Bottle & Bottega

Got a great group of friends together and had a blast! There was music playing and painting was so much fun! It was amazing to see it come together. It’s neat because you can bring your own snacks and buy wine there. The location is great and I would definitely go back!

Wohoo! As good as it gets!
I have attended a class at their location and have also hosted two events at my home. Bottle & Bottega knows how to run a successful art party and here’s why:
1. Approach: They have do some very basic pencil work on your canvas before they begin. I know some people may not like this, but I found it helps me center myself on the canvas and wrap my head around what I am going to be doing for the next two hours.
2. Speed: They keep it moving. I never really feel rushed and I often times will just set down my paintbrush after completing a task and they’ll start moving on to the next one. I appreciate this after going to another paint studio in the area and feeling as though I was literally watching paint dry it moved so slowly.
3. Bartender: They will fill up your drink for you, the bartender also wanders around to help, tidies up, gives you more paint, offers kind suggestions, and keep you tab running the whole time.
4. Instructors: (notice the placement after the bartenders) They are awesome. Very friendly and patient. They also seem to be very aware of the class dynamic and this helps immensely.
I would highly recommend Bottle and Bottega.
Note: Fun for all ages. I am writing this review after going back to B&B after a not-​so-​good experience at another place. I never truly appreciated the skill that it took to conduct a wine and paint class well. B&B makes it look easy.

I love this place! Joni is amazing, Amelia is wonderful and it’s so much fun!
I first heard of this through a friend and decided it was the perfect place to hold my bachelorette party. We’d get to learn how to paint an awesome piece of art, they provide everything including the canvas, paint, brushes, and an apron, and we have the option of enjoying wine and/​or beer while doing so! For my party we had the option to either paint a male model in the nude or choose a painting from a selection given to me by Joni herself. While painting a male model in the nude sounded very bachelorette-​esque, I opted for the painting instead. Painting arms and legs sounded difficult after all and besides, who wants some random dude on their walls?! :) I chose the painting of «3 Little Words» for our piece and they all turned out great. Who knew all of us ladies were such great painters!
Joni couldn’t be there in person for my bachelorette party, but she was very attentive with my many emails of questions back and forth to her. She provided much information including pricing, food and drink details, as well as painting specific questions too. I couldn’t have had such a successful party with the help of her and Amelia, her Assistant Studio Manager.
Since my bachelorette party, and my wedding, I’ve been watching the Bottle and Bottega calendar to see when the Portland Diptych piece would be on the calendar (a two-​canvas painting of Portland’s city-​scape). My husband and I have always wanted a picture of Portland on our living room wall and what a better one to have than one we painted ourselves! I even emailed Joni to ask if that was in fact the piece I was thinking of and she said yes. That class took place on Friday 7÷25÷14, I registered us for it, we attended and now we have a spectacular Portland picture that’s a one-​of-​a-​kind piece. The cool thing about this piece was that we each got to paint one half of it. The picture itself was spread amongst 2 canvasses — I painted one side and he painted the other. The instructor Amelia was AWESOME at keeping track of each side separately and in the end, both of our individual paintings tied together. It was very cool.
Would I go back? Yes. Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes.
The location is easy to find, as is parking, and is located near several good restaurants in Portland. They provide nearly everything and all that’s left up to you is food, drink, and a kick-​ass painting!

I think this may be one of the best ideas for a business since…(insert something overly cool here).
No joke, us girls had soooo much fun! We have a «Wives Club», and our hostess choose this as our outing.
Easy! Go to their website and purchase your date and time and said painting chosen for that slot, and then show up! We brought a few appetizers as they do not provide food, but they do provide wine and beer! And lots of it! And a great selection! Yay!
The instructor goes over your little place setting of paints, brushes, pencils etc. then you get to paintin’!! I literally left there thinking I really know how to paint. :D I’m gooood! Wow! It’s cool cuz you choose whatever colors you want, or however you want to shadow, highlight etc so it really is your imagination flowing. What a way to relax, chat, drink and create! Love!
I’m on it, and scheduling a family painting with just me and my daughter, and also one with just my husband for a date night. This place is all over 21, since they serve alcohol, but on select dates they have the family days. (ie mother daughter date)
It’s a good location right smack downtown, but has close parking lots and street parking all over. So no miles of hiking to your destination.
All in all this is genius, different, and so much fun!

Almost a year later I tried Bottle & Bottega again and had the best time! This was definitely a five star experience.
This class was at their studio, which was a great space. High ceilings, lots of natural light, and since the class was not full there was plenty of space for everyone. I found this to be less intrusive and more organized than classes that are held in restaurants or bars.
The instructor was incredibly friendly and was skilled at making small talk, had a great personality, and moved the group along in a timely manner without making anyone feel rushed. She was quick to get people more paint and was helpful without being intrusive. She was very responsive to group needs and wanted to make sure everyone was happy and comfortable.
My friend that I brought has never been to a painting class while I have gone to a about ten so we have different levels of experience, but we both still found the class fun and a good kind of challenging. Some of the ladies in our class had quite a bit of art experience and they seemed to enjoy the class as well, so I think that a wide range of skill levels would have fun.
There was no emphasis on sales like I had experienced the last time. The atmosphere was relaxed, fun, and professional. I greatly loved my experience and would highly recommend it.

