Danford’s Hotel & Marina

The fire alarm went off (false alarm/​NEGATIVE emergency) in the Jetty building prior to 7:30 AM. Water was visibly pouring out of the sprinkler, exit sign and fire alarm outside my room. The desk continuously called me; I didn’t pick up because I wanted to go back to sleep, for goodness sake. Next thing I know, I have to get dressed because some employee is outside my door telling me my car needs to be moved because it is interfering with the farmers market. Yesterday it was an acceptable spot; I was given a list of parking spots to avoid. Amazing. And to think, the hotel would not let me get in at the same rate of all my friends who are attending a wedding. Boo on multiple fronts. I paid a fortune to stay there and my sleep was truncated!

My wife and I stayed there for our 10 year anniversary. I had purchased the Elegance package which included a nice room, bottle of Champagne, dinner and breakfast. The room was very nice and overlooked the town. We had a little issue with the thermostat in the room. The engineer responded and explained to us they just went to wi-​fi thermostats and he was not that familiar with the operation of it. It was not a big deal at all. He brought a space heater to the room which we did not wind up using. We had dinner reservations for 7 pm and changed them to 8 and then again to 830. Not an issue at all for the front desk. The dinner was fantastic at the Wave restaurant. The food was great and we were not rushed. Our server, Benny, let us enjoy our night out and we totally enjoyed ourselves. She kept our drinks full and kept checking on us. In the morning we called the front desk, spoke with Melissa, and said there would be no problem having our breakfast delivered to our room. Benny had seen that I had some physical limitations and it was tough for me to get around and she suggested we ask for breakfast be brought to our room. It was brought to our room without an issue. The food was good. Included with the package was a late checkout if 1pm. We live 15 minutes away but will absolutely be staying there again. $ 400 was the total price of the package including all of the taxes. A very good price for what we received.

We booked a 1 bedroom apartment for one night through
. When we arrived they tried putting us in different rooms claiming they were correcting the problem. None of them were 1 bedroom rooms. Finally they said you booked a 1 bedroom apartment but we only use them for extended stay. We ended up going to a different hotel.

We had our wedding just a few days ago at this venue and honestly couldn’t be happier. All the guests (who were mainly out of towners) loved the venue and the walk –ability of the town. Danfords had a nice bar area for the guests with a spa attached to the hotel as well so all the guests got some tlc if desired! The venue was also a real bargain considering what we were getting! We will definitely be going back for our anniversary!

We had great expectations for our stay here. The location is wonderful but while we paid for a water view room, we got a view of the staircase going up to the floor above us. Also, the window coverings in our room literally fell off the windows the first night we arrived and while we repeatedly asked the front desk for maintenance to come and fix them, no one ever did. We were also repeatedly promised a mini-​fridge and never got it. The final straw was that at checkout, the hotel refused to honor the rate that they had quoted us over the phone. Poor service from start to finish.

I stayed here for a weekend and I have to say this is my second time being there and I’m not impressed with the rooms. Our room needed much more than updates it needed repairs there was dust on top of the shower head there was dust on top of the lamps and in the bathroom the fan didn’t work. There was stains on the rug
we stayed on the third floor and there weren’t even screens on the windows and you could open them! There was an outlet for the lamps hanging out of the wall and we had to call housekeeping because we thought there was a stain of blood on the wall in the bathroom! On Saturday our room wasn’t made up till 3 o’clock in the afternoon I had to call the front desk to have them come make up our room! I think housekeeping needs to be improved!
But the staff was very nice the food was very good much better than last time so I will give it 2 stars for the people people that work there! But unfortunately I can’t give it for housekeeping or for the way the place is kept up!

I thought this place was amazing! The room was like a lowkey honeymoon sweet! My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night in January as a holiday getaway and loved it!

My one night honeymoon at Danford’s was a bust…
The sole purpose of staying there was to have a nice dinner, sleep over, and then wake up for a day at the spa. Unfortunately, after we checked in and went to see the spa there was a sign on the door stating that it was permanently closed. We then went to the front desk and the receptionist told us that they closed last week and don’t have anything to do with the spa. She told us that Danford’s was just the landlord — yet the spa and Danford’s advertise together? And the spa is promoted in the in room binder and map? The girl «felt so bad» but there was nothing she could do. You’d think for $ 260 they would have kissed my butt a little?!
In addition to the spa being closed. The shower was very loud, it sounded like there was steam engine was outside my window! And breakfast at the Wave was lacking.
Long story short — we will not be staying here again or recommending this place to others.

Our kids got us the Elegance package for my birthday, and we had a wonderful time. Everything was top notch. We had a chilled bottle of champagne waiting in the room. Dinner was included, also a 1 pm check out and buffet breakfast!
Wonderful gift for my husband and I. We had a balcony and harbor view. The town was fun and within walking distance.
I took one star off for the breakfast. It really wasn’t that good.

The accommodations at this «institution» are what you would expect — comfortable. The service, however, is not. One would hope that the service at a locally owned and operated establishment wouldn’t rigidly adhere to their rules as other larger, corporate establishments. Apparently, that’s not the case here. Come here for the location and the charm of the town, but don’t expect anyone to go out of their way for you.

