I feel pretty lucky to call Baiyok my neighborhood Thai spot! I have ordered many salad rolls in my day, and Baiyok’s have the best Thai Salad Rolls I have ever tasted. I like to order the salad rolls with tofu, basically so I can focus on the peanut dipping sauce. This peanut dipping sauce is the most perfect combination of peanuts, salt and spiciness. It is the best from any Thai restaurant I have been to. All of their dishes are excellent. I tried the Pa-Nang salmon and all the flavors melded great together. My favorite Thai restaurant in East Portland!

Pad Thai and Thai Fried is so good here. Lovely little place, my boyfriend and I call it the purple house :-)

Parking is a pain. But the food is worth it! Been coming here for years with our family. I’ve yet to have a bad meal here. Small and very intimate dining.

I go here at least once a month and always get enough for leftovers the next day. So good!

Was looking for some food last night when I came across this Thai food spot. The parking out front was scarce but we went at a good time. The wait for the food was not bad and the crab Rangoon appetizer was pretty good. Flakey and crispy with creamy/savory crab in the middle. Got pad Thai(of course) and yellow curry(of course) both of which were reasonably priced. The service was decent and quick but almost felt rushed for how little guests were there. Granted it was 1.5hours before closing. Overall 4⁄5 stars will check them out during lunch next time

Been to his place 2 or 3 times and have gotten a different curry every time. Each one has been amazing but if you are looking for SPICY this isn’t necessarily the place for you. I love good flavor and great spice the flavor is there but all they do for spice is add chili flake. I have also tried the fried rice and the pad Thai both of which is awesome but I love me some good curry.

First time here dine in. I ordered Pad woonsen with veggies. It was ok nothing spectacular. But like most thai restaurants the portion was on the small side. Im always left scratching my head. Why do all of these thai restaurants serve such small portions? It makes me not want to return again. Especially when i do not order any protein. Our waittress at Baiyok was rather cold, when asked for chilli peppers she answered«no» we dont have any” which was ok but it just felt like she would have rather have been some place else. She may have just been having a bad day ive had those myself. All and all the food was fine. But again the terribley small portions makes me not want to return to so many of these thai restaurants Baiyok is no exception.

Food was amazing. Loved the pineapple fried rice and green curry. The crab Rangoon was a must have! Excellent service, clean with a touch of class.

Now the portions are smaller but they still cost the same. At least I didn’t get any egg shells in my food the last couple times I ate there. Minus one star for the smaller portions though.

I guess it just wasn’t my thing. Barely any parking, prices are a little high, given all the great options on 82nd, the take out food came pretty slow, and the portions were nothing to write home about. The food wasn’t exactly bad, but I can’t remember an order of pad kee mao I liked less than this one. Description mentioned vegetables, but that really only meant a bunch of onions, some mushrooms, and a few small pieces of red bell and basil. It was mostly a pile of greasy noodles and a bit of chicken. Other reviews note this dish as very good, so maybe I caught them on a bad day. Too many options on 82nd for me to come back here.

This place has the best Thai food! I tried a dish called«Rad Nah» in a few places and none of them can beat Baiyok! I would give this place 5 stars because there food is just sooooo good but the place itself is not the best and you rarely see people eating inside cause it’s a bit run down but the food makes up for the place :)

Ordered takeout for first time today. I was hesitant at first due to location and first impressions. We all ordered something different and it was all much tastier than expected. The only complaint was that a medium spice was hotter than expected, so go a notch lower if you are used to a moderate«medium» spice. I would give them 5 stars if their establishment felt or looked cleaner. Overall excellent Thai for the price! Big plus is being open on Sunday for dinner.

I picked this place based on other reviewers comments and it did not dissapoint. We ordered the potstickers, yellow curry and sweet and sour. The appetizer came within 5 minutes of getting our drinks! The entrees were delicious. The yellow curry a bit small, but packed with flavor. What I liked about the sweet and sour was that it was full of fresh vegetables and sweet pineapple chunks. Service was attentive and friendly. We ate here alone on a Sunday evening, but in the time we sat, about 10 or 12 people picked up to-go orders. The food was good and you could see that by the people coming through the door and the phone ringing off the hook. We will be back.

I normally don’t write a negative review about an establishment until I’ve been disappointed by them no less than three times, but man, I was SO thoroughly disappointed in Baiyok — a place I’ve been excited to try — that I feel compelled to pen this review. First of all, the food is good. It didn’t knock my socks off — it’s nothing like, say, Lemongrass Thai — but it was good, solid Thai food. I especially liked that the curry wasn’t too sweet, the pad thai wasn’t too oily, and the fresh rolls tasted — you guessed it — fresh. The only part I didn’t like was my Thai Iced Tea, as it was overly sweetened to the point of being sickly. So okay, the food is a solid 3.5 stars But the service? I mean, it was nearly laughable in its terribleness. I’ve perused through the recent reviews, and it seems others have had the same issues with this particular waitress, so I guess my question is: Why is she still working the front of the house? Not only was she more concerned with CLIPPINGHERNAILS behind the cash machine than helping us(ewwwwwwwwww!), but she would ask us a question, and before we had time to answer, spin on her heel, mumble something unintelligible, and head back from whence she came. This happened multiple times. So many times, in fact, that it became a running joke for the table. We never did figure out why she even bothered asking if we needed anything, considering she had no intention of listening. Service: 1 star. Total stars: 2.5, but since Unilocal won’t let me be so generous, I’ve chosen to round down rather than round up as I would normally do; the service was just too reprehensible to give credit where credit isn’t due. Mel PS: MANAGEMENT: I’m not a fan of firing people, but I am a fan of placing people where they’re most effective, and this waitress — I know you know which one I’m referring to — would be better suited in another role. Probably a role that isn’t customer-facing would be best.