Just 2 weeks before my birthday I realized I had no plans and wanted to do a painting class. I looked up all of the local spots and everyones event calendar was filled up for my birthday weekend. I read on Bottle & Bottega’s website that they have a very modest minimum of 5 people for private parties and had relationships with great local places to have the event at so I contacted them by email, hoping they could throw something together last minute for me. Joni responded and walked me through everything, she even met up with me so I could pick my favorite picture to paint. Day of the event went smoothly and everyone had an excellent time. AND all of our paintings looked great! I look forward to booking again some day and will definitely be recommending to friends.

Let me start by saying, I didn’t really want to do this. The last time I painted was kindergarten, and I don’t remember it being great. But my sister had been before and she wanted to take me for my birthday, and swore up and down it was a blast. So, I relented.
Our venue was 23 Hoyt in downtown Portland, nice atmosphere. We were a dot late but it wasn’t a big deal, they had seats ready for us. Got our aprons and listened about the piece we were going to paint. They came around and took our food and drink orders for us! It was so incredibly step by step, I really don’t think anyone could mess it up. There were times when I felt like I wasn’t really on task, like when we were making leaves, mine just looked like splotches. But then they have you stand up and look at it from afar, and it really brings it together.
Class was 2.5 hours and the time completely flew by. You drink, you paint, you chat, you laugh. You look at others’ paintings. You make mistakes and they show you how to fix it. I really had an awesome time and I encourage everyone to give it a try! I really hope to see this business thrive!

I have had 2 private parties with Bottle and Bottega to date and couldn’t be happier with the service. The instruction is personal but helps keep you on pace so you can finish in time. All the needed materials are provided and no experience is necessary. I will definitely be using them again in the future.

You guys, this idea is spectacular, and whether you’re creative or not, magic happens when you get that paint brush in hand.
I would definitely consider myself more scientific minded, and not so much the «typical creative» type, but with Bottle & Bottega, their artists help, and of course some wine, I was able to make several beautiful pieces that I was proud to call mine! There is no pressure, which is nice, and my husband also enjoyed painting. We had a lot of good laughs about how terrible we were at mixing paints.
If you’re looking for a good date night, hit this place up. You won’t regret it.
And before I go, I just wanted to touch on a subject that was brought up by a previous commenter: There was a previous comment about how the «vibe» didn’t gel with Portland, and I COMPLETELY disagree. I am a native Oregonian, and I know a lot about the way that we interact with each other and the love we have for our state. Something that us Oregonians are proud of is our statewide acceptance, dedication, and love we have for our local businesses. Whether it is a franchise or family owned, business owners always work their tails off to make the best and to achieve success, and after talking with the owner (Joni), I feel confident that she has a complete understanding of what us Oregonians believe and feel.
Way to go Bottle & Bottega!

Seriously, this place is awesome! You either go to a fun pub/​nice restaurant and paint with a cool group of people, or you can arrange a private party. First of all, it’s just really fun (and 100% mellow and low pressure). I’m not an artist type at all, and I had such a good time that I’ve come back more than 10 times! Really! Fun people who attend, a wonderful/​sweet/​helpful artist to guide you through, and the owner, Joni, is a total rock star — you will love her (and her super cool hubby who comes sometimes)! She truly «gets» customer service! Second, you will be exquisitely shocked at how awesome your painting turns out! And I’m speaking as a talentless dude who previously struggled with stick figures. Third, you’ll use a part of yourself you don’t use everyday, it will surprise you how satisfying that is! And, fourth, it’s such an outside-​the-​box, creative, memorable, unusual, and potentially bonding activity to arrange with friends, family, your company, or for a particular special occasion. I know I sound like I work for them, but, no joke, I’m just a ridiculously huge fan. I can’t overstate how happy I am that I found something like this in Portland!

If you are looking for a different date night idea, this is the way to go! A unique experience, a fun and relaxed atmosphere, and you get to keep your paintings you create as a keepsake. You can easily remain engaged and even if art isn’t your thing, you still create a very close representation to the original piece with the artist’s help and guidance. Who wouldn’t like drinking wine, meeting new people, and not doing dinner and a movie for date night for the millionth time? A+ definitely give it a go!

Let me tell you, I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, or at least I didn’t think I did. I’d never experienced any type of artistic expression until I took one of the Bottle & Bottega classes, and I fell in love immediately. I’ve been back 3 times with first-​timers so I could share this great experience with others. They are incredibly patient and encouraging with those like myself, and really help you bring out your inner-​artist. Whether you have as little experience as myself, or you have been creative your entire life (as my mother has, and she had a great time when I brought her to one of these classes), you will have a lovely time. Can’t say enough good things about Bottle & Bottega!

Always a amazing and unique experience. The people are friendly and the artist really know what they are doing. If your looking for something different to do pretty much any day of the week I’d check out Bottle & Bottega. Keep up the good work!!!