If you like paying a lot for bug bites leaving bright red, 2 inch marks on you for days, you might like Danford’s. After I checked in, I stretched out on a bed in E 10 and quickly got one. Then, I went out for dinner and returned hours later, sat on the bed, and quickly got another bite. Fortunately, the night clerk got me another room and I slept well, once its AC was fixed and the hotel outdoor bar quit blasting C&W music that could be clearly heard a block away. Next day, I went to the desk as asked to see the manager about the bugs; but she refused to see me. Bug bites are business as usual at Danford’s, I guess.

This is my first time eating on the outdoor deck at Danfords. The atmosphere is beautiful! However, the only reason I am here is for the bartender James! He is thoughtful, friendly and overall amazing!!! Thank you for the great service James! Next time you’re at Danfords, you have to go see James the bartender! Also, get the pita hummus and seafood appetizer !!

Nice cocktails! Almost as good as the city and that’s a lot for LI!!! Nice atmosphere to just chill with family and friends.

Very disappointed in their customer service. They would only guarantee our room at 4 PM when their checkout is at 11. That makes absolutely no sense.
They put a «rush» on it, which obviously meant nothing. I had a rehearsal dinner at 4:30 but this didn’t matter at all to them. If I knew this nonsense, I never would have stayed there.

Beware. Danford’s may charge your incidentals credit card for no reason.
My room was prepaid. the day after I checked in, I saw that the hotel charged $ 200 and $ 60 to my card. I asked why at the front desk. The receptionist said she would ask her supervisor and disappeared for over 40 mins. Another receptionist said she could not find the reason for the charge and did not inquire further.
I canceled my credit card.

I have only stayed at this hotel during low season and truly enjoyed it. I can’t imagine how amazing the experience must be during peak season. Almost every room as a gorgeous view of the harbor. The room I stayed in had a very large balcony with chairs so that you can relax and enjoy watching the boats go by. The Port Jefferson Ferry docks just outside the hotel. Watching that dock, load up and head back to Connecticut is also great fun. The room was spacious, clean, and filled with beautiful bright light. There were two separate rooms and each had a TV and plenty of closet space.
The hotel is set up almost like a condo so each has its own entrance from the outside. Amazing for the summer so you are never stuck inside. You can easily step up and enjoy the fresh air.
Danford’s also has a restaurant and bar located in the main check in/​lobby area. They have panoramic views of the water and outdoor seating in the summer. I was able to enjoy their breakfast buffet and lunch. Both of which were delicious.
Port Jefferson is a wonderful town and great place to visit. If you plan to stay overnight, Danford’s is the way to go!

Best place to enjoy a summer day. Great food. Great vibe. And a ferry ride to CT if your really feeling frisky. If you need a day trip, Port Jefferson is worth it.
Did I mention I grew up here and worked at Danfords when I was 16?

As expected this place was its usual perfect mini getaway for the money. I got a groupon for $ 62!!!
The staff was gracious enough to look up which room we stayed in one year earlier for our wedding night and give is that room for our one year anniversary.
The only possible negatives I can even think of is that there was a huge amount of ice all over everything outside and since people have to check in in one building and walk to another, Id say that some salt was in order– alot of salt. Also they end the continental breakfast (which is not super impressive anyway, at 1030am) Other than that– I love love love it here.
The rooms are clean and I love the décor– very long island seaside contemporary. The bed has to be my favorite thing of all– soft white crispy sheets, big fluffy pillows and a fluffy white down comforter– Its like sleeping inside of a fluff sandwich. I think they may have special ordered their mattresses from heaven as well.
Our room (B7) has a cool balcony and water views and then on the other side of the room has views of the village. the bathroom is nice and roomy Id love to have that bathroom in my home–
This place is great I am a fan for sure i always sleep like a log… I do love the offseason. Definatly give it a try!

ZERO surprise to see some many reviews complaining about the staff. Sat at bar while waiting for our room and four of us ordered mixed drinks.
Apparently Danfords is experiencing an ice famine because there was virtually none in the drinks. Secondly, the CO2 was obviously out because our drinks were flat. When i told the bartender, instead of connecting a new tank and replacing our drinks, the bartender told us she had to speak with her manager. Even though is was relatively slow, it took her almost 20 minutes to find her manager. She proceeds to tell us, «my manager says the gas is fine». So either you made all our drinks incorrectly or your manager is wrong, no?
We look at the other end of the bar and the manager is now remaking our drinks using bottled club soda, so yes, the gas was out sweetheart. No apology, but the manager did at least know that you fill the glass with ice unlike the other «bartender».
Oh, let’s not forget that a Stoli club soda, a Stoli cranberry, and Miller Lite cost $ 30. I don’t mind paying for good food or drinks, but if you’re going to hit your customers over the head for $ 12 for a 12 oz drink, at least have someone relatively competent making and serving them.
That being said, the chief engineer named Alex was one of the nicest, competent, and most professional persons I’ve ever dealt with in the service industry.

We stayed here for a night Thanksgiving weekend. It was a good experience — not fabulous, not terrible, just good.
We had a nice room in the building with a fireplace and a balcony. The room size was great — very spacious. The fireplace was a real fireplace which was really nice. However, they only left us one dura flame log, which burned out pretty quickly. We wanted the fire to last the entire night but unfortunately didn’t have another log.
The bathroom was clean with a really nice big rain shower, which I love! The shower was really spacious.
The place was a little run down — the lobby is super nice but the rooms and hallways definitely could use some upgrading. For the price, the rooms could be a little newer and more modern. I know you’re paying for the location, but the price is a little high especially because the rooms/​hallways/​exterior are a little run down.
Free wifi is a plus though!
