Aybla Grill

Lamb gyro is really good! I love how flavorful the meat is without being greasy. All the veggies tasted fresh, and complemented the meat and tahini perfectly. I wish they toasted the wrap (not sure what it’s called), though — it gets soggy pretty quickly.
Prices are reasonable — we paid $ 7 – 8 for a super (aka extra meat) lamb gyro.

Best gyro I’ve ever tasted! Get the Super Gyro! I got the Super Gyro with lamb. It tasted fresh and the meat to topping to bread (laan?) ratio was perfect! The lamb wasn’t greasy and all the bites I took were clean (not dragging out whole pieces of meat/​veggies). The prices were about average for a food truck. They are a food truck worth adding to your list of go-​to food trucks.

Hands down the best lamb gyros in town. I have been to at least a half dozen carts/​restaurants around PDX and this cart is the gold standard.

This cart has the best meaty gyro in town. I never go anywhere else since I tried another cart and hot 90% salad. Don’t go anywhere else if your into a really meaty gyro

I loove, loove shawarmas. End of story. We tried the super lamb shawarma ($ 9) with a side of baba ganoush ($ 0.75) and it definitely had enough content to fill me up. The lamb was very tender and juicy and the entire wrap was burning to the touch, which made me so giddy to tear apart the wrapping to get at the wrap. Unfortunately, as much as I love eggplant, I didn’t like their baba ganoush, think it was just a bit too sour for my taste. I hear a great deal on their chicken shawarma as well, maybe I’ll check that out next time!

There are SO many Mediterranean carts and restaurants in Portland, and, in my opinion, only a few stand out. Abyla is one of the standouts. I had a great chicken gyro this past Sunday, and also shared a mezza plate with my friend. She added on lamb, which brought the mezza to $ 10. Great deal for the amount of food we got.
The plate came with lamb shwarma, dolmades, falafel, salad, hummus, and baba ganoush, all served with a side of pita. Everything was really tasty, and I loved the lamb. My $ 6 gyro was excellent. Big chunks of chicken, tasty tatziki sauce, greens, and tomatoes I think. It was a very tasty sandwich. The one downside to this pod is there really isn’t any seating, other than a park across the street, which still leaves you eating off of your lap. We lucked out and got two of the three stools that Abyla has built in to their cart. It made the experience much more enjoyably.

When I was walking around checking out all the food carts on this block, I was stopped in my tracks by the glorious smell coming from Aybla.
I got a hummus plate, and a super chicken gyro.

I had to take a moment after my first bite of gyro to praise the lord for this gift. They were very generous with my hummus plate too, which was very appealing to me.
There was enough hummus left for me to take it home and enjoy for lunch the next day.

Our first experience with Portland’s food carts. It was a really good lamb gyro. I got the super gyro (bigger and more meat) and it filled me up. My girlfriend was clumbsy and dropped her Greek salad. Without hesitation the woman was already making her a new one. That was really nice.

Pretty good lamb gyros but not the best I’ve ever had. This place is more like a 3.75 stars because of the friendly lady taking orders and you get your order pretty fast. Plus you get a free soda or bottle of water if you text GYRO to 51 660.

On a whim, and while the girls were nursing their hangovers, my bestie picked us up some gyros from this little cart. Who knows how she came to find it though I imagine she also did her Unilocal homework.
She brought a chicken gyro which was filled with plump, flavorful, juicy chicken and that sauce. THAT SAUCE! Wow. It was just delicious. It was literally gone in 60 seconds.
Now, on our last day, in fact our last few minutes in Portland, we absolutely had to get some beef/​lamb gyros before we headed to the airport. We had our cab driver stop at the street. Despite the time just ticking away and potentially missing our flights, we couldn’t leave without hitting this place up.
We put in our orders and wow it took a while. But I believe that was cause they had just opened.
We all told each other we would wait to eat our gyros at the airport. That totally didn’t happen. As soon as we had them in our hands, we opened the wrapping and started chipping away at ‘em. I told myself I would save some for later, yeah, again, that was a fail. It was just that good.

Portland downtown is littered with Mediterranean food carts. Compared to el masry, small pharaoh and other gems, aybla doesn’t make heads spin.
There are other Mediterranean carts serving gyros in the same pod, give them a try. You won’t miss aybla.

Very solid Lamb gyro. Normally $ 6, but $ 5 after 3pm which is nice. I personally liked the simplicity of them, and the taste was very good as well.

Not the best Mediterranean food I’ve had, but definitely a great deal for lunch. I love me some baba ganoush and falafel, so Aybla drew me in. For $ 8 you can get a vegetarian mezze plate with all the best-​of: hummus, baba ganoush, dolmas, 3 falafels on a bed of lettuce. A total meal deal and huge portion for the price.
The falafel was not the best I’ve had — a bit tough and granular, it kind of crumbled apart when I cut into it. And the baba ganoush and hummus were almost indistinguishable to me. Still good, just slightly bland. The pistachio baklava was amazing though! For $ 1.50 this is a must. The large triangle is dripping with honey and filled with salty pistachios. It will redeem any disappointment with the savory items.
Note there’s only one woman working here, taking orders, running payments and making the food. You may wait 10 mins, but that’s still some pretty fast & fresh food.

