De Lamour Salon & Spa

If you’re looking for an experienced hair stylist this really is the best place to come to. I recently moved to the area of the salon from Miami. I was very loyal to my hair dresser there even to a point where I was thinking about just flying back to Miami to get my hair touched up. I randomly walked into De Lamour because of the appearance. Chris did my high lights faster than anyone has ever done!!! I left so satisfied with the results. I never would have thought I could find a stylist better than my original one in FL. All of the staff are very friendly and because of this first time experience I’ve decided to share on Unilocal

I went to this salon because my usual hairdresser wasn’t available and I needed immediate highlights since I’m going away for the weekend. The owner is the only hair dresser and he’s a sweet man and does your hair lightening fast. I didn’t mind the speed bc I was parked in a one hour parking space but he did tug on my hair quite a bit hurting my head. His assistant put this white cream all over the frame of my face which I never had before and didn’t really want the goop on my face. She insisted its for hair dye and I told her I’m not having dye and that we’re using bleach. It turns out the cream is used for those who have actual hair color and not for clients who get highlights. After the hairdresser put the foils in my hair he went outside for a long time and was smoking a cigarette on a bench and chatting with his wife. I kept wondering if he was going to come back in and check on me and after a while I had to stand in the doorway and let him know that I’ve been told that the color comes up quick on me. He had me sit back in their chair and took a quick peek at my hair and said not ready. Finally he had me sit at the sink to get the bleach washed out. The assistant/​hair washer kept vigorously picking at my head after she was done washing it and said she still saw something in my hair. She wouldn’t stop picking and scraping my head!!! I asked her to please stop because it was REALLY hurting my scalp. I couldn’t wait to get out of there! I got home and noticed I had major hair breakage that I’ve never had before! I even noticed that she forgot to wash off all of the white goop that she put all over my face. I’ve never had hair breakage before and it could have been from the bleach being left on for too long or the aggressive hair handling or both.

I have been going to this salon since the day it opened. Iinitially I was only getting my waxing done here by daria (which is by far the best around). She unfortunately had to take some time off but her temporary replacement is just as amazing. After being so impressed with their services I gave Chris a try to cut my hair. Let me tell you: I was blown away by his talents!!! I was going to the same hair dresser for over 10 years and although it was heart breaking to use someone else, I have no regrets! He now does my color as well. I occasionally even go to have him just do a blow out and he is worth every single dollar (not that they are even expensive) If you’re looking for a change or new to the area, I promise you will not be disappointed!

If I had the ability to do so, I would rate this place 10 stars. Like the previous reviewer, I have been seeing Chris for over 15 years in all of the locations he has been. I will gladly follow him wherever he goes (in a non-​stalkerish way). I actually lived in DC for 8 years and would make the trek up to NY to have him style or highlight my hair (despite the 5+ hour trip).
As a stylist, nay… hair artist, he knows exactly how to cut and style your hair to flatter your assets. The same goes with coloring. He listens to what you want but will advise you if your requirements don’t work with your hair type, etc. I have been talked out of a few chunky hair highlight requests back in the day :) Thank God he had the foresight to stop me. I trust him and trust his suggestions and compromises.
His wife Nilda is amazing too. Anytime I am in the area (I thankfully live closer now in NJ), I go straight to her to sculpt and shape my eyebrows. I never need to tell her how I want my brows done… she knows exactly what to do and takes her time. None of that 3 minute wax jobs and being scurried along.
Finally, I have to comment on the atmosphere of de Lamour. It’s like going to a best friend’s house and hanging out for the day. The conversation is hilarious and entertaining. I don’t go there for a simple cut, I go there for the entire relaxing experience.
Try out this salon and Chris/​Nilda. You won’t be sorry!

I have been coming to see Chris both at this location and his previous location in Brooklyn. He has been my trusted stylist for over 10 years and I will never go to anyone else! I have gotten cuts, highlights, formal hair styles (updo), keratin hair straightening, etc… and have not been disappointed once!
I highly recommend this salon and Chris as a stylist. His wife, Nilda, is also excellent at shaping eyebrows and any other waxing service you may need. She’s gentle and considerate of your pains. I love De Lamour Salon!

Very efficient and talented stylist! Friendly and skilled. Highly recommended if you like a professional haircut without having to pay through the nose.

I NEVER take the time to review anything, but this place makes me want to shout off the roof tops «GET YOUR HAIR CUT HERE!!» I was new to the area and after a bunch of crappy bang trims at 7 or 8 different salons, I go to De L’Amour and encounter Chris (I think that’s his name: the owner). I can’t say enough about the quality of a haircut from this guy. It’s like he’s an artist creating a work of art. He takes the time to get your hair RIGHT. As soon as he started to trim my bangs, I could tell he had a level of focus and attention to detail that was on a whole different level than what I had experienced at other salons in the area. With total concentration, he’s spraying my bangs with water, he’s pulling out different pairs of scissors, first he’s on my right side trimming, then he’s on my left side snipping, then he’s gently teasing and shaving the tips with a blade, he’s parting and re-​parting my hair to make sure the hairs are falling the right way, constantly checking his work from different angles. When he finished my bangs, he got out a hair dryer and blew out not only my bangs but the rest of my hair (during a FREE bang trim! Unheard of!). The results were elegant side-​swept bangs that fell across my face at the exact angle and length I had envisioned when I first decided I wanted side bangs. I used to get my hair cut at Warren Tricomi in NYC but now I go here for haircuts (in addition to bang trims) because he is so much better than anyone that ever cut my hair there! And it’s like, ¹⁄₂₀^th of the price!

Great family-​owned salon. Port Jeff location is also a plus! Daria grows her own sugar and makes her own wax. Less painful waxing. Great value for your money!
