GREAT FOOD!!!
Inside was packed but my friend and I were seated at the bar after maybe only a 10 minute wait.
We ordered two specials from the blackboard: German pancake and tomato/​basil omelette. The german pancake was amazing!!! It was more like an enormous eggy custard than the traditional pancake. Lemon curd spread on it yummm. Sweet and sour and QQ. Also it was huge.
The omelette was really soft and runny. If you’ve seen that viral video of a Japanese omelette on omurice being split open then it’s kinda like that! The tomatoes were sooo good and fresh tasting. We ordered potatoes on the side and barely ate any b/​c too full but they were really good and tasted like potato chips kinda.
Also ordered Thai ginger cider which was super crisp and refreshing! Tasted like a less sweet ginger ale.
Would return!

Visiting from California, I’m a big fan of chillaquilles. I was a little hesitant but went for it. Best I’ve had!!! Definitely will be get and stop by next time I’m in Portland. Service was great.

Had breakfast here recently and it was superb. I ordered the cowboy steak. It came sliced and cooked to perfection plated on a bed of pinto beans and crispy fried pork belly all topped with an egg. The server recommended «Dank Sauce» which was amazing. The flavors of this dish were haunting. I’d order it again and again.

A busy place for brunch but if you get there before 10am you have your pick of seats. I had the Olympia provisions with scrambled eggs on biscuits with gravy. It was all right-​maybe it was due to the gravy being really viscous and thick. Pumped up the flavour with some green hot sauce. The eggs were delicious and they do it softer which is more wet which is a nice change.

Outstanding food that meets my criteria for a foodie brunch.
My sister and I went to Bijou Café for Sunday brunch. When you enter, there is a clipboard to write your name and your party — and be sure to read through the house rules while you’re there.
Let’s start with beverages: the juices are expensive, but worth it. I had a screwdriver with the fresh-​squeezed OJ, and it was amazing. I don’t have fresh-​squeezed juice often, so this was a real treat.
I had a unique entrée that resembled a cross between biscuits & gravy and eggs benedict. My fluffy, buttery biscuits were topped with ham, eggs, and then covered in gravy. My sister ordered an omelette, which was unlike any other omelette I’ve ever seen. It was served French-​style, which means the eggs were extremely soft and airy, and the fillings were actually fillings in a egg pocket rather than all mixed in. It was extremely well-​done and incredibly tasty.
Finally, we couldn’t not order one of the specials: the strawberry-​rhubarb German pancake. Wow. I’ve never had anything like it. It was thick and fluffy, eggy, and crispy on the outside. I can only describe it as a hot, sweet, quiche. When paired with the berry syrup on the table… just amazing.
I loved — LOVED — that all the dishes came to the table piping hot. Nothing is worse than cold eggs. To me this means Bijou takes great pride in ensuring their guests are able to taste the dishes as-​intended. I could even see the steam from dishes at other tables. Great timing and communication between the kitchen staff and front of house.
Service was excellent as well. It seems like it’s a lot to ask for friendly service in Portland, and I was please that we received warm, friendly service without going off the deep end of being overly happy to serve us. Everyone we encountered was perfectly pleasant.
We couldn’t have ended our PDX adventure in a better way — this was the type of food and type of experience we had hoped every meal would be on our vacation. I would definitely recommend to locals and visitors alike.

Really nice brunch place. The latte I ordered tasted really burnt, but I wasn’t going to bring it up… However, a waitress noticed something was wrong and came over with a new cup — awesome service. My omelet was super tasty and my friend was really happy with her dish. I recommend it, definitely.