I have seen Baiyok Thai probably hundreds of times, as I have schlept down the Avenue of Roses. It’s hard to miss this old purple house next to Wendys. A few acquaintances have remarked that the food is quite good, so on a rainy Monday I finally gave it a chance. The first thing I noticed when I sat down, was that I was the only diner in the restaurant. This was between 5:30 — 7:00. Lots and lots and lots of people came in, ordering paid thai with chicken and a order of fresh rolls(SERIOUSLY, THISISALLANYONEORDERS, it’s the basic bitch of Thai food) but everyone ordered to go. I kind of see why now. The waitress was completely absent most of the time, or she was on her phone at the front desk. She only came by to drop the check after the food was served. The food was okay. I had the beef salad, which to me, is a pretty simple dish. It had a lot of beef in it, and had a nice flavor, but the giant chunks of iceberg lettuce that seemed wilted where not impressive. I had a hard time finding any onion in it either. The Thai iced tea was the biggest disappointment. It hardly tasted like tea, just a sugary mess that I didn’t finish. Do not order the thai ice tea. Prices seemed a little high to me, compared to all the great Thai places in the area that serve up big portions for $ 7-$ 8. Not coming back.

For years, I only knew this place as «the purple building»… «Hey, we’re going to the purple building for lunch, wanna come?». I love the purple building and I love the curries most of all. If you’re looking for great Thai food in Portland, this is a great place to start.

Let me preface my review by confessing that I am not a «foodie» in any way, shape or form. Because of this, my expectations are generally pretty low. Since I am such a non-foodie I usually order Pad Thai at Thai restaurants. My husband, on the other hand, is more adventuresome, has a more discerning palette and actually likes spicy hot food. One thing we like to do is to ask wait-staff what THEY especially like. In the old days this was a common enough question in restaurants. It is a way of saying«What do you recommend»?(We’ve been served some great food just by asking this simple question). So, my husband asked the female server: «What is your favorite dish here»? She was poised with pen and pad ready to write down what we wanted and she replied«Me? oh, don’t ask me… I don’t know. I always eat the same thing here over and over.»(Thinking that whatever THAT is is a safe bet. we pressed her). The answer? Pad Thai. Oooookay. But on top of being disappointedly not versed in the dishes of this restaurant she seemed genuinely irritated by the question… the implication being that she didn’t LIKE any of the food there herself and further(with a shrug) she couldn’t care less what in the h3ll our experience was going to be. Okay! So after more teeth-pulling type questions my husband landed on the Red Curry dish. She explained that it is sort of hot, but not super-hot, so she offered to bring a hot sauce on the side. When she brought out the food she neglected to bring the additional sauce. «Should we have additional sauce»? I asked. She then brings it out. but geez, how could she possibly forget it? She recommended this herself and it was minutes between this decision and the serving of the food. There were no other customers, so apparently on top of a pure dislike for food(other than Pad Thai) at her own restaurant, she also has a sieve for a mind. In the end. My Pad Thai was fine. my husband’s Red Curry was fine, but her attitude SUCKED. Would like to see them paint the building. The prices were fine. I noticed a Willamette Week«Cheap Eats» award decal from 2004 on the door. This place is resting on past laurels… and they should have staff WHOLIKETHEFOOD!

This was just a typical Thai food place in my opinion. I’m not saying that this place is bad, it’s actually good. However, there’s plenty of these places where I come from so I’m not particularly blown away. I ordered a mild pad se ew and it was still pretty spicy so beware! It’s a good place to get a quick bite, but not a place I would go out of my way to try again.

I used to come here frequently for lunch with my sister when she worked on this side of town. Other than her switching jobs, I am not sure why we stopped going here for Thai food. My new clinic is down the street from Bai-Yok and my sister wanted to meet for food so I headed over there on my lunch break. It’s not as good as I remembered it to be or maybe that was it… it was never remarkable enough to recall when I craved Thai food. The Thai Iced Tea was sickeningly sweet. The Tofu Pad Kee Mao had good flavor and I would get that again. However, I didn’t care for the ingredients they put in their Pineapple Fried Rice – when there’s the medley of frozen peas and carrots, no thank you. We had just eaten at Pad Thai Kitchen not too long before that and, in comparison, Bai-Yok is far better. The service is a little slow, it takes awhile for the food to come out that I was stuffing my face as fast as I could so that I could get back to work on time. I have yet to discover a dish here that makes me want to keep come back.

I have been on a streak lately finding some of the best Thai restaurants that Portland has to offer. This week it is Baiyok Thai. I should have known when Don B. reviewed it back in 2008 and called their Pad Kee Mao the best he has had to that date. So guess what I had??? You are so right. Pad Kee Mao and I had it with pork. I generally try this dish see if they can pass the muster so to speak. A lot of people do the Pad Thai noodles to try a new place out for the first time. The plate came out steaming hot as it should, it had great plate presentation with the bean sprouts, carrot and purple cabbage for color. One of the best in terms of protein amount and flavor. The service was on point and checked back without hovering. Take it from me who has been to more than my share of Thai place’s it a try. Don’t let the exterior scare you :)
