We specialize in a few areas. Our # 1 area is Customer Service. We know you have quite a few choices out there and we pride ourselves on being the absolute best in our industry. We have a comfortable waiting room with a couch table and chairs. (You do not have to stand around at a gas station in fear of being hit by a car or wonder where your children went wile you wait) Its also Air Conditioned!

We also know you are concerned about your car. We will take great care of you and your vehicle, and send you out with a smile. You will know you came to the right place.

We specialize in Smog Check only, we are quick, fairly priced, and honest. We can smog any vehicle you bring in (including exotics) to us that needs a smog.

History

Established in 2004.

We started this business in 2004. Smog King was the first Smog Test Only Station in the Tri Valley Area. However we began in this industry way before that. We have over 27 years of vehicle testing experience behind us. I worked with a major smog test machine manufacturer since 1982. I started out setting up smog test locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for the manufacturer. And now here we are, with all this experience to serve our Tri Valley customers.

Brian has been doing business in the Tri Valley area for over 20 years now as an independent businessman. Starting in the automotive aftermarket as a top performer selling automotive diagnostic equipment. He has been in thousands of auto repair shops across the country doing business with the owners of these shops, helping them to improve their day-​to-​day operations. Currently he is owner of Smog King in Pleasanton & San Ramon. In addition to this he also still trains automotive technicians on diagnostic procedures using the latest in automotive equipment.

Taking my ten-​year-​old car in to have it smog tested is stressful. There is always a concern that it won’t pass for some reason, and I’ll have to take more time (and spend more money) to get it ready to pass. In the past, my stress has been augmented by personnel at test centers who are either unprofessional or unfriendly. My experience with Smog King in Pleasanton was entirely positive. Scott was responsive and friendly on the phone when I set up the appointment, and equally so when I arrived for the smog check. Service was fast and complete, and having a $ 20 off coupon available from their site didn’t hurt either. I will definitely be back the next time a vehicle needs to go through smog certification.

I didn’t have an appointment and drove in at 3:00 PM. I was greeted by Mike with a big smile. I asked if they could smog my car while I wait. Mike did so promptly since I was the only one there at the time. I asked Mike if he was able to check my tire pressure too. He cheerfully did so. This was the most pleasant smog check I have ever encountered. As Mike handed me my receipt he mentioned that if I am a AAA member, I could take the paperwork there and pay my fees and get the tags immediately. I am a member and I did so and the entire process took me less than an hour.

Made an appointment online via their website and it was confirmed by e-​mail. I had to drive up to the address slowly because their location in the building wasn’t the most obvious — but there were helpful signs directing me.
Staff was very friendly and helpful since this was the first time I had taken care of a smog check on my own. The process was efficient and the facility was clean.
Come for the good customer service, stay for the efficient work — and use the coupon from their website!

I called in Saturday and scheduled a smog check. I asked if I needed an appointment and the guy on the phone said they take both drop-​ins and appointments so I just decided to schedule one at 1 pm.
When I arrived on the dot, the technician (Mike Hazelwood) took my paperwork, keyed it in in his computer, gave me a $ 20.00 discount for mentioning Unilocal, offered me their wifi password while waiting and very courteous and professional. It’s my first time in this establishment and I think it won’t be the last!
I was out of there by 15 minutes and Mike answered all my questions re: the results of the smog check.
Just an awesome and pleasant experience, over-​all!

It’s been about a month, but I’ve been meaning to write a review for Mike, at Smog King in Pleasaton, CA. He took my car right in and literally 15 minutes later I was back on the road. Mike has excellent customer service skills and is very helpful – not to mention a discount was provided for finding them on Unilocal. To top it all off, he also sent me a thank you card with a coupon for a future visit.
If you live in the Pleasanton/​Dublin/​San Ramon areas, stop by Smog King and ask for Mike.

Quick, friendly service. Called on short notice twenty minutes before arriving and was out in ten. They have an awesome coffee maker and a comfy futon to rest while waiting. Just got a lovely thank you note with a coupon for next time or to give to a friend. Really appreciate the customer service since I’m in the hospitality business. Its a locally owned business too, not a stupid corporate chain. I will be back in two years for the next smog!

In a day when you literally feel pressured or rushed to get out of someone’s place of business, be rest assured that this business in a complete 180 degrees! I have used this facility for both of my cars biennial smog certs. While there may be less expensive places to have this done, I have never had an issue when picking MY appointment time and getting in an out of there in less than 20 minutes or less. The staff is exceptionally friendly, k-​cup coffee and daily newspaper as well as a pc to use should you actually not have a smart phone on your hip. Smog King rocks…

Such quick and great service at Smog King. I called in the morning on short notice and was able to get my car smog checked 20 minutes later. Took 15 minutes and I was on my way, quick and easy, no huge chunk out of my day spent waiting.
I’ve been here in the past and they will do all they can to help you get your vehicle passed. Prices are inexpensive as well, so I don’t really see any reason why anyone in Pleasanton would go anywhere else. Thanks guys.

After 6 years of going to them for my smog check I have changed.
The final straw was when I watch the technician crawl into my engineer compartment for some odd reason and break a hose and then claim he did not do it and due to a broken hose the car would not pass the smog test.
I would not recommend taking any vehicles to them until they hire some competent technical staff.

Walked right in on a Tuesday afternoon and was out with all my paperwork within 30 minutes. I would make an appointment next time as a few people came in after me and had to come back a little bit later or wait a little bit longer.
I was helped by Tim (pretty sure that was his name). Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, He made sure that my aftermarket parts would pass before conducting the test so I wouldn’t get charged if they were not CARB legal (which I knew they were but every bit helps).
Mention Unilocal and get $ 30 off. While it does only brings it down to $ 64, it is nice to see them recognize us Unilocalers.
A major plus to me was how safe with my car he was. The shell station killed my car (manual) every time I took it in there. Last time they killed it twice… Last time I will ever take it to them that is.
Tim obviously knew how to approach a new car with a manual transmission and drove it flawlessly (something I can really appreciate as a car lover and part-​time valet!)
Will definitely be going here again for all my family’s smog needs. Supporting local business=way better than going to some gas station chain for worse service.

Smog King was friendly, fast, and gave me a coupon for mentioning Unilocal (total came to $ 78 for my Lexus). They even have free Wi-​Fi and a Austin Powers pinball machine!

Smog King in Pleasanton has excellent service! We were so happy with our last smog test-​only that we returned. We were greeted promptly and provided with valuable and helpful information. While signing in, I quickly checked Unilocal for special offers and they gladly honored the $ 20.00 off if you mention Unilocal discount! We are proud to say we are repeat customers (so is the other customer who came after us)!
Plus, they have free wi-​fi, the morning paper, a plethora of magazines and an Austin Powers pinball machine. Who doesn’t love a little bit of Fat Bastard every once in a while?
Pros — clean and spacious waiting room, friendly workers, and quick service.
Cons — really? What’s there to complain about?