Bijou Café has one of my favorite hot sauces I’ve tried in Portland! There’s really no other way fried chicken tastes better in my opinion and their crispy fried chicken breaking with the red spicy sauce but the spot. The cornmeal pancakes were fluffy, filling, and not too sweet. I was surprised at how good I felt at the end of the meal. It was a lot of food but I didn’t have that greasy, what did I just do feeling I usually feel after fried chicken. I was satisfied but not stuffed, though set for the rest of the day, calorically.
My friend got the cauliflower kale scramble and as was pleasantly surprised how much he loved it, given he’s usually a self proclaimed veggie hater. He said he loved the combo especially with the cheese and actually finished all of his food before I did.
The wait can be long but it’s worth it! Let’s be real, on a weekend you could end up waiting longer at Voodoo anyway.

After a failed attempt to check out Pine Street Market on a Sunday, we searched around for a place to have brunch. My friends and I decided to check out Bijou Café, which has been on my list for years but never had checked out. There were already a lot people waiting inside and outside. We concluded that we didn’t want to wait for more than half an hour for a table, luckily… we were quoted a 25-​minute wait time, just under our 30-​minute tolerance. I feel like we got a table even sooner than quoted.
A couple of us opted for the omelette, the Redwood Hill and Mushroom & Cheddar. My other friend and I both got the Cauliflower… I want to call it a Hash with two eggs over-​easy. It had a mixture of caulfilower, kale, sauteed potatoes, harissa, feta, and roasted red peppers. It was strange that the server had to warn us that the eggs were more runny than normal over-​easy eggs – our minds automatically thought, ‘did they warn us that don’t make their over-​easy eggs correctly?’ Most people that ask for a specific preparation of eggs know what they like. Anyway, that dish was amazing. I loved the combination of ingredients and flavour profile of the added harissa, perfectly seasoned and spiced. Eggs were nicely runny as requested. Friends thought their omelettes were delicious and fluffy, potatoes could’ve been more seasoned. We were content, no complaints here.
Pretty quick turn around time and services was decent. The food was good quality, I enjoyed my dish. I’ll have to return to try other selections on their menu. Overall, comparatively… I prefer Bijou Café over Mother’s Bistro for brunch.

Amazing breakfast/​brunch food. The local hama hama omelette is plain amazing. Everything tasted well made. If you ate the food individually on a brunch plate they are delicious on their own too! For example the ham and biscuits gravy. The biscuits alone was soft and crispy. The gravy yum! The ham was like pastrami, and eggs a nice fry. The chicken and waffles best Ive had. The chicken was tender on the inside, cornmeal pancakes where airy and fluffy and so darn good. I would love to come back here again! Im from New York and next time in Portland, you will see me here.

Stopped in a brunch with my hubby. We wanted to try something new downtown. I was in heaven seeing tofu on the brunch menu. I of course ordered the tofu w seasonal veggies and a side of potatoes and multigrain toast! It was one of the best vegan mills I’ve had for a breakfast!
My husband ordered the brioche French toast and a side of bacon and he too said it was Devine!
Atmosphere was good, service was friendly, I’m sure they get busy on weekends as it was busy on a Monday! Can’t wait to return!

The Oyster Omelet was delicious! You get your choice of a side (potatoes, salad) and a bread choice as well (baguette, bread, banana muffin). Great place for brunch.

Excellent breakfast place with some very cool options. I enjoyed it here even as my wife and I (mostly her) wrestled with our 16 month old grandson. My big disappointment and the reason for my return was my inability to have a Bloody Mary with my breakfast. (no booze when I am on duty with a 16 month old).
Options: They vary from the standard eggs and bacon to more interesting such as the cowboy steak. The German pancakes look awesome.

Parking: We were walking so no opinion here.

