Atomic Auto

Atomic is the best. They kept my old Saab 900 running for me years ago and I really appreciated their honesty and skill. Sadly, I ended up selling the Saab and figured I’d try to find a mechanic closer to me for issues with my new Crosstrek. Long story short, after trying multiple other shops on the West side, I realized the guys at Atomic are not just the best Saab mechanics in town — they are the best period. Friendly, easy to communicate with, honest, competent — I could go on and on. They will be servicing my Crosstrek (and other future cars) as long as they are still willing to work on them.

I’m happy to add another 5 star review to the folks at Atomic. They deserve it. Friendly, relaxed, informative, professional, not pushy, going the extra mile, all of the things that make dealing with car repair a great experience. Can you ever say that about having to deal with a broken vehicle? I have a Nissan, so not the typical atomic profile. But they were happy to fix it and the online link to pictures and notes from mechanics is next level great. Thank you for also fixing my stupid little brake light! It’s the little things that add up to top notch service.

Cale and team made my Prius 90k check as easy and honest as possible. Atomic’s communication processes are amazingly clear and timely… from scheduling to estimates to explanations to vehicle pick-​up. One of the very best auto repair experiences, from start to finish.

So, first I must share a thing to be aware of: Park in the lot. This should be obvious. And it’s obvious once I did it, but see, they sell cars here, too. So, I thought it was a lot full of cars for sale. I tried to drive down an incredibly narrow entrance into the garage. That was not the right thing to do. Do not be like me. I’m a software engineer, but sometimes, I am the dumb. Enter the lot from NE Lawrence would be my now-​experienced advice.
Okay, once I actually did what was supposed to be done, it was great. Customer service was fantastic at check-​in, and then it’s in a great area.
TANGENT/​but kinda related: I walked over to Jasmine Pearl Tea Tasting room (you can’t be on your computer there, just so’s you know), and I got some tea. Then, the Pie Spot is right there. Had coffee and did wifi things on my laptop. Then, if you’re into fancy cheese or other grocery items (and Pastaworks) there’s Providore Fine Foods. Plus, there’s other stuff around there. My point: I didn’t go in the waiting room, though I saw that they had one. I wish I could report on how it is, but I was having fun exploring the area.
Back to the shop! I got a text when my car was ready! AWESOME WAY TO NOTIFY ME! I didn’t have to head back early and wait. It was ready. Again, great customer service. And I got recommendations for what to do next time, but no one tried to get me to do anything just because I was at almost 60K miles (which sounds like a good mileage argument for getting things done). Something that I noticed (perhaps because I work in a male-​dominated industry) is that he kept referring to my mechanic as «she,» which I think is awesome. I mean, someday, maybe that won’t be a big deal, but it stood out to me, and I thought it was cool.
Up until this point, my car has always gone to the dealer, but Ron Tonkin bought my Hyundai dealer, and now it’s not a Hyundai dealer, so I branched out. I’m glad I did! Will return – and will likely get the recommended services next time I’m in there.

What a great find. We own an older Saab convertible, and this place understands Saabs. The service was exceptionally fast and very reasonably priced. This will be our go-​to place for our car from now on.

Great great great! These guys have been working on my Toyota Sienna since they inspected it before I purchased it three years ago. They’ve been nothing but skilled, reliable, and friendly. Also, as a woman who has previously worked on her own cars, it’s refreshing to interact with mechanics who don’t talk down to me and who assume I can understand what they’re talking about.

After buying a car that seemed to have an endless list of problems, I was at a complete loss. Luckily, I found Atomic Auto which has been my saving grace. FAYE
has worked on my car over the last 9 months sticking with my budget, scratching problem after problem off my list, reassuring me, explaining everything to me in layman’s terms, been extremely prompt and has exuberated amazing communication. I don’t know where I’d be without her, or the rest of the Atomic crew. They’ve been friendly every time I’ve gone in and went out of their way to make sure that I was happy and in the loop. Their online notes make it very easy to understand what they worked on and what was fixed. Wish I could give them more than 5 stars!!! Very affordable, great service, friendly staff, convenient text/​email system that really streamlined the entire experience. I’d highly recommend them and will definitely continue to use these guys.

These guys really are THE BEST! Been taking my car to them for years and completely trust them — superb customer service and fair pricing. These guys are on their A-​game and it shows.

Back again, this time with our spankin’ new RAV4. The Atomic crew once again rocked the house. Did a wonderful job installing a transmission cooler so we can tow safely our little camping trailer for festival season. Always reasonable & thorough. Big ups guys!!!

