Alberta Eye Care

I had my eyes examined at Alberta Eye Care a year ago. I really did like Dr. Armstrong. She was thorough with my eye exam and she is the first eye doctor to diagnose with with dry eye (which explain a number of things in my life). I’ve seen her twice and as an eye doctor like her.
My issues with Alberta Eye Care have been the other staff. After my exam that day, one of the opticians asked if I would like to purchase glasses that day. I asked how much my insurance covered and found it was not much, so I asked to merely have my glasses adjusted. While adjusting my glasses, the optician snapped the frames. She said she was sorry, but did not sound overly concerned or apologetic about it, stating that this happens sometimes when frames are old. I was offered no replacement, no discount whatsoever, which I found to be poor customer service. She offered to help me find new frames and she put some tubing on the frames so that they would be functional in the interim (and make me look like I had a bonus eyebrow). I ultimately purchased glasses elsewhere.
I was going to go back for just an eye exam this week and they ran my current insurance and found that it did not cover eye care. I was given 24 hours to respond to phone calls from them asking if I wanted to keep my eye appointment that was scheduled three days later despite this (they phone calls were Friday afternoon through Saturday morning). If they did not hear from me that my appointment would be canceled. I did not get the opportunity to respond because I happened to be working my 19 hour shift at work and was unable to call back immediately. I would have paid out of pocket as I will be leaving the country soon, but assumptions were made about my desires. I will not go back here again. I would rather have good customer service than be offered beer and wine while having my eyes dilated.

I did not visit the optometrist here, but I did purchase glasses for my 3 year old. The man who helped us (I didn’t get his name!) was very helpful in helping me choose glasses for my 3 year old. They had more choices for young kid’s glasses than a few other places I’d gone. I highly recommend them for their great customer service and frames selection.

Amazing experience from beginning to end! Joel was our optical specialist and he made buying glasses fun!

This place is excellent! I’ve had two annual eye exams with Dr. Armstrong, who is thorough, attentive, professional, and much warmer than the average doc. I trust her. I also really like the energetic, courteous staff. I’ve bought a few different pairs of glasses here (as well as contact lenses) and have always been completely satisfied.

AWESOME. Great staff, cool doctor — smart, down to earth, all around cool chick. I would not hesitate one moment about whether or not you should go here. If you have eyes, you need to go to Alberta Eye Care.

I’m all for supporting independent business and this place is definitely one of them. They don’t carry any big names so you won’t see any frames from Luxottica (ex. Ray bans, Prada, Persol, etc). Those frames are overpriced and crap anyway. Do research for yourself on that and you’ll know what I mean.
What you do get is a unique variety of frames that most people haven’t even heard of. Most are the frames are classy without the large logos on the temples and there are some adventurous frames for those who want to be bold. Although I didn’t buy anything during my visit, I was greeted by a very welcoming staff who answered my questions and let me browse as much as I wanted. Special shout out to Jamie for taking the time to adjust the frames I already had and to educate me on the selection they had. I will note that they can also order frames for you and ship them in case you’re like me and just visiting for the weekend.

They were great at my first eye check appt– on time, friendly, knowledgable. But when my eye was hurt the morning after there was no response or action to say ‘wow, this shouldn’t have happened. Come in and we’ll take a look.’ It was more like ‘make an appt– pay out of pocket– and buy these $ 12 eye drops’. I still have glasses to pick up so I’ll update if they show any kindness.

Everyone was VERY nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place.
When I am in need for a tune up ill be sure to visit these girls again.