It’s been a while since my last trip in to the Bijou Café. I had high hope since my last meal here was good.
I must have timed it just right, because the line moved very quickly and I was seated in less than 5 minutes. The staff was pleasant and friendly. Water and a great cup of coffee were promptly brought to the table. I ordered the Oyster Hash with an egg over the easy. For the first time in my life, the server actually took the time to explain what to expect from my over easy egg — fantastic stuff! Being a bit of a food nerd I really appreciated her sharing that!
The hash arrived in a timely manner. The portion was very large. Beautiful golden potatoes blanketed with caramelized onions and a generous amount of huge plump oysters. And all topped with a perfectly cooked, glistening egg over easy.
It tasted every bit as good as it looked. The oysters were amazing. The potatoes were flavorsome.
Let’s talk about caramelized onions for a minute. Lots of restaurants have them but not a lot of restaurants do them right. I’m takes time to slowly cook the onions down to the sweet golden deliciousness that they can become. Lots of places will just sauté then and finish with a bit of stock — it may look sorta the same, but no where near the taste. Anyway back to the meal at hand — the Bijou’s caramelized onions were spectacular!
All for now, but I will be back again.

It was ok.
The food was good, but the service was slow and unfriendly, and definitely detracted from the experience as a whole. I didn’t feel particularly welcome or like they cared whether or not I was there.
We ordered the Korean pork bowl and the Bravas special; both were good. The menu overall featured a lot of unique combinations.
But, all in all, the experience was lack luster. In Portland, you could do better.

So, this place is amazing. Like for realzies. Staying in Portland on business and this place was across the street. But, other places are also «across the street,» though none had as high a Unilocal score as Bijou.
Deservedly so. Quick service. Amazing food. Lots of menu options.
Slightly odd was the fact that, when I was there, there were 30 customers in the restaurant (I counted). And I was the only female other than the waitstaff. Don’t get met wrong — I felt totally safe and welcomed, and there wasn’t anything weird about it, except the observation that maybe Portland women have primary kid responsibilities and only men have the time to go out to breakfast?
TIP: no Amex, though they take other plastic.

Breakfast: I had the French toast (half cinnamon and half brioche bread) and it was to die for. Bijou is a Small, but quaint café that sits near tons of small shops. It also has an impressive area behind the dining area. The service was prompt and the atmosphere is very relaxed.

Stopped in at Bijou Café for Saturday brunch around 10am, and we only waited about 2 minutes for our table. We ordered mimosas and green tea. They serve loose leaf tea here, which was wonderful. I had the vegetarian hash and my husband had the oyster omelet – both were amazing! The omelet was more like a burrito with egg instead of tortilla. It was absolutely packed with oysters, bacon, and onion. Delicious. The veggie hash was full of flavor and included cauliflower, kale, potatoes, roasted red peppers, topped with two eggs. I could eat it everyday.

We had brunch here before we went on our road trip to the coast.
I had the ham sandwich with side salad and my husband ordered an egg, biscuit, gravy plate.
Food was EXCELLENT (we didn’t have a bad meal on our vacation) and the service was great.

Food is top notch and service usually is. Last time the 2 of us were lead to a 4 seat spot, but then redirected to a 2 seater in the corner, only to see another couple get seated in the large table in the front corner window area. That sucked. And then we were neglected. If you are only going to serve coffee in tiny coffee cups, please make sure you come around and refill more than twice in 45 minutes! This place is casual but is pretty stuffy.

When I went on a weekend, the place was PACKED. I don’t know if they take reservations, but if they do, call it in or be prepared to wait. And if it’s winter, you may have to wait outside because there’s not enough space inside for people to wait!
If you’re going by yourself — request to sit at the bar, usually there’s spots there for singles.
Food was good and they were good sized portions — I had to take some of it to go! Always check out the specials — they’re written on the board over the kitchen.

Great Brussel sprouts, great service, locally sourced dishes. 7 of us ate here 1÷6÷16, all enjoyed are variety of meals.

Bijou was directly across the street from our hotel. We were sat after a quick 10 minute wait on a Saturday morning. The buttermilk fried chicken cornmeal pancakes were amazing. Just the right amount of heat from the roasted red pepper jam, sweetness from the honey butter and crunchiness from the fried chicken. Fair warning, the tables are pretty close together. We engaged in conversation with a friendly local on 1 side, but the 2 locals on our other side kept snickering at us. Kind of uncomfortable but not Bijou’s fault!