I bought a used 2004 prius and had some immediate issues where the car wouldn’t start for a short period of time and decided I needed to move onto a flat surface and re-​engage the parking brake (while already in park on a flat surface). I researched the issue and brought my research and description of the problem to the toyota dealership where they ran the error codes and quickly told me I needed $ 3k+ of computer replacements (no dice). Did some searching for an independent body shop who handle these cars and found Atomic. Right away Travis was amazing to chat with, schedule with, and was interested in my problems. I was able to leave the car for a few days with his team and they ended up suggesting a repair that had NOTHING TO DO with the computers and cost a fraction of the dealership’s estimate. Not only that, they were obviously very thorough in their diagnosis and just the level of curiosity and problem solving they were willing to talk through with me was extremely refreshing compared to my previous experience (all dealerships).
Long story short, they fixed my prius at a fraction of the cost, followed up personally multiple times to make sure it was fixed, and have earned my business for the life of this car (and any others to follow).
If you’re looking for a mechanic who actually cares about getting your car fixed right the first time vs. getting the run-​around at a dealership, come here you won’t regret it.
Sidenote: their software they use for service and communication is also top notch and extremely helpful.

Travis is awesome and I love how they communicate via text message.
My Service Engine light came on and they replaced the sensor and the thermostat. A few days later the Service Engine light came on again. I brought it in the next morning and this time it was a vapor issue. They were so nice and texted me at the end of the day that my car was ready for pick up. When I asked how much they said they had replaced a broken valve and there was no charge. I have found my auto shop!

Great service and really nice employees. Everything was taken care of in a timely manner. Travis went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the outcome of my appointment. I greatly appreciate they send e-​files of my records directly to my inbox; it makes keeping my records in one palce so convenient, not to mention no wasted paper! Thanks Travis, Faye and team!

I am echoing what everyone else has to say, but I was seriously amazed at how gracious and accommodating Travis and the whole team at Atomic Auto are.
I went in because my «check engine» light had come on. Toyota and another shop were both going to charge me over $ 100 to do diagnostics; Travis quoted me at $ 50 and also gave me a loaner for the day. They didn’t end up finding anything wrong with my car but removed a nail from my tire and patched it for free! They were so nice and helpful an I will definitely be back when I have an actual problem with my car.

I’m blown away by how awesome this place is. I’ll just add to the chorus of 5 star reviews.
I came with a 2004 Hyundai Elantra that needed some minor repairs. The «check engine» light was on and it was making a funny sound, etc. They replaced a filter and changed the oil. In the process of lifting the car up, all four struts extended and broke. I came to pick up the car and it was barely drivable. From my perspective, it looked like they broke my car after a simple oil change.
In fact, this is a common defect of the 2004 Hyundai Elantra that they discovered The struts were already to the point of breaking, they just needed a little nudge from being lifted up. They did some googling and showed me how other people had the same problem and how it was a manufacturer defect with the parts.
I would have given them 5 stars for their service alone, but they went above and beyond by replacing the parts at cost. I’ve never encountered a business with such amazing customer service.

This is the BEST auto shop ever. Customer service is incredible — my boyfriend was driving my car one night and it kept having trouble starting. The shop was about to close, but the owner Travis gave us his home address and replaced the battery for us there, on his own time! And this was only our 2^nd experience here!
In addition to their kindness and willingness to help, Atomic Auto has awesome digital reports that offer you transparency and insight on what’s actually going on with your car.

Summary:
Atomic Auto is one of those rare honest and capable auto-​body shops, but just realize that their primary focus is SAABs, hybrids, and electric vehicles. They are also incredibly busy (a good sign for an honest auto mechanic) so you may have to wait a bit for repairs. But it’s worth it!!!
Full Story:
I had a slow air leak in one of the tires on my car. I brought my car to another tire shop in town, but their final repair bill indicated that they had patched the wrong tire! So I went to Atomic Auto to have them try their hand at fixing what should have been an easy repair for any tire shop.
Atomic Auto texted me late into the night to fit me into their busy schedule. After dropping off my car, Atomic Auto had found the tire patch from the other business: It turned out that the other business had patched the correct tire after all! Atomic Auto even verified that the patch was sound and probably not leaking.
It would have been incredibly easy for Atomic Auto to take credit for the other guy’s repair job, especially since I was led to believe that the other shop had messed up and patched the wrong tire! If Atomic Auto had said they had found and patched the leak that was missed by the other guys, I would have believed them. Instead, they were honest with what they found and didn’t charge me for an already-​fixed problem.
I was impressed by the level of honesty and straightforwardness that I received at Atomic Auto, and will definitely come back here again!

Travis (the proprietor) is honest, quick, and hands-​on. It so refreshing to enter an auto-​body shop where the culture is fun and its employees are down-​to-​earth. I had a tire leak that was unpatchable, and they put my spare on free of charge so I was able to drive home minutes later. They got me quickly on their busy schedule for a replacement tire, and completed the job on time. I never felt belittled or rushed, nor was I upsold unnecessary add-​ons.
Other auto-​body shops, take note: THIS is how you get repeat customers. By adding value to the sale (free spare-​tire change), by being honest (no upselling), and by creating an inclusive and relaxed environment where your customers feel heard.