I went into Alberta Eye Care with the sole intent of window shopping. I really hate shopping for glasses. It reminds me of buying a car. The people are usually pushy and make it obvious that they’re on commission.
What I found there was an atypical experience. I made it clear that I was just checking out what they had. The service I got was true service. I really felt like they were trying to cater to my needs vs. sell me something.
After trying on nearly every frame in the store I landed on two frames I really likes. They helped me narrow it down by providing hones feedback about which frames looked best on my face (not the more expensive of the two).
I worked with Jess. She’s amazing! She wasn’t pushy and guided me to something that actually fit my face. Not an easy task! There was zero pressure to upgrade my lenses but I was given the information I needed to get what was right for me and fit my budget.
My experience from shopping to exam was amazing! Although I had worked with Jess, I had gone in on several occasions and received great service from everyone. The team there was patient, knowledgeable and very genuine. I’d definitely recommend Alberta Eye Care to anyone in the market for new glasses

I woke up on a Saturday morning with a swollen eye and a fairly large scratch present after removing my contacts. My normal eye doctor wasn’t open so I called Alberta Eye Care. They were booked up for the day but Dr. Armstrong was able to see me as she suggested it could be an emergency.
It turned out that I had a corneal ulcer that could have progressed if I had waited until Monday to see my normal physician. Dr. A helped lead me to a speedy recovery and she even emailed me that evening to make sure things had not gotten worse.
Since then, I’ve had a follow-​up visit and an eye exam to renew my prescription. I didn’t have to wait long at all to see the doctor (I was actually seen early both times) and the staff here is amazing. This place is awesome. I’ll never see a different eye doctor again!

My last eye doctor was so great that I have pretty high standards. Dr. Armstrong was wonderful — efficient, friendly, smart, and helpful. Support staff was great too. Everything was on time. Not pushy on sales. Appointments can easily be made online through ZocDoc. Intake is also done on the computer in the office. Offered coffee/​tea/​water when I arrived. No complaints, hands down would recommend this office and Dr. Armstrong to friends and family. (And you, internet stranger!)

Great store with great help. I would recommend asking for Joel. The frames are expensive, but they are very willing to work with your insurance.

This place was great. My only problem is that I didn’t go there sooner. I live and work in the neighborhood and walk by this place all time. When my eyes started bothering me and I’ve never had vision problems I made the mistake of going to the Costco eye doctor because they are the cheapest. The Doctor there told me I could try reading glasses.
Fast forward a year later and my eyes are still bothering and I’m starting to worry there is something seriously wrong with me. I decided to go and try this place. The Doctor there was great. She figured out quickly my vision was fine and I had dry eye and gave me drops. Just like that, feeling so much better. Thanks Dr. Laura.

I have been wearing glasses or contacts for over 17 years with annual visits to different optometrists in multiple cities and states. Alberta Eye Care is by far the best office that I have ever visited. The staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Dr. Laura is exceptional. She has a way of explaining nerdy doctor things while remaining engaging and efficient. I LOVE the office space and was super impressed with the selection of fun eye wear to choose from. I was told my order would be available for pick up in a week and I received a call two days later that it was ready for pickup.
All of the above mentioned warrants a five star review in my book, but to top it all off, I received an email the day after my visit with attachments of receipts for my order, pictures of my eyes and a link to my full chart from a secure website online. Wow… just… wow. To be this awesome AND paperless? My 17 year search for the perfect optometrist ends with Alberta Eye Care.

Dr. Laura Armstrong and her entire staff are professional and knowledgeable. Kelsey greeted me with a warm smile and offered water me when I walked through the door for my first appointment.
This friendly approach continued throughout the visit. Dr. Laura employs technology to her advantage — I was able to avoid dilation and go straight back to work without any down time. I love that they have a paperless system and I walked away with only one piece of paper! Dr. Laura was very thorough and took the time to answer my questions. Her first approach to manage my dry eyes was to prescribe natural remedies that don’t cost a fortune.
The lead optician, Katie, listened as I described what I was looking for in my frames and said ‘I have just the pair for you!’ She was very patient throughout the process while I debated over the fantastic selection of frames and explained my bill showing the break down of charges and who covered what.
Hours later I received a summary of my visit including all my patient files and I’ll pick up my glasses next week.
I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Laura and her team at Alberta Eye Care. I will be sticking with them!