My hubby ordered omelette said it was ok but this was not worth the money or time his little glass of OJ was $ 6 not happy! I ordered the chicken n pancakes the chicken was dry and I don’t like cornmeal pancakes so in their defence maybe they are good to people that like them? I will not return thanks anyway

We came here on a rainy Saturday morning for brunch. There was a slight wait but not too bad. We ordered:
* Hama hama oysters omelette ($ 16) — generous amount of oysters, bacon and onions. You can choose whether you want a baguette bread or mixed green salad. I chose a side of mixed green salad and a homemade marmalade muffin. It was good, but didn’t really stand out for me.
* Fried Hama hama oysters hash topped with a sunny side up egg — boyfriend was not impressed with this dish. He said it was good for the first couple of bites but he got tired of eating it really quickly. There was just too much of everything fried in one dish.
We thought maybe we had too much oysters all at one sitting, so we got the rest of the leftovers to go and attempted to eat it a day after. It was not good.
Overall:
food was decent
service was welcoming and friendly
ambiance was homey

I came here after looking at all these fabulous pictures of breakfast. All I have to say go and try it for yourself. I love the vibe and the food is unreal. Great way to to start your day. Keep on cooking this excellent food. Cheers

Bijou Café was the first restaurant I ate at while in Portland, and was by far one of my favorites during my entire trip. Once waking up and immediately craving eggs, I typed «Local and Organic» into Unilocal,and Bijou Café was one of the many options that came up. There was a nice selection of meat-​y items shown on the menu (a necessity for the friend with whom I traveled), so we decided to walk on down.
It was a great decision.
We were seating immediately, and started looking over the drink menu and drink specials black board. I was interested in the house-​made Iris Liqueur, so our waitress let me try a small amount. It was extremely strong, potent, and had a taste that changed from the time you put it in your mouth, to when you swallow. I decided to do a small amount of it in a flute of champagne. Yums.
Food wise, I went with the: «Cauliflower, Kale, Sauteeed potatoes, Harissa, Feta, Roasted Red Peppers and 2 Eggs» dish on the brunch menu. And man, oh man, what another great decision [apparently all my decisions are excellent.!]. Harissa is a chili pepper paste that added so much flavor and level of heat to the dish. I’d say everything was cooked perfectly for me. [Look at my picture… it’s a gorgeous display of deliciousness]. While ordering, the waitress told me that they soft-​scramble their eggs, and asked if I was alright with that. I’m really happy she let me know ahead of time that it was a thing — because I definitely need my scrambled eggs dry. They were very happy to accommodate.
What I do love about this place, is that they use fresh and local ingredients. This is always a huge selling point for me. This is what I especially search out when finding places to dine. My travel companion didn’t care as much about this aspect, but even agreed with me that Bijou was his favorite place we ate during our time in Oregon — and because of my great choice, allowed me to pick all future places we ate [High Five, Team Stephanie!].
As we were leaving, I saw that they have live Jazz bands on Friday evenings during dinner. This is a must for me on my future trips to Portland! Bijou in general is a must. The atmosphere was very friendly and open, the staff was excellent, and the food was top notch and totally down my health-​alley. Love yourself, and make it over to Bijou today!

GREAT place.
Bijou is in a *meh* part of town, but don’t let that fool you. This french bistro is everything you want in a good breakfast/​brunch place — causal vibes, good prices, and delicious food across the board.
My friend ordered the tuna sandwich and loved it and I ordered a breakfast scramble. I don’t normally obsess over scrambled eggs of all things, but these were DAMN good. Perfectly fluffy and soft… why can’t all eggs be this perfect?
Can’t wait to come back here!

Great spot for a classic breakfast prepared perfectly. Always a fun assortment of specials, and a muffin of the day.
They really know how to cook eggs properly here too. Sounds funny, but perfect scrambled eggs are hard to come by and they do them right.
A focus on implementing local Oregon products lends to unique and delicious menu items. We will definitely be back next time we visit Portland!