With so many choices to choose from at lunch on this block, Aybla is a great option. The portions are huge, the prices are reasonable, and the line is always long. Which of course is a good sign. Another bonus? They’re not cash-​only!
I had the Mezza Platter with pita, salad, hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, and dolmas. Tons of food for just one person but totally worth it.

Falafel is absolutely subpar. It seems the meat options are your best bet. This review is based solely on falafel (of which I have eaten since I was a child and have had it both in Africa & Europe so I know my damn falafel) Again there are plenty of carts nearby to do you right on the falafel end for you to order that here. I was an inch away from getting the lamb and decided oh maybe I won’t do meat today. Wrong choice. I will maybe come back to sample the rest but if an item isn’t good but all your other items are… it just kills the mood. No. Falafel. But the lady was nice and when she was cooking someone’s food her attention was fully on it which was nice. So yes.

This truck is so good I specifically come back to this food truck court for it! I have tried several other trucks here just because I was around to get my delicious gyro.
The super lamb gyro: I try gyros wherever and whenever I can. This may have caused my weight gain in Greece, but it was worth it. These gyros — in Portland, no less! — are worthy. Thickly sliced lamb, properly spiced, and still moist. Delicious tzakiki, generously applied. Veggies, feta crumbles, and a moist pita? Yes!
The fries: feta crumbles, a tad bit of dressing, and a bit of salt and pepper. Just what I remembered from Athens. Definitely a must.
I have been back here at least 4 times, so I am confident in my rating; consistent taste and quality. Whenever I am in this part of town, I come to Aybla. I am looking forward to some of their other locations, as well. Good Greek, here in Portland? Family friendly? Friendly service? Check, check, check!

I have never had a gyro in my life this delicious.
I was skeptical at first because the trucks and the area in general look sketchy and I wasn’t able to check Unilocal at the time. Also I’m from Chicago where delicious greasy gyros are available everywhere.
I ordered the super chicken gyros and at first was disappointed at how expensive I thought it was just for a gyros sandwich but SO SO WORTH IT! There was so much meat and their sauce that came with it was so delicious.
Definitely recommending this place to everybody!

I ate this gyro when it was cold and slightly squished and would still give it 5 stars. I recently took Amtrak up to Portland and decided to grab myself some more Portland food to tide me over on the the 16 hour ride home. Why fill up on train food when you can have awesome Portland street food? I bought a lamb gyro here at noon, shoved it in my backpack, and then finally got around to eating it about 6 hours later. The lamb was amazingly well seasoned for something so cheap. I can only imagine how good this place must be when it’s straight from the cart. Delicious food at a very affordable $ 6. Portland has a great food scene, and this place completely deserves 5 stars, even with the fierce competition all around it.

Ordered the super gyro for $ 8, it was a big portion and every bite was delicious.
The lamb was marinated, the pita fresh and the salad and garlic sauce perfect.
Do yourself a favor when in Portland.

Wow!
After waiting with my friend for about 15 minutes without even being acknowledged by the cart attendant at Namu, I decided to find something else on my lunch break.
I was pleasantly surprised with Aybla Grill. The service was great, and upon ordering I received my food within less than a fifth of the time I spent waiting at Namu.
I ordered a lamb gyros which cost $ 6.00. The only reason why I was hesitant on eating here was that there are so many Mediterranean food and gyros food carts within the Portland area. SOOO many. I bet you can’t walk by a stream of food carts in downtown without crossing at least one.
Eating a gyros at the one of many, I didn’t expect much. As I took my first bite, there was something oddly distinct about this gyros that makes it stick out amongst others. It was so deliciously satisfying. The meat was lusciously gratifying and stood out amongst other gyros I’ve had. It was very thick, tender, and well seasoned. It complemented the tzatziki sauce perfectly, and he supplied a great amount of sauce making for a fantastic sandwich. This gyros wasn’t overpowered with the flavors of vegetables and onions like some that I have had frequently are. It was a simple gyros, with excellent flavor, and the chopped parsley was a perfect touch.
I’m excited to try out more items from this place and am excited for the potential.

LOVE this stand! The folks are nice, the lamb gyro is awesome, and they’re easy to find – right on the corner at 5^th and Oak – don’t go to the other one. The other gyro stand has one that is more like a stew than a gyro, and I don’t mean that in a good way. But Aybla Grill has great lamb, fresh vegetables, and a tzatziki sauce that doesn’t run everywhere, which is kind of miraculous.
There’s a nice tree to lean against during the brief wait, or Aybla has an awning to keep the rain off, when necessary. I thought every gyro was pretty much the same before I tried this one. It’s a winner and full of delictability (which is not a word, but I bet you get it).
I’ve eaten at this stand a number of times, and I always finish my meal with complete satisfaction. There’s a lot to choose from on their menu, though I love the gyro so much that it’s my #1 pick. Get on over there.
