John Mader

Wow, did we luck out when we found John. My 9-​year-​old son wanted to take drum lessons, so I researched a few drum teachers that taught locally. After talking with John on the phone, I knew he was going to be a great teacher. He is encouraging, professional, interested in the individual, and keeps it interesting. My son always looks forward to his drum lessons with John. John goes above and beyond what is expected. When he has to travel for business, he makes up an mp3 file and emails it to us so that Kyle has new material to practice with during the week. I highly recommend John!

We selected John Mader as a drum instructor for our son years ago when he was just starting to learn to play. We had no idea what to expect since this was our first foray into music lessons of any kind with any of our kids. We got lucky. John has an obvious love for what he does and a very discliplined approached to learning, which, now that some time has passed, we realize has had big impact on our son beyond just drumming. Our son learned from John that in order to do anything well, you need to work at it, and practice, and practice some more. John taught in a way that combined technique with current music selections. For a teenage boy, this worked very well. As a result, our son could see his own growth and felt satisfied that he was making good progress within a context of drumming to songs he could identify. This was a really good experience for our son. I would highly recommend John as an instructor.

John Mader is my thirteen year old son’s drum teacher. I interviewed several of the local drum teachers before deciding to go with John. Right from my first conversation with him, I noted a youthful enthusiam for his craft. Since then, he has returned all my calls, texts and emails promptly and courteously.
John imparts an amazing energy and love of drumming to my son, and has served as a role model to believe in oneself and persevere. He is an accomplished drummer in his own right and this, too, serves as a great inspiration for his students. Being a piano teacher, I am familiar with teaching methods and I am very satisfied with John’s approach and the pace he sets. He is flexible but consistent and gives praise when it is most effective.
John goes above and beyond to inspire his students by offering quarterly jazz/​rock performance opportunities in the studio he has pulled together with professional equipment. This program keeps his drummers motivated year-​round. I do not hesitate to recommend John Mader to anyone who is looking for a drumming teacher for a first time experience, or if your child just needs a new perspective.