First time trying French style omelettes and I am sold. The farmers omelette included onions, bacon, cheese with the flavor of a rich french onion soup. The eggs were very light as they are quickly taken off the skillet. I also enjoyed the sides of the salad and baguette.

This was a fantastic little place in Portland across from the Embassy Suites Hotel downtown. I popped in for brunch everyday and everything I had was fantastic — the fresh tomato and goat cheese french omelet, the burgers with tomato jam, and all the cocktails were fresh and interesting.
I wish we had one of you in San Francisco!

This is one of my go to places for lunch with my fave co-​worker. What keeps me coming back? Actually the cornmeal pancakes. I am a sucker for pancakes and the Bijou’s version has a sweet but not dessert sweet flavor. The chicken that comes with it is just ok but a good companion to the cakes. Throw some honey butter and jam on it, that’s what makes it.
Another go to is the tuna sandwich. I like a good sandwich that doesn’t have that fishy I came from a can smell or taste to it. This delivers on that. The bread is thick enough to hold up to the juices from the tuna and even add a slight crunch to the texture.
This place is so close to work, it’s consistent, and they make me an Arnold palmer which is what brings me back. It can get crowded on the weekend, so you may have to wait, the staff is friendly, and it’s pretty open inside. So the bottom line is I’ll be back.

This place serves the most delicious breakfast food I’ve ever had!
I arrived with a large party (8 of us!) and the hostess rearranged tables to seat all of us together in under five minutes. Very impressive! I ordered the special, poached egg over asparagus, with wheat toast and a coffee. Everything was impeccable, even the re-​fillable coffee! I also tasted a friend’s carrot muffin, it was perfectly baked – crispy top with tender insides. Highly recommended!

Food was excellent!!! Fresh and flavourful. Had the French omelet: fines herbes. Eggs were made to perfection. Flavours were magical.

They did not have organic milk nor did they have gluten free options for the bread. The potatoes were breaded so I didn’t have those either. Had a basic lettuce salad with lemon juice and a hint of olive oil.

Service was not the most authentic. Server was rushed and a little out of it. Didn’t really see much service.
The vibe was non-​descriptive. There was a stale odour in the building which didn’t make the vibe as appetizing.

We came here just before noon so the wait wasn’t too bad, about 30 mins (it was an hour+ wait at Mother’s Bistro down the street!). I like how you just write your name down so you can pop in and see where you are on the list. But then again, it’s hard to find the host when you have a question.
Service was great. Our waitress at first mentioned they were out of vanilla for the french toast, then came back to offer it up since they got some in. Ambiance is pretty casual and open. It’s not a huge space, so don’t get mad at a little elbow bumping. But do get mad at a butt tapping your drink… yeah that happened.
I got the bacon wrapped eggs with chimchurri sauce and biscuit special. That was gooooood, but a little hard to eat. The bacon wasn’t too crispy (and i love burnt bacon) and I specifically asked for well-​done eggs. Everything tasted awesome, don’t get me wrong. It was just plated so pretty that I had to destroy it to get a little bite of everything.
Hubs got the brioche French Toast. And I would highly suggest getting the Brioche French Toast because THAT is how French toast is supposed to taste. SO GOOD. Creamy and perfect inside, a little texture on the edge. With the Marionberry sauce. Heaven.
There was some hype about their biscuits, which is partly why I got the special. It’s pretty good — nice and dense, flaky and tasty, unlike some places where their biscuits taste like balls of flour. I wouldn’t write a sonnet about it, but they tasted great with my meal.
So why the 4 and not 5? I think I had high hopes for more of a «French» menu (whatever that means). The dishes they offered seemed like typical American breakfast items to me.
Another big perk? It shares a wall with Stumptown so you can get your caffeine on while waiting for a table. I’d love to come back and explore more of the menu.
