I am a custom jeweler and teacher of jewelry making. I Opened the studio/​workshop in 2009 to offer classes for beginners to advanced students. I also do custom work. Studio available to experienced students to work on thier own pieces $ 10.00 an hour. minimum 3 hours

Jewelry is my passion. I began as an apprentice. I have been making jewelry for 35 years. I create1 of a kind pieces, I made Cindi Lauper’s 18 K Wedding Ring. I worked in production making 50 – 90 pieces a day, selling my work at the Museum of Modern Art in N.Y.. My skills include Fabrication, forging, diamond setting, wax working. I have always enjoyed teaching students the Art of Jewelry Making. I taught in Chicago, Conn. and Portland. It is a joy to work in this medium. It is my life’s passion. My studio is fully equipped from hand tools to rolling mill. It is available for experienced student to rent as well. $ 10.00 an hour, 3 hour minimum

So far I’ve only taken one class from Barbara (3 Stacked Rings class) and I already know I’ll be back for more. She is a kind and patient teacher who makes you feel welcome in her studio. It was extremely satisfying to end the class with 3 completed sterling silver and stones rings that I made myself. I left feeling very motivated to learn more about the jewelry making process.

Barbara does it all. You have to check out this amazing jewelry shop. Engagement rings and wedding bands are her specialty. She has independent diamond brokers, does custom work, and can create a near exact match of almost any piece. Don’t pay extra for tons of sales people or big box stores. Talk to Barbara.

Barbara Kennedy of Artisans of Metal and Thread is an exceptional jeweler! She has both her own line (from which I have bough multiple pieces) and can repair or remake your old jewelry at a very reasonable price. I trusted her to fix my great grandmother’s 18 karat gold engagement ring, and I’m so glad I did. She made it look better than it ever had! She has the credential and training that exceeds most other jewelers in town AND she’s affordable.
I highly recommend checking out one of her classes — affordable, fun, and you walk away with a handmade treasure. Kids and adults alike can have a lot of fun! A truly unique Portland outing!

A cement fountain colapsed on my hand. My wedding ring saved my fingers from breaking, but was badly crushed. I decided to have it completely redesigned. I came up with a concept and Barbara made it a reality! I love my ring. I’m going to have Barbara add a couple more diamonds to it soon. She is a true artist!
