caring but straightforward, no frills way which I appreciate. Most recently our cat has struggled with IBS (we seem to get all the special needs cats!) and he has gone out of his way to help us. Going as far as us checking in weekly on the phone to monitor progress with no charge where so many vets would have you come in for an office visit to keep the money rolling in. If you are looking for a vet who is a straight shooter, truly charges a fair price, and knows his stuff Dr. Teare is the vet for you. Our family cannot thank him enough for all the years of keeping our pets healthy.

Very fair pricing, no-​nonsense, old-​fashioned country vet.
The 2 other vets I used in Pleasanton were of the ‘new-​school’ of revenue enhancement and maximization. This involves codling the owner while pushing expensive procedures, justified because people here are the presumed rich. Seems Its the way its done now, but not at Dr. Teare’s, perhaps the last country vets in town. But be aware he will tell you plainly what you may be doing wrong… which I think is ultimately for the benefit of the animal.

Dr. Teare is straight forward and no-​nonsense about caring for our dogs health. We appreciate his open communication around the numerous considerations that sometimes shape treatment decisions.

Exhibit A: After spending $ 2000 on an emergency visit I needed to find a new vet that I trusted, a place that wasn’t going to hurt my pocket book, nor my dog. We got a recommendation from our realtor and took our dog to Dr. Teare for her post pneumonia checkup. Dr. Teare was straightforward, knowledgeable, and I didn’t feel like I was being «up sold» on additional yet unnecessary treatments.
Exhibit B: My little Min Pin’s breath was RANK. Dr. Teare’s office doesn’t do teeth cleaning on Fridays so I decided to call around to see if I can get in where I fit in. It’s a pretty complex billing process at other vet offices. First there is the base charge, then there is the anesthesia charge, then there is the blood work to make sure they will handle the anesthesia, then there is the extraction charge, and a few other things too boring to list. Dr. Teare’s office was the most straight forward, reasonably priced place in the Tri-​Valley area. (I called over 5 places)
It’s not a fancy place. They are not going to win any awards for coddling but that is A-​Ok with me.

Competent, Compassionate and Reasonable.
I just recently switched over from my vet of fourteen years to Dr. Teare.
My dog was faced with a medical situation that I knew would be incredibly expensive, out of reach at my original vet (i.e. my PRIOR vet charged 200.00 just for the last well visit).
I had heard great things about Dr. Teare’s skills and reasonable approach and took the chance. I am soooo glad I did! For many reasons, one of which– I have never felt more confident about the direction taken for my dogs care.
Truly! You don’t easily find competent diagnosticians like Dr. Teare… Because of my anatomy and physiology training I have an idea of what is out there! He is gifted. Without taking a long time and a million tests like my other vet would have, my dog had ONE blood test and a clear plan to get him back to health. What a relief! On top of that Dr. Teare has been available for daily phone updates (his suggestion) regarding my dogs symptoms to help coach me through my dogs recovery. And yes, my dog is better now!
Thank you Dr. Teare and your very capable staff! You do excellent work!

We have been taking our pets to Dr. Teare for over eleven years now. With Dr. Teare, we have been through one dog that died of cancer and one dog that died of pancreatitis. We currently have three cats and two dogs and he provides all of their veterinary care.
Dr. Teare’s office is no-​frills and no-​nonsense. His staff is straightforward and down to earth. Their prices are very reasonable; you will not be nickel and dimed. I have read some less than favorable reviews about the office personalities, but I can tell you, after going there for so long, they all care about animals and are just a forthright bunch.
When my first dog was diagnosed with cancer, we put her down within a week, but my husband was out of the country and I waited for him to return. I was so worried about leaving her at home alone every day, that I dropped her off every morning at Dr. Teare’s on my way to work and picked her up at the end of the day. They took care of her, supported me and did not charge me a dime for this. We received a sympathy card from Dr. Teare and his staff after we put each dog down.
When I bring my animals in, I sometimes have to bring them in batches (with two kids in tow), the staff are always helpful and supportive with bringing them back and forth to the car and dealing with the chaos.
Compare that with going to VetCare in the middle of the night, meeting with a cold, clinical vet you don’t know, then putting your animal down. Oh, and then being billed $ 900. (I’ve done that, too.)
There is no other veterinary office that I would trust with my pets as much as Dr. Teare.