«I f***ing love these!!» I exclaimed after I tried glasses I’d ordered from AEC. «Oops, sorry!» to the receptionist, «I was just really excited.» That was the result of a great appointment.
Let’s scroll back a bit.
I’d noticed my contacts and glasses weren’t cutting it so much anymore. As in, things were blurrrrrrrrrry. Grrrrg. I finally buckled down and… booked an appointment online. Easy peasy. They call to remind you the day before & have you fill out forms online (yay minimal paperwork @ the appointment itself!!).
I show up and offered a glass of water while I waited. I’d just started perusing the glasses when Dr. Armstrong whisked me away to my appointment. After all the usual «better or worse» and «cover your left eye» fun parts, she got down to business. Instead of just saying «your eyes are worse, here’s the presciption» she talked to me about my eye care habits. What I did for work, how much I used the computer, etc. She suggested that I wear reading glasses when doing computer work to avoid eye strain. Also, she explained WHY contacts really do need to be changed out bi-​weekly and switched me to month lenses since that’s about when I was doing so anyways.
After I was done with the brass tacks, Jessica sat me down to review what I wanted to buy that day. Confessing that I hadn’t bought glasses in ages, she undauntingly started pulling out random frame for me to try until I found THE pair. She then reviewed my options for lenses, coatings, etc. I was so at ease I found myself chit chatting comfortably with Jessica, something I’m not apt to do at all with strangers.
My glasses were done the next day & when I picked them up they made sure that they fit correctly and I was comfortable with them before I left.
It’s definitely more expensive than say, Costco, but in this case you absolutely get what you pay for. Extremely thorough care, thoughtful help and glasses I absolutely f**king LOVE.

Fantastic service. I originally stopped by last summer while I was glasses shopping and while I didn’t buy glasses from them, I remembered how nice they all were and decided to change over here to have Dr. Armstrong as my new eye doc and am so glad I did! Not only are they much more convenient to my home in NE but their service is awesome and for the uninsured, prices are competitive. Most importantly though, Dr. Armstrong is very very kind and understanding of my fears when it comes to people getting anywhere near my eyes!!! She is the first to actually get pictures of my eyes which for my whole life I couldn’t have taken because I get panicky — so I’m definitely a fan :) She’s also very good at educating you about the health of your eye, yay!

I always thought that every eye doctor was 60+ and male. And it didn’t bother me that much, because I’ve had a slew of great eye doctors. But then I found Dr. Armstrong, who is both young and female, and it made me feel like I was getting a 2 for 1 special:
1. Getting my annual eye exam checked off the list
2. Supporting a woman in a male-​dominated field
5 stars because I received amazing service from everyone I met at AEC. Dr. Armstrong was very patient with my questions and her staff was even more patient with my eyeglasses selection… They even role playing with me, which is one of my favorite things ever. While my glasses arrived a few days later than anticipated, they were well worth the wait.
I almost deducted a star because AEC doesn’t carry Nike eyeglasses but then decided not to. That said, PLEASE START CARRYING NIKE GLASSES! They are super-​hip, there aren’t enough places in town that carry them, and there are a lot of people who would like to start wearing them.

Dr. Armstrong and her staff are amazing. I am a terrible patient — there is nothing I dislike more than a trip to the eye doctor. And I go as infrequently as possible. But Alberta Eye Care has exceeded my expectations. I will not be playing the «call 1−800-Contacts a day before my prescription expires so I can get another year without going to the eye doctor» game anymore. I found my optometrist!
I’ve been wearing contacts that have not been right for me for over a year. I thought that blurry vision was just a part of getting older (I just turned 31). But Dr. Armstrong spent extra time helping me find a pair of contacts that are perfect… and I can see clearly again.
Her staff was willing to verify and bill my insurance company all were super friendly… even to an anxious patient like myself.
If you are shopping around for a new eye doctor… Dr. Armstrong is it.