I have been going to Dr. Teare’s office with my last dog and now I take my current dog and cat. He has always been professional and honest with me. If you are looking for a fancy place or someone to make a big fuss over your animal then don’t go there. I don’t need or expect a fuss over my pet and just want a honest answer.

We’ve been taking our cats, Mochi & Rudy, to Dr Teare since they were kittens, about 6 years or so… and we’ve always appreciate his straightforward manner, and right on diagnosis as well as the way he gives us options for treatment.
Highly recommend, we even brought my son’s rat in, and he was very compassionate with both the rat my son.

I have been taking our dogs and cats to Dr. Teare’s office for over 10 years. We have always received excellent veterinary care for all of our animals at a very reasonable price. That is what we look for in a veterinarian and don’t really care if it doesn’t look like a Burke-​Williams Spa. The office is always clean and organized which to us is all we care about in the appearance of the facility. The staff is always friendly to our pets and that’s all that matters to us. If you are looking for an office that genuinely cares about your pets, will speak to you honestly about what is best for them and not overcharge for services, this is a great choice.

My husband and I couldn’t be more grateful to Dr. Teare. We left another vet in the area because his prices were outragous and our dog was terrified of him. Dr. Teare was recommended to us about 9 years ago and we made a very successful switch. I could always trust Dr. Teare’s diagnosis’ and opinions and felt that he not only would do what was in the best interest of our dog but was also very balanced and cared about us as people too. I have never felt over-​charged in his office and I have been able to have my dog seen immediately.
The rubber really met the road over the past couple of days. On Wednesday we brought our dog in for some radical health changes and were informed that she had a massive tumor (s). On Thursday we had to go through the agonizing experience of putting her down. I am so grateful that Dr. Teare was our sweet Sadie’s vet at that moment. He was so compassionate and caring and made the whole experience much more bearable.
I understand that some have said his staff is rude and uncaring, but after 9 years in the office I have to disagree. We have found his staff to be very accomidating and caring. If we ever decide to get another pet, there is no question who will be our vet!

Dr. Teare & his staff are absolutely wonderful people! They all went over & above. My dog & 2 cats have been patients for 6 years now & I do not have a single complaint! I have an English bull dog, a Sphynx, & a Siamese mix. Some people say you need a vet that only specializes in those breeds= dr. Teare very much knows his stuff with all of them. I feel they are in wonderful hands! Thank you dr. Teare, Alicia, Kelly, & anyone behind the scenes I do not know of, you guys have been so wonderful!

Ok… first off, I am not put off by Dr. Teare’s plain speaking, tough love attitude. I am fine with his honesty about my pets. His prices are probably 20−30% less than any where else. They have been in that building a long time. All of that is ok. with me. I don’t need a lot of pretty talk and fussing.
On the other hand, I do appreciate being treated like my business matters, so what I find more and more irritating is the lousy attitude of his assistant/​front desk person. She is consistently rude. When I call, I am left to feel like I am an imposition. I have sent several friends to Dr. Teare and pretty much most of them have given up with him because they didn’t want to deal with her. Dr. Teare prefers to defend her rather than do something about it.
So, when asked, I say you will get excellent vet care but prepare yourself for rude service. Pricing is fair but don’t expect a courtesy or follow up call.
Hope she doesn’t lock me out next time I show up.

Personally, I hate being patronized, coddled & given misleading & or false hope when either my or especially my pets health care issues are concerned. When my MD, about three years ago basically said, «Hey fatso, you don’t shed 20lbs, change your diet & get your ass off the couch you’ll be just another statistic.» So minus 25lbs later, no more blood pressure med’s & in great shape I’m thankful for the straight advise.
Same goes for Dr. Teare when he flat out instructed me that our kitten might not survive if we didn’t take a more involved role in her feeding, medication & care. We responded in turn for both our dogs when we were told that 2 – 3 walks a week was just not going to cut it & maybe we should consider fish if that’s all that we were going to provide. (8+ walks a week is also great exercise btw!) He has always diagnosed our pets ailments in short manner, charged accordingly & is (IMHO) a nice guy.
Chill out, man up & take your medicine if that’s what you have coming to you. Dr. Teare speaks the plain & sometimes, not so welcome truth & if you can’t handle that, go buy yourself some fish.

I brought my 2 shih tzus in to see this vet several years ago. My dogs are very friendly, but the receptionist was incredibly rude, unhelpful and obviously had better things to do than make new patients feel welcome. She was incredibly cold, and I did share this feeling with Dr. Teare — who did not really seem all that interested. There are much better clinics out there.
